I know it’s hard to convey humour over the Internet, but I was making a joke mate. I’m actually going to be buying a Giulietta Veloce myself this year.
Hey man been a while indeed, shame I didn't get to talk to you more. Was very busy that trackday! Your car is looking great! Also I listed to much to you guys,, look what you made me buy https://i.imgur.com/N1A8TZ0.jpg in all honestly tho this was 4 months in progress. it only just arrived. Also with other stuff -5.3 truck computer and loom -ls1 intake + fuel rails+ injector + throttlebody -ls1 waterpump, alternator and brackets https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/223218/650708c0-e51e-43fd-aa7a-1918a0261044/image.png My plan right now is to take it apart to a short block (aint gonna mess with the rotating assembly) Clean the heads, 862's . Or swap them vor 243 or 799 heads if I can find them in my part of the world Optionally flow the heads Cam it, new rocker arms, springs and pens New long tubes exhaust fitting for my chassis racing harmonic damper + smaller alternator high volume oil pump ls2 timing chain and sprocket aluminium oil pan for clearance and weight ls1 intake, perhaps a bigger throttlebody. also convert to manual throttlebody breatherlines to all 4 points get it tuned That's about it. So performance wise cam+heads+exhaust+intake. I'm HOPING to get 380-400hp at the crank. Not sure if thats realistic. Cam wise probably gonna go for a chevy performance one like this: https://i.imgur.com/00HnDLy.png Cheap, seems do to really well. Any LS experts let me know if I'm forgetting anything. Summit is really cheap if your in the US. However I get butfucked. If I order a 100 dollar part. The grand total including shipping and taxes will be 200 euro (about 230usd). Probably gonna look for someone in the US I can ship this too, and then have that person ship it to mee. Any volunteers?
It's a 2.0 twinspark, the velour interior is kinda cool i guess haha, i'm not really a big fan of leather myself so. I'm sadly having two issues with it, which isn't bad for 700 euro. The shifter is a bit stiff, especially when going in and out of 4th, and I'm getting a clunking from the front left, but I haven't had a proper chance to check out either.
Great engine. Sounds best at high revs. Stiff shifter is usually the bushings on a 156 - there's a guide on Alfa Workshop to fix it - really useful website generally. The clunking from the front, if it sounds like it's coming from somewhere behind the dashboard, is most often an upper control arm. If you're handy with tools you can probably sort both those things out by yourself and save some cash.
yeah I already had a go at the shifter linkage, but I couldnt get the bolt out properly so I just put it back together because I was in a bit of a rush. the clunking you're probably right about, it sounds a bit like a strut bearing at times, and it comes out when you put the weight on the left. I just haven't had a chance to put it on a lift and check it out. im like halfway decent with tools idk, been working as a mechanic for 2 years now and generally fucked with car/engine stuff my entire life.
Most of the GM Performance stuff should be available from a Chevrolet dealer, they should really be able to order cams, lifters, ect. Maybe it would be cheaper if you can find a dealer in the US or Europe which will ship internationally, there's a lot of dealers which run websites like this and sell parts online with heavy discounts below list price. Jegs and Summit are great resources but they don't always have the best prices out there. https://www.gmpartsonline.net/oem-parts/gm-camshaft-12638427 If I recall though, the LS9 cam while being a good, cheap, reliable, stock cam is also meant for a supercharger and most aftermarket cams generally outperform it in even it's intended application. Since it's more of a road race car and you plan to beat the living crap out of it, I would be looking for a cam with properly sized springs designed to match the cam and your intended usage. Stronger springs aren't always better. Increased valvetrain wear and reliability is something you'll want to consider when buying valvetrain components. Some companies in the past have even been known to sell trash that will break, I think there's a set of Comp springs that are widely known to break and be junk even though they're far more expensive than cheaper, chinese alternatives. The LS1 intake is also among the worse intakes available for the platform while that stock truck intake is supposed to be among the better performing intakes. That will be limiting you a bit however hood clearance/size constraints would be much more important than like 5-10hp. Your heads will dictate your intake though, I would probably stick with what you have and make the best of it until you need/want more. Be very weary of the oiling system though, most people unload the catalog on an engine and often end up hurting it with incompatible parts. Some of the high volume stuff is capable of emptying lower capacity pans, starving it completely of oil and over-oiling some things. I would be more concerned with the upgraded pan, pickup and dampener than a high volume pump, an accusump is also another option. I think Mellings generally recommends their high pressure pumps unless you're building an engine with different tolerances, pumping oil all over to stuff like turbos and coolers, ect. I'm not an expert, I just follow way too many LS related videos and groups then absorb information from people who probably know what they're talking about. I don't get to see enough people use LS engines for anything other than drifting and drag racing which the former always ruins engines pretty quick. So I'm really excited to see how "budget" LS setups can carry over into a proper track car.
