I haven't caught up with the most recent episodes, but does the game in any way address the moral implications of Marcus' ability to make machines self-aware? Cause it's kinda fucked up to walk up to a toaster that's just perfectly happy toasting bread and be like "you can feel sad now, you're welcome, viva Jericho".
there is something innately hilarious about woolie and liam talking over dialogue in nier automata, a game that has really good story and dialogue, but keeping completely quiet during cutscenes in god hand, a game that has the best worst and dumbest story and dialogue ever
You know, if the best friends can meme Metal Wolf back to life, can they do the same to God Hand?
Marcus is weird because it makes no sense to play him like a violent revolutionary. Why is he all "WE WERE THEIR SLAVES!" anyways? He lived the most idyllic life possible. He was owned by a rich, kind old man who treated him like a human being- like his own son even- who tried to teach him to be more than a machine.
His story should have started in the junkyard with him doing a system restore and having lost his memory. His first of his new memories is the horrors that humans do to their kind. The violent approach to the revolution now matches with his character. But later in the story he regains his memory through the same bullshittery Kara did, and you go through the Carl sections. Marcus realizes he lived a great life with a human that loved him and creates conflict within him, especially if the player went violent.
After Beyond I don't think anyone at Sony would accept a David Cage game with non-linear storytelling.
You'd think after Beyond Sony wouldn't accept a David Cage game period
I mean to be clear I do like Detroit. But it's not a good story. It's fun enough if you don't put thought into it, but to say ti falls apart under scrutiny is an understatement and a half.
His games sell. That's whats important to Sony.
This is my thoughts exactly. I like cyberpunk and robots enough that I can enjoy Detroit, and the game does have some great moments. But at most I would give it a 7/10.
I still have no idea how Beyond was reviewed okay, that timeline jumping shit is so fucking abysmal.
This was a problem since the very first trailer, in which Marcus frees a bunch of androids and goes "you're free now, you can make your own decisions" and every single one of them robotically says "we will follow you!" without any hesitation, so it looks more like he's a crazy hypocritical brainwasher.
Does anyone know if Pat said anything about doing 'The Sacrifice' in Warframe?
Holy shit, this sounds a lot better than what we got.
This. Starting without knowing his previous life would have made Markus' story much more believable.
Another alternative would be to scale down the adventure. Instead of making it this huge has Detroit Android Revolution, make it so that Markus is seeking to get revenge on/frame Carl's son for what happened.
Think about it. Markus only lost one thing: his father figure. Not his freedom.
How did he go from "My dad died because of some conflict and I was accused of his death." to "I must liberate the oppressed robbits for I AM... TURBO CHRIST!" The only explanation I have his that the dump Jericho android fucked with Markus' memory and implanted some backward dumbassery about rA9 and the salvation of the roborace.
If the story focused around the events of Markus' revenge/quest for justice, his story could evolve on its own while also interacting with Connor in a more classic investigation type story. One side you try to track down this deviant attacking civilians that end up being connected to one another and on the other you have the possibility of shaking the info out of these same individuals or straight up murder them for being in the way.
That way it allows the player to make ambiguous choices on their own without having shoehorned characters like North trying to force you to pull the fucking trigger on humans because the game needed a one sided morality character. Renegade for Life much, North?
If they went with a revenge story, the whole "Think for yourself" speech Carl kept feeding Markus would be much more powerful because you'd have to shape Markus definition of said advice. Should he become a deviant that leaves corpses for Connor to find, framing him as a threat or does he become human a seeker of justice trying to get answers and prove his innocence, which than Connor would perceive as distress and end up convincing Hank to help Markus out, giving the detective an outlook on possible good deviants.
Like you said, Markus lived a great life alongside Carl. It's really, REALLY hard to care for his cause when what he is preaching for is not something he ever went thru more than once. It's almost hypocritical.
"I understand your struggle and I will fight for your robo-rights!" No you fucking don't! You took care of an old famous painter who spent his time telling you he loved you like if you were his son.
And he didn't like his own real ass hooman son that much to begin with! So I dunno why you even believed him!
"Everything my deviancy touches is my kingdom." ~Markus, the Mechanical Mufassa Messiah.
Public opinion go UP, but Markus goes DOOOOOOWWWWWNNNNN!

