hyenas are fucking rad
Every handheld gaming console I've ever used, from Gameboy color to the Switch, has been uncomfortable as absolute fuck.
GameBoy Color was fine for me but it was a bit annoying to have the batteries warming right under your fingers, and using the charger wasn't different. Advance was a lot more tolerable in pretty much everything, except the buttons in both consoles leaving my thumbs numb and hard in less than 50 minutes. I don't know if it was a bad thumb posture and I never was a "press harder for more effectiveness" kid, but those plastic buttons sure did the trick. Capacitive screens helped a lot in today's pocket consoles. And about that, may be just me but for other handheld devices like the phone I still prefer to not use the touchscreen and handle them with a physical keyboard.
The "I hate this timeline jokes/complaining" are dumb.
racism against white people just doesn't have the same impact i feel. as a white person i have never been offended by someone trying to offend white people.
Just in general, I really dont find handheld games to be as engaging or enjoyable as their home-console counterparts. It usually just feels like I'm having a needlessly gimped experience because of the limitations of the console, without any of the unique potential benefits offered. It is (was?) a different story with pixel art graphics and the like, as they fit really well on systems like the GBA without compromising any sense of quality. Games like the mainline Pokemon games were as good as they could have ever been. But nowadays, having stuff like Monster Hunter and SMT, which have historically benefit from being on home consoles, on something like the 3DS just feels like wasted potential.
the hitchhiker's guide movie was unfunny and boring and it makes me never want to read the book it was based on
your loss honey
Individual jokes in isolation aren't usually a problem, imo. The problem, I think, is rather the larger pathos they form when taken as a whole. Over the course of my lifetime, all of the casual homophobia in the form of anti-gay jokes, frequent slur use, etc. really internalized and reinforced a feeling of shame and self-hatred that it took me a long time to get over. Even now I'm mostly closeted. Stuff like this hurts no matter who you are. For black people and other minorities, who already struggle with injustices and prejudice in their communities and throughout life, stuff like that can really deepen rifts and divisions between groups and can make life even harder than it already is. And while white people don't have to typically deal with some of those injustices - systematic or otherwise - I think it still hurts to see certain brands of wholesale, indiscriminate hatred towards white people. I think diversity is a great thing. We can all stand to benefit and learn from our differences. That's why I'm really disheartened to see animosity from any one racial group to another. Race is pretty damn arbitrary anyway, so it shouldn't be something that divides us.
Would it be alright with you if I posted a screencap of this post on Tumblr? It's such a good post regarding this sort of bigotry bullshit.
yeah thats what i meant. i didn't mean "racism against white people is inconsequential", racism is racism. it's always a bad thing. i just meant it's never affected me. in highschool i was one of the few white kids in my year. asian and black kids would say white boy, round eye, gwai lo with the intent to hurt. i don't know what its like to be marginalized based on race or sexual orientation because i'm a straight white dude.
Yeah thats fine with me, do you man
On the talks about Half-Life, I feel like we should expect another Duke Nukem Forever because at this point, it'll likely need US Government funding and it'll take a combination of Japanese science, Swedish university students, interns from PlatinumGames doing the boss battles and a soundtrack that puts Super Smash Bros Brawl's to shame.
Having read (listened to) the book I only have to half agree with you. The movie certainly changes wayy too much from the books to the point where it gets really meh. And it's not like in Harry Potter, they somehow do it worse Though I did think the actors in the movie were quite fitting
Capitalism incentivizes being a bad person. And I'm for capitalism in the Nordic style.
Being called a 'cracker' or some other dumb shit doesn't bother me. However, being told that my opinion on social issues is worth less or is less informed just because I don't fit in someone's systemic oppression chart is revolting. I'm a human being with empathy and a functioning brain. Just because I don't necessarily live the oppression others go through doesn't mean I can't understand the situation. On that note, being dismissed about men's issues is bullshit all on its own. Especially if it's done "because it detracts from the real issues women face". And no, feminism doesn't already tackle this issue, most of mainstream feminism does not, at least. This argument in and of itself is an attempt at downplaying the issue.
To be fair it's not like Douglas Adams didn't change stuff when he adapted the radio play to a book.
Because historically, white people never had experienced much racism and discrimination in comparison to people of other races and colour. Like hell here in Asia white worship is strong af. The stereotype of asian women wanting to be with a white man is very strong, or that if you come to developing asian countries as a white person as compared to perhaps an asian person for a job as a english teacher, there's a higher chance the white person will get the job, even if it means the asian person has english person as a first language while the white person might barely be able to communicate with english.
Dunno if this is considered unpopular or not, but I think Detroit is David Cage's best game so far. I consider it better than Heavy Rain more so because of the acting in Heavy Rain can get a bit silly at times.
Yes, mainstream feminism doesn't go over men's issues as much as it should, but the argument that it does, I don't think it's made in bad faith most of the time. In criticizing male-oriented societies, or trends within those societies, feminism - if only sectors of it - has plenty to offer in the way of deconstructing where men's issues come from, and how they can be dealt with. People tend to get defensive over terms like toxic masculinity, as if it meant all masculinity is toxic, and I'll admit, it's certainly not always because of a failure in understanding, but a failure in communication from the feminists, or outright spite and condescension. We should call that out, for sure, but still, there's an insane amount of knowledge on men's issues that I think is too quickly disregarded because of a reactionary attitude towards feminism.
Sure, feminist theory can address male specific issues too. What I mean is that most feminists don't, or they'll agree if they are mentioned but never really do anything about it. Some will go as far as deny they exist. I know I mention that story a lot, but I've had the president of the French Republic Council for Equality between Women and Men look me in the eyes and tell me men can't get raped. To say that mainstream feminism will solve men's issues and that we don't need male specific movements is simply untrue.
Ive always thought woody was a selfish asshole even towards the end of the movie. Fuck you woody
I agree that mainstream feminism, as it currently exists, doesn't address male issues properly. I don't agree that it will never solve men's issues, because what is "mainstream feminism" changes with time, as do the issues. And "solving" can be very subjective. More importantly, how much do you think this male specific movement can draw from feminism before it's no longer male specific at all?
I don't really have much respect for mainstream feminism until TERFs are collectively acknowledged to be a real problem
John Oliver is really fucking unfunny and it's beyond me how so many people here enjoy him. Also him endlessly going on about trump like those blue check marks on twitter is annoying and gets really boring (no I don't like trump at all if I give that impression)
Go on Twitter and you're opinion will probably change.
Do they not? I swear I see popular mainstream feminists condemn them all the time
We should have "white pride days", but specifically angled so that it's a celebration of your actual heritage. If you're Irish, there should be a day for Irish people. If you're English, there should be a day for English people. Globbing all of these things together into one day for all of white people water everything way too far down. I also think black history month is largely ignored in this respect - there's a lot of places black people come from that should be traced back and celebrated. We could spend time focusing on different lineages within black history alongside all of black people as a whole.
I do too but I also see a lot of dismissive attitudes towards them that deny their impact
I unno if I'm reading their post differently to everyone else, but the lack of prevalence and societal context behind racism against white people compared to minorities gives it like zero impact, and that's when I see it at all - it mostly seems to be randos on twitter discovering what nuance is, just never seems like something worth caring about in that respect.