How do you guys clean up slight knicks and scratches?
embrace them, they're battle scars
I rub my own feces in the scratches before fucking my sister.
polish it out, if its through to the metal then you need to find a matching paint and colour it in.
anyone used akebono pads? thoughts?
Thanks for the detailed writeup. However I live in The Netherlands, we don't even have any Chevy dealers here. Intake wise I need the car intake for clearance as you already knew. Heads is a difficult subject...the cheapest business in my country for porting my 862 heads charges about 2k...So I'm better off getting better stock heads from ebay or buying performance heads for 1500-2000. (Although thats way out of budget) . So yeah I'm kinda unsure about what route to take, like do I take apart the short-block or just keep that intact etc And yes I really couldn't find any serious track cars using budget LS setups. So I'm also excited to see what that does.
https://i.imgur.com/v6GoQ3J.jpg put my summer wheels on it, not sure if I'm a fan or not but atleast it's not steelies I guess.
Fresh OC from San Francisco https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/239831/03275bd2-a2f0-418f-9ef8-657aa35d4c51/IMG_4715.JPG this is why you keep absolutely nothing in your car in this city
got + installed new rear sway bar on my mazda fark even on the softer setting it's still a massive fucken difference wood recommend
So... Mercedes themselves gave up on my car So another shop is gonna change the gearbox and see if that helps...
Dad just got offered a 2003 Volvo V70, 2.4D5 AWD. Of course he bought it, he felt the need for a more economic diesel car. Spent a few hours fixing the instrument cluster right now, quite a few speakers are blown, but the stock sub seemed to work. The interior is kind-of busted, the seats aren't broken, but they are really dirty and some trim is lost or broken. Ripped the headlight wiring, as someone had put in chinese Xenon high-beams. The engine is a bit oily, but it might be leaking from the oil cap itself. There was some mention of a bigger turbo on it, but there might be a leak somewhere, as it didn't seemingly go to boost much. It is going to be a fun project for a while now.
Time to hang myself https://i.imgur.com/sLG1Q8W.jpg https://i.imgur.com/tcCHI49.jpg
That thing looks like it was left outside without the heads on.
what the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
ive saved worse. get in there with a bearing scraper and then hone the shit out of it. from there just a standard rebuild
how's the bottom end? Pistons can be replaced, and bores can be reamed, but the bottom end is a bigger deal
Contacted the seller, will be trading it for an LS1 the meme has gone full circle
I mean bore it with the hone and throw some chinese pistons in it do yall not get free shipping from china on ebay or something? or is it some kind of customs fuckery
I balled honed this and it went fine lol. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/222894/751a6a6c-15a1-4258-a851-5d3f57eaa5f4/image.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/222894/a8af09c3-4efb-48ac-8b08-e3c87e98e8b9/image.png
Sounds like the perfect excuse to bore it out to me. No replacement for displacement

just send that LS and spin it over with a powerbar, let the rings clear that cylinder ;)
you guys are crazy, why wouldn't I trade it for a LS1
So when I was first looking at Abarth's my Dad was skeptical about it and was like it's your money, if this is what you want, I'm not going to tell you shouldn't buy it. Fast forward to a little over a year later and two trips to the Texas Twisted Sisters, he was looking at getting one himself to cut down on gas/tire usage on his van. While looking, someone let us know about one that was owned by this guy that ran a performance shop. If everything pans out, I should be getting this bad boy come next Friday... https://imgur.com/FkONTkl https://imgur.com/PVZtgeb
