The apparent disconnect between management and users

I don't think Garry has any expectations for what he wants to do with Facepunch. He's already showed interest in shutting it down.
garry did that with a lot of stuff from labpunch
does no one remember when garry removed stuff from FP out of spite alone?
He came quite close many times. Remember the "lifestyle & hobbies" subforum? Remember when Garry removed the ability to get Gold? Creationism Corner was removed too at one point. Remember when Fast Threads was merged with General Discussion? There were time when multiple popular threads were outright banned. Furry/anime/pony avatars went through a big hubbub too.
The one that sticks out most to me was when he decreased blue member avatar sizes to be tiny and then removed the ability for members to get gold at all, and it was just to spite like one guy who complained when the requirement to get gold was changed to value time spent here over post count. 5 years, 200 posts rather than 2 years 2000 posts or something like that. The name "slithersoul" rings a bell.
Nothing quite as far as removing the entire website, but it's happened to varying degrees before.

It's funny how despite so many things changing, some things never do.
It's clear that a lot of the things I'm doing right now aren't sufficient and I need to do more.
Remember when I mentioned the community roundtable? I'm going to do it on Saturday. Keep an eye out for the stickied thread for further information on how to participate.
Are you going to shove it onto some stream again? Keep it on the actual forums instead of a stream most people are going to miss.
I mean it's not like it was doing anything. He stopped updating it long ago, why bother keeping it up?
It will take place on a stream, but viewable from the forums and will be properly advertised this time. People who don't want to go onto stream to speak can submit questions that I will answer on air.
The stream will be trimmed / condensed and posted as a thread afterwards so people who don't care to view / participate will still know what went on. The full recording of the stream will be made available and I will be encouraging people to make clips of any relevant or interesting parts.
Please consider making a bullet point list of what was asked/answered on stream, too.
Substitute the stream with a picture of a random round table in the offices in the opening post.
That definitely will be a thing, don't worry.
thank you for these changes!
I know I've been critical but, thanks.
Speaking for myself, it's awesome to know you're trying this hard, and even if there's a lot of criticism that's been thrown your way you've been giving it a good go.
Yeah cheers Hezzy, would be such a shame for this forum to die due to bad management
At this point I'm hoping for a global header with link to the stream/thread.
I just want popular threads back.
Bless this man. truly saying what needed to be said, but nobody had the bravery to say
They don't call him Dr.Benway for nothing
Am I alone in my opinion that, as a user of a forum that I do not pay for, I am not in any position to expect changes based upon my preferences? We don't pay for this forum, it's free, and while the legacy it has created has given us a sense of ownership and love for it, it's not our choices to make. I can't be upset at Garry or anyone on their team because again, it's not my forum, and I'm not paying to use it, either. I've been on here for 11 years and none of these changes have made as much as an impact to me as it has to everyone else, it seems.
Why is criticism bad just because it's free? Garry wants an active community, right? So criticism is kinda necessary to accomplish that. It's basically impossible for one person to have a great community without being receptive to feedback from that same community.
Ah yes, the "It's free so you can't complain" stance.
Well I'm sorry to say that some people value their forum experience rather more highly than you so when things aren't good we feel the need to bring them to the attention of those who can fix them. Also, this forum is still in development and we were asked for our feedback so I'm damn well gonna give it.
Speaking of disconnects between management and users, what in the world happened to the community fund? The link on oldpunch routes to the new front page, and when I search for "community fund" nothing shows up.
What money?
lol sucka
idk about you guys but what i want find depressing is how rarely im coming here now, i usually always have drought periods with fp i wont lie but for some reason i just dont know why im not coming back here
current design is ugly, garry's not publishing the changelogs and everyones too scared to speak up in fear of being permabanned
hezzy's done an aight job but acts more like a puppet than anything else, which is depressing. I think its always too early to say things are going to the rubbish tip but idk, i wish there was a change in attitude from everyone
The money has been spent iirc
I guess my forum experience is just different. At first I was worried about the transition, but afterward I found myself browsing just as normally as I did before. It hasn't had any significant impact. Maybe I'm a one-off case, i don't know. The changes just don't bother me that much.
I was unaware we'd been asked for our opinions as to how the forum should go moving forward, and if that's the case, then by all means, people should speak their piece. But I do think we should do so with care and respect as we're provided a service at no cost that we glean entertainment from.
Guess I missed a huge stream at some point, my memory is really starting to go.
It's an attitude thing. If go around a friend's house and their mom cooks you a burger, do you say
"Thanks for cooking me this burger, I don't really like this sauce - could I have some ketchup please?"
or
"This burger is shit, the sauce is horrible, it's all over it, I can't even eat the bun, it's disgusting. Go and make me another one, WITHOUT the sauce."
Are we friends now? thx
