I got to drive in a relative's Saab 9-3 convertible and I kinda fell in love right from the start. Anyone have experience with it?
In norway that's very illegal
I decided to say "fuck it" and try to sell my Accent and get a Miata before the truck. So, I go to clean up the interior of the car, I go to open to hood to get in those creases aaand my hood latch cable broke.
same here. but compared to some of the other cars driving around town this is pretty mild lol
Ghetto ass environment? check. First time fucking with spray-gun paint/2-part paints? check. All in all i actually managed to get no drips/runs and somehow had no bugs land in it.. first time i've ever painted something outside in the summer that hasnt gotten a bug stuck in it https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107090/a829e165-5bc2-499e-b56d-929d7affe342/IMG_1500.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107090/55deee93-19be-498a-9b58-f750ef8c3984/IMG_1510.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107090/46c7e3b3-cacf-4fcc-8114-89e0590eaeea/IMG_1520.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107090/892c9a67-ef4b-4331-91fe-4e4e244bb6a8/IMG_1526.jpg

Whatever happened to clutch2? Haven't seen him post in months
2nd gen 9-3s can be very, very hit or miss. You could get lucky or you could get one that will be the biggest headache of your life. That can be said for most Saabs anyway but from my experience, and from my fathers (he used to run a Saab specialist workshop), 2nd gen 9-3s are the worst in terms of reliability. They drive nice as hell but they can be a fucken headache.
My relative's owned it for a fairly long time now and it seems to be in good nick, though ofc I'll need to confirm everything, thanks.
Gonna go pick up an '06 Civic LX 4 door manual this week for like $4500 to use to go back and fourth to work. I don't want to mod my F150 because it's too nice, but I have just the perfect amount of "don't give a fuck" about it to swap out the R18 in it for the K20 out of an Accura my girlfriend's dad has sitting in his shed. I feel the mod gods calling my name again.
So I got bored and wanted to see if I could swap all the internals from my old(new) OBD1 D15B7 SOHC Civic distributor into my OEM distributor off my B18B1 Integra. Turns out everything seems to be exactly the same but the plugs, I might have to replace a couple pins since I cracked one taking it to a bench grinder since OBD2 distributors have like a 1mm narrower pin which is literally the same pin but tapered down. I thought the reason I've been getting slight hesitations at low RPMs and a "rougher" feel while accelerating was because my rotor screw backed off and it wiped out the dust cover along with some corrosion on the ICM/coil terminals. While that didn't help, I'm pretty sure I found the actual problem and it's not a TPS. First I took apart the donor, they're a little bit of a pain but not anything special or complicated really. RIP $186 I spent for a motor I swapped 4k miles later. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/144519/6f9b9547-3c5d-401b-a27a-40e064d6aa12/20180712_015233.jpg Okay lets look into my Integra distributor, man this looks cooked... https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/144519/7e8d11f0-7dda-45c8-8274-68acd31783a4/20180712_015237.jpg Oh, well this might be the problem! https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/144519/fec376c4-f9af-44d0-9ed5-edcff559d775/20180712_015945.jpg Okay well lets just drop this whole assembly out. Neat, the shaft and internals are exactly the same. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/144519/c79ab34e-13e4-4458-becb-c80034ed8412/20180712_020538.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/144519/2b2cb256-8172-4450-9d7d-d3ccb4a654a5/20180712_020529.jpg Oh, okay so literally every fucking wire in this thing has lost it's insulation, the seal is leaking and it's filled with wire insulation simply after touching it. The shaft bearing is also on it's way out on top of all this. Gonna pick up a shaft seal tomorrow and try putting it together, the pin I cracked is the tach output wire so that will be 100% obvious if I need to replace the pin. Worst comes worst I guess I toss a dizzy at it but this might be why my fuel mileage has also been 3/4 to 1/2 of what it used to be. I'd rather do this than bench calibrate a TPS still and maybe I'll only be into this a $6 seal. I should have really cleaned the workbench before starting but I never expected a slight inspection and tossing it back on where I marked it to lead to this so quick.
like I said, some are okay, some are complete nightmares
If it's the K20 out of the base RSX, take that head and throw it directly into the trash. It says "i-VTEC" but what it really means is VTEC-E and disables intake valves. I've raced a few with my entirely stock Integra and always beat them although not by a lot. It's depressing a 2008 RSX Base is probably slower than a 1992 Integra with the B18A1 that debut in 1988. K series stuff goes a long ways and if you're inclined to go for entirely bolt on mods the supercharger kits are amazingly reliable. I don't think they get the issues with belts the old D/B engines had with the JRSC's either. I know a guy local to me who made aftercoolers for the supercharger kits and could make over 400whp on a dynapack with e85 without even touching the block. He used to do a ton of e-tuning also but it seems he doesn't anymore.
Finally found the source (or lackthereof) of the air in my powersteering lines and suppressed the angry ass demons inside it. Turns out when I tightened the ever living hell out of the out hose on the reservoir to stop the leak there it also happened to be where the air was getting pulled in. While theoretically that should have stopped it entirely, there was so much air still in the line that it was continuing to act as if it was having air pulled in (tank pressure needing to be released daily). Bled the ever living fuck out of it yesterday as well as drowned the thing in fluid and so far it seems to have completely fixed it.
Well, the guy he got it from had gotten that K20 rebuilt, but the shop fucked up and didn't secure a rod cap correctly, so it's got to be reworked anyways. Since it's already torn down, I'm gonna go ahead and throw in upgraded internals, an upgraded top end, and get it ready for boost, although I'll most likely run it NA for a while. I just can't stand how that R18 is just gutless after 2nd gear.
I miss Clutch.
Good job LMC, these panels totally look the same to me! https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107090/a4b33a15-42d8-488b-a9d0-d3dc976ea4ee/IMG_1527.jpg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRIqRicttv4 So this popped up in my suggested videos today....
Just to emphasize how good a deal that is, see below: https://puu.sh/AVlvi/97fb63890e.png It barely matters that it's an 04 with mileage that low. You can look up the differences between the original and the later models, it's not a lot. Buy that car!
god I wish he had known about the alleged manslaughter.
At the moment I'm not sure I can afford the insurance I'm going to keep going with it, but we'll see.
The R18 ain't great but at least it's reliable I guess. It's got some nifty tech in it although it still doesn't remotely beat the fuel economy from 10-15 years prior. They'll peg the throttle wide open and use cam timing and it's vtec to eliminate vacuum during low load cruising. It would have been much better suited as the lowest base model engine and high performance engine for a Fit. Honda cranks are nitride coated, if you can feel damage on the crank you might as well throw it in the trash. I'm pretty sure K series engines are the same way.
Man, am I disappointed or what. I've been seeing an NA Miata around town lately, and I've been wondering who drives it. Well, today I saw it on the road, coming towards me in traffic. I thought to myself, this is my chance. So, as they draw nearer, I pop my MR2's headlights and throw up a peace sign as they pass aaaaaand... It was an old lady. The car was in really great shape though.
What’s wrong with old ladies having interesting cars?
idk i guess maybe it'd be neat for it to be someone willing to take some twisties with me or something
what gives you the idea that shes not willing
