The apparent disconnect between management and users

I’m sure glad that there are even more useless threads for me to never click on in GGD.
You know I was finally adjusting to how things were. I subscribed to all the threads I actually cared about. And went straight to them whenever someone posted in them. I was completely able to ignore the mess of the subforms. If threads are going to lock in a day or two due to an insanely low thread limit what's the point of the subscription feature.
I was really adjusting to the feedback loop of checking notifications for ratings, replies, and new posts in subscribed threads. Woke up this morning to literally 70 notification items in a single dropdown list. Worst change I've seen so far.
By design according to garry. Rating notifications are no longer supposed to show at all.
Coins are worthless now, people are throwing them in barrels as tinder for fire
i switched to this forum like as soon as possible so that i could get used to the feel quicker. i don't regret it, because i really do enjoy this forum layout, structure, etc, but i do miss being able to do the kinds of things that made this forum a top-notch forum compared to others, such as being able to anonymously report people, private messaging that isn't in a public thread as well, ignoring users, having a comprehensive settings panel, advanced quote features, fp_read, the ticker, and so on. it's what made Facepunch my daily forum to visit, explore, and all around enjoy being a member of for almost a decade now.
but even now, despite how much i like facepunch as a forum and a community, i find myself coming here less often than i used to - because of the disconnect between "management" and users. it just doesn't feel like 100% of the mod team is particularly motivated by or invested in the forums being a pleasant place to have discussions and responsible shitposts when applicable. complaints don't feel like they're being received, taken seriously, or looked into. people don't feel listened to or valued as members of the community - it doesn't feel very welcoming and inclusive, which may explain the drop of users lol
it's so weird that one of the few good changes this forum had, the ratings and follow notifications, wound up being undone.
I'm actually thrilled, I wasn't expecting coins to happen. I've been trying for months and months to get my avatar size to Oldpunch gold member size so I can finally get my old .gif back.
I'm trying to do the same thing but it's very slow now.
Also yeah, coins get a notification but ratings don't. What a fucking awful change. How else am I supposed to know when I'm being retarded in SH?

I didn't post the exact list, a lot of the stuff was behind the scenes stuff for GDPR / essential moderation tools. These have been done, and the rest continue to be sorted. Progress is being made, just slower than everyone would like.
I've been scheming to post diamond related news, but all I had to do was talk shit about Garry, what a world.

If you can, it'd be great if you let him know how much we would like the new notifications reverted. It's breaking our "workflows" in a pretty disruptive way.
Ah all right, I completely failed to consider the backend stuff. Apologies if I seemed heated, it's just that I really love this place and want to see it succeed.
Man, Trekintosh must be swimming in diamonds now.
Also this change is silly. Especially the low post count lock.
Honestly if there has to be a post count lock, it should be about Oldpunch levels before the move.
I can kinda understand why there'd still need to be an upper limit to thread size. Depending on how the database is set up a shitload of posts in a single thread can still take a considerable amount of time to retrieve (probably talking a few hundred thousand for most cheaper cloud hosted databases based on my experiences).
But 1k? That's absurdly low. This forum is Reddit and it never will be Reddit. Long lived discussions are a staple of forums and attempting to undo that and turn us into a link aggregator like Reddit is a fruitless endeavour. Shit a lot of us here stick around because Reddit is a cancer that has spread through so many other community sites now. I've never liked that structure and I honestly cannot see the appeal of such an unwieldy mess of reply chains.
Just checked two threads that i subscribed to. One was locked with 2070 posts while the other is still alive with almost 1900 posts.
If this is correct, then 2000 max count is really, really low compared to Oldpunch's 5000. So low that it makes no sense even making megathreads for popular games if it's gonna be locked that quick.
From what I’ve gathered, the limit now is now a measly 1000 posts.
Anyone got that “TyrannicalRussianTypeStyleBullshit” emote from Oldpunch? Cause that seems perfect for this.
this is gonna end up like /vg/ on 4chan where the Katawa Shoujo general threads have almost reached #3500
New, shitty features keep getting added on the reg and the incredibly basic shit like word wrap still doesn't work.
You know what I haven't seen in the polidicks/SH subforums in over 3 months? A new user. Not a single fucking one, at all.
During the subforum controversy I said the Mario subforum made it almost seem like an April Fools joke, this almost makes it seem like they're intentionally hurting the forums.
This wouldn't be so bad if changes were just properly announced. Make an announcement demonstrating what's going to change before rolling it out, get feedback, and plan accordingly. Rather than just make changes at random without even telling people what they are.
But look how active it is

Lets not forget the incredibly popular fashion subforum. I actually struggle to keep up with it!

To be fair, new users have to build up a toxicity resistance level to avoid being pushed away by the "YOUR OPINION IS WRONG, HERE HAVE SOME DUMB/SNOWFLAKE/BABY BOTTLE RATINGS!"
You're right though, I think SH has about 20 or so posters, and polidicks has around 9-15 active posters.
SH was actually my main source of news on oldpunch, I just don't feel like reading them through newpunch when I can't see ratings on the threads and the post number being to right of post creation date. Yeah, it's extremely lazy, but I preferred scanning for the bigger/more popular articles and reading through those, and then afterwards choosing if I want to find new/smaller articles to read.
I would like to maintain the opinion that negative ratings on the forum encourage immense toxicity in a community that has became progressively more serious and toxic in general. The entire forum at the moment is either coincidentally or intentionally setup to gradually choke the community out instead of making it grow.
New users with a more lighthearted mentality are under massive threat to either get banned for random shit or get aggressively retaliated against by the community itself for one reason or another.
The current forum structure has no mechanisms in place to prevent bandwagoning or to mention an opinion that does not flawlessly coincide with the opinion of the majority. It is also not really possible to post half assed goofy bullsiht for comedic effect without suffering immediate consequences.
It's also frequently not possible to complain about these things freely either by being told by 50 people that you are wrong with is ironic because it confirms the criticisms being legitimate in the first place.
Basically there are way too many suppression mechanisms and virtually no protection/encouragement mechanisms.
In reddit if you make a shitty thread/post it is at the very least possible to remove the entire thing from existence, on facepunch if someone quotes you everyone frequently keeps shitting on you even after you blatantly apologized.
I haven't seen a shitposting ban in ages. As long as you shitpost responsibly you'll be fine.
reasonable shitposting is kind of an oxymoron, the whole point of shitposting is to be wildly retarded.
