Oh my God Texas... that's absolutely fantastic. No wonder they've got such a love-love relationship with the Military.
I've noticed that this isn't the military witholding anything, it's the Army. In the Navy it's literally part of your performance Eval to use your TA and use Navy COOLs to get civilian certs parallel to your field that can score you big jobs on the outside. TAPS-GPS is also really useful to hook you up with useful infornation and skills for the civilian sector that a lot of people dont know such as Interview skills and how to write a resume. Navy doesn't give a fuck if you EAOS as long as you still pull your weight til you leave and have a plan.
I have a buddy who was a red leg and was med sep'd and I've heard some outright fucking shitty things Army Commands do for retention.
I don't know US military terms but I'd hazard a guess and say both.
My thinking is you only need to use the clearer pronunciations (tree, fife, niner) when you are communicating in a way that’s inherently unclear like over the radio. I don’t have any doctrinal source on that, but it’s a solid rule of thumb
Zero nine hundred
The only doctrine I’m finding that talks about it is FM 24-18 which only applies to radio coms
It's almost never used outside of radio coms. Otherwise you sound like an idiot or super HOOAH.
Also, I'm pretty sure that I'm completely new to this thread, but I'm going to very slightly rant. I just found out that I was DA selected for 160th SOAR and I'm fucking pissed! I don't give two shits about joining some special forces group where I damn near constantly deploy. Yeah, they've been straining to get people to join their stupid SF group, but forcing newer aviation personnel to join is the most ass-backwards way of doing things.
Oh wait, I forgot I'm in the army. Nevermind. I'll be joining that (probably) ever rising drinking statistic. Fuck.
Sorry, rant over. I seriously have like no place to rant right now and I'm pretty furious.
Okay so it turns out we're not going to Germany but we're sending a bunch of reservist to basically go work with SOCCOM units for training.
What could go wrong.
It's okay friend- rant away. Are you a flyer or support? How long are you expected to be there before being eligible for reassignment?
They gotta get their numbers somehow. A younger me would have jumped at the chance (and tried. Twice. "Lost" my application twice.) Thing is, you can always tell sergeant nightstalker you don't wanna be there. Not sure if that'll work but worth a shot. Yeah, they deploy a lot. However, it is maximum 90 days, you get all sorts of paid, you get to go to cool schools that no one else does in aviation, and you get promoted quick. Give it a shot. I've been in Aviation for 7 years, and the only school I have ever gotten was fucking field sanitation. Regular Army aviation is a far cry from what it used to be, and is kinda miserable depending on your job. Out of curiosity, what are you? I'm a Sierra turned Romeo.

damn, they should probably make it so you can opt out of flagdog v2.0
lmao
Thanks bud. Staying safe as I can, wrenching on the birds. Deployments have really changed since my last one six years ago, this area is a lot safer than it used to be. Honestly, this one is pretty cake.
Former Chilean Army here, i was a Leo 2A4 crewman, i'm now a corporal in the reserves on a cavalry unit.
I just got home, I hope yours wraps up smooth my man!
Hey so, I'll make this short but I wanted to get your guys' 2 cents.
I've wanted to join the army my entire life but back in 2016 I ended up having an episode as a result of some bad weed and I was hospitalized and put on medication. I know the military is a high-stress environment so I was just wondering - if I really wanted to serve, should I try my luck in the army/reserves and opt for a waiver.. or should I move on and put my energy somewhere else in life. I just want
to have some kind of connection to the military honestly. Is it better I use my degree after college and go to something in the government or private sector?
As someone who joined the Army National Guard, I would encourage you to, if you're dead set on joining the Army, go active duty. 6 years is a long time, and they say the ole 1 weekend a month 2 weeks in the summer bit but I'm currently on a deployment right now and leading up to our deployment we had tons of 4 day drills and 3 to 4 weeks in the summer.
It sounds lame to complain about something like that toid you're an active duty soldier, but the point of joining the guard or reserves is to try to live your normal civilian life while serving part time. You'd be surprised how difficult that can be if you're gone for 4 days or more every month, especially with work or school. Some states are also considering moving to a different kind of training schedule where you drill for two weeks at a time every few months. That really fucks with a normal civilian life.
If serving is something you really want to do, then by all means join up. It is a high stress environment, and I've encountered more stupid bullshit in my time in the army then I think I will for the rest of my life, but it's alright. Bet your ass I'm getting out on my ETS date though. I wouldn't do it again for anything.
Hey guys! Didn't know this thread was still alive some I'm gonna crosspost from the Super Friendly Social and Love Advice thread.
I just did the Canadian Forces Aptitude Test today, which is a test that weighs for 75% of your value as a potential candidate for the military. The test results are kept secret but afterwards a recruiter will meet with you to review your performance.
Basically, after the test the recruiter told me that my results were excellent and that I'm officer material which blew me away because I kinda winged it. I'm really super fucking happy right now because that means if I can pass medical (big if, I have some medical issues and past drug usage) I'm basically guaranteed to get the trade I choose.
For once in my life I alone took the initiative to try something that I actually feel excited for and basically the most important step has been completed. To be fair I did take care to eat a good breakfast, take a shower and take a nap before going away for the test so I was physically feeling very well and calm and went with my gut for the answers.
Even if it doesn't pan out, I think things are looking up? I'm probably going to get a job as a night watch security guard if I can't get in the military. We'll see.
just signed up for the irish cadets. if all goes well, i may end up as an officer in the irish army in about 4-6 years
Congrats to you both. If you feel that's for you, go for it and do well.
Pfft, Officers, achieving things and making money...
I've posted on here from Afghanistan 10 years ago... fuck me I'm old.
Maybe much later, well see. I'm actually applying for armored vehicle crewman. The good results just means I'll get top priority.
The war's about to get its gold watch, and can retire in a 3 years.
Should I join the U.S. military? I've been having some family conflict and I really want to get out of here, but I have absolutely no means of accomplishing that. It's coming to the point where I feel I might need to force myself to go homeless. When I spoke to my dad, he tried to convince me to join the military because of it's benefits.
To be honest, I'm not quite sure, JROTC is the most experience I have with this sort of thing. I admit, I'm a very small, physically weak female with zero work experience and I really don't want to put myself into any danger. Is there really a position for someone like myself?
Well this is not the place for you.
There aren't any non-combatant positions?
There's a metric fuckton of non-combat MOS'
@Cassiopeia Look toward Air Force. It would be your safest bet.
What branch are you considering? Look into things like Administration, Intelligence, or Supply (there are likely more but that's off the top of my head). As for the physical portion you should start getting into a good physical routine to build your upper body strength, abdominal strength, and your cardio. But first, you should contact a recruiter and take the ASVAB to see what you even qualify for if you are interested.
Yeah, I was suggested the Air Force. Anyways, thanks for the responses, I'll see what I can do from here.
If I take the Canadian Aptitude Test, i'm not obligated to enlist after I do so right?
