Big heavy car + little low-end torque + extremely tall gears + some fairly short on-ramps = dangerously slow.
That looks pretty cool. As a not-particularly-fond-of-Japanese-imports I do really like MR2s and Supras from that era.
Mk3 Supras are better looking than Mk4 Supras. And AW11s are better looking than SW20s (although they still can look nice)
Guess I'm just an 80s whore
lol the car with the least amount of power I currently own is my 2.5RS and even that's around 230 HP. The Cj-5 is 425-450ish my truck is probably 550-600. The last car I had that was under 220HP was an '84 ford LTD and that was when I was 16 (12 years ago)
I agree but not because I'm an 80's whore. I just hate the 90's blobtastic styling. Whoever designed the Taurus can go fuck themselves for ruining the entire auto industry for over a decade.
People who say 90s cars look the best are really great because it lets me know I can immediately put their opinions in my mental garbage can
mid 80s was the peak of automotive design and some of that goodness carried over but off the top of my head I can only think of a few cars that entered the market in the 90s that look even vaguely good, and most of those look better with their post 2000s facelift
Nah, mid 00’s. The designs were becoming modern, and that was the last time there was proper diversity in drivetrains. You could still get affordable hot hatches with naturally aspirated 4 bangers, or with turbocharged inline 5s or even V6s or VR6s. Alfa Romeo were still making reasonably affordable V6 models like the 159. BMW were still using naturally aspirated engines. But you also had eg the Ford Falcon range where you could have a n/a inline 6, turbocharged inline 6 or n/a V8. Not that there’s anything wrong with them, but almost every slightly sporty car has a turbocharged inline 4 these days.
Also cars weren’t too powerful in the mid 00’s. But they weren’t 70’s/80’s weak either. They were just right.
I don’t understand. I made a whole post about cars from the mid 00’s, but then you reply with a picture of a car that was made until 1995?
whoops, I apologize, I somehow misread that. Carry on.

Local man has objectively incorrect opinion yet documented. Scientists baffled, public outraged, international leaders demand action.
Wooden panels on cars is the most disgusting thing. Thank god its a phenomenon contained mostly just in America.
Maybe I'm just a simple man with a taste for simple rides but that Mazda looks pretty good tbh.
Speaking of 80s cars if I had to get one for a project ride I would try to get an 1st gen 4runner. Their just good old trucks with a decent looking body and ruggedness of a tank.

Almost had the opportunity to buy an 87 Supra Turbo. Guy wanted $3500 but when I tried to reach out for better pics / more info I never got a response.
It's all souless nonsense to me.
You don't need a soul to run a halfway decent 4x4
Yeah, I'm talking strictly styling/design.
1st gen MR2s are best gen because spaceship
Saab 9-5 and Saab 9-3 were the best looking 90s cars. though to be fair they're like, LATE 90s

Those are pretty good looking. Like I said I'm pretty simple in my automobile taste.
Lived out in the woods for most of my life. County almost never repairs the gravel road and it's rough for a truck as is. I feel bad for anyone coming through in a town car. Weather can make the river rise, flood the roads, or cause a number of blockages. That's why everyone in our neck of the woods follows the same template in regards to rides, 1 or 2 trucks / SUVs (preferably 4WD/AWD) and a town car if you want.
Forgive me if I sound like an uneducated hick but one thing I've learned is that looks don't mean shit if it can't get you home when you need it.
Your facts are wrong. The AU is the best, period.
IMHO the Toyota FJ's had some of the coolest 4x4 stylings. The FJ60 is probably my favorite vehicle design ever.

Just wish they weren't so fucking expensive now. Four years ago you could pick one up in decent shape for four grand. Now good luck finding one under ten.

AU. Pulling chicks and everything else, since 1998
Aight, sup y'all. I've lurked the thread a handful of times, but never jumped in because the most "car-guy" I am is I've been watching RCR and I just learned what JDM stands for. But I work with a couple of car guys at my job, so I hear about it, and talk about what I can. I got my own things to put into this thread though.
My father for as long as I've been alive had this blue, '81 C10 pickup that was just his truck; prized possession. He's since passed away, and my mom was kind of eager to get rid of it, but I convinced her to let me hold onto it to fix it up.

Along with it I was left with... Absolutely no idea what's wrong with it. So I got a buddy from work who's actually excited to work on it with me, and a plan to replace the fuel (it hasn't been driven in 2.5 years), change the oil, change the fuel filter, and work from there (work schedule is absolute hell, but whatever). I did look up the VIN and find out that it came with a L6 engine, but it was swapped out for a 350 V8 at some point in its life. I can't find the serial number for the life of me, but the '81 C10 did come with a 350 V8, so I suppose I could just order parts based off of that and it'd be fine. If I make any progress, I'll try to put it up here. Body has plenty of rot and interior is in really bad shape, but for now, I just want it to pass inspection and be drive-able.
On a less exciting/meaningful note, after I get this thing running, I'm planning on selling my Accent and buying a Miata. The same buddy I mentioned taught me how to drive manual in his, and I immediately fell in love with driving it. Never had more fun than driving that thing. I just hope I can fit with the top up.
Never was much of a Chevy fan but I always did like the old Silverados, trucks, and Tahoes. That's a good looking truck you got there and I hope you fix it up.
Exhaust bolt decided it didn't want to be on my car anymore when I was en-route to go on a cruise with Magnus Walker, had to make a pit-stop to grab a new nut and bolt on the way. Ended up being 5 minutes late and it was an unplanned route. Fucking kill me.
I'll be camping out my local togue tonight and hopefully come across somebody joyriding their race car, like the Formula D guys 6 years ago.
... Is that a road legal setup?
Yeah he was a huge Chevy guy. I've only seen him drive GM's. Dunno why, probably American pride. But at least I always hear how great their motors are, especially from back then.
the chevy v8s are definitely rugged reliable motors, a lot of the straight sixes are weak piles of shit. but there's been stories of small block chevs reaching a million miles still on the original head gaskets and stuff.