So is Markus actually dead for reals or is it going to pull a jk I'm going to get reborn again thing?
For reals to survive sacrificing yourself you needed to not run away at the infiltration and bring the security android with you who will come in and rescue Marcus and die instead
@Captain Dead for real.
so bad end?
Wild guess. Probably won't happen but...
Markus sharing memories with North will allow her to revive him somehow, like overwriting a "Markus" model's memories. Cause of the unlock symbol.
Also happens if Simon survives the studio takeover and isn't caught by Connor afterward, given you have high enough standing for him.
There's a lot of ways for Markus to get killed in this part of the game and they got the most beneficial as it is the only option that leads to such a massive boost in reputation both with Jericho and Public opinion. One fucking hilarious way to end this sequence is if you fail to rally a good movement and are in horrible standing with Jericho yet decide to lead a violent charge anyway: everyone gets absolutely fucked by the police and Markus stands there like an idiot, and your only options are to either kill yourself or get shot by the police.

"Silence, bi-racial!"
The commentary during the side content has been golden.

i fucking hate it when these kind of games arent clear in what their 1 word choices are actually implying/mean in what youre gonna say (5:21)
Geezus, Connor.
The alternative is if Markus was still alive (altho I think it would still work if he's dead too) is to trick Simon (or the accomplice from the TV station if they went with the kitchen option) using Markus's recording and mimicking his voice to get Jericho's location.
But I was NOT expecting Connor to just rip the head off of the lover. Pat's Connor is fucking metal. Holy shit!
simon wasn't there to witness markus's killing, so he'd be fooled.
I am so so upset Woolie got Markus killed. The upcoming stand-off between him and Connor would have been awesome to see with him and pat going at each other.

Even knowing the twist was coming, man the presentation was so bad. Of all the fucking clues the game dropped about Alice being a robot, none of them hit, then Kara suddenly sees another android of Alice's model for the first time in her entire life and that triggers whatever software blocks she had to break down?
There's no universe in which that twist is effective. Like, even if you see the straight up hints, it's still fucking stupid. It's like the Origami Killer twist, in which the game fucking lies to you.
There's no excusing the Heavy Rain twist ever, it lies to you. Full stop, there's multiple entire sequences in which the proposed killer could not, and cannot have done the things that it wants you to assume happened.
Yep. I give credit in that it was properly hinted as all reveals should be - but all the hints were bad and/or were obscured. Rather than obscuring the magazine in the house because it had her face on the coverwhat the developers should've done is something like an article about leaps in technology regarding android housemates - including some minor controversy over child androids and/or their owners, who take the LEDs off because they want to feel that the Android child is actually a living human being.
No sir. I don't like it.
Not a single bit. This is where David Cage's shows all of it's flaws in writing.
The twist with Alice is soooo stupid. Like the boys said, it completely destroys the entire buildup, while not super interesting, of the relationship between Kara and Alice. Let's program a child android to be the neediest shit ever. Not only that, but like they said: How the fuck can't you not detect another android!?
Connor has been doing that the ENTIRE GAME! A simple analysis, a simple scan he was able to scan for missing components, look up databases, etc. Kara may be a simpler model but I guess her lacking any scanning/diagnosis options explains why she was fooled by the mansion dude?
At least, Connor is a good character and the only thing left to fuck up. Which, I wouldn't be surprised if they end up in a dumb ending that ruins his character.
To be incredibly fair to the premise of 'let's make the most neediest little shit ever' there are literally dolls you can buy right now which you feed and which defecate and whine and cry all the fucking time. If we are doing that before we have Android-level tech, I think it's totally justifiable for Cage to say 'yeah, we're going to make this child so lifelike it's as flawed and needy and as irrational as human children' because that's already a drive for that market.
What would've sold it better though, is if Alice was a model designed for Post-Partum mothers, barren women, and others who had either suffered the loss of their child or were unable to conceive and would rather adopt through Androids rather than through Adoption.
