Took this picture out of a plane upon leaving Luxembourg in the morning. The rising smoke is the local nuclear powerplant called Cattenom. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/237363/bdadfe71-d041-4773-a0a0-197c903d2d14/20190429_093408.jpg

Nascar used to be the shit, man. From the 80's-00's it was till exciting and the cars were vibrant and interesting. Now they're so corporate and bland it's unbearable. No one has that drive like Dale did. I personally don't know anyone who still watches Nascar. There's so many automotive sports that have become televised or covered in some way that are just far, far more interesting.
Fungi is very cool.
we've grown out of these design trends recently enough, that the feeling they give me is 'outdated', rather than 'oldschool'. maybe in 10 years i REALLY don't get the plasticky, transparent toy, though. that aesthetic didn't even look good to me back then
Transperent was cool to me as a kid as it meant I could see inside and how it worked. Stopped me from dismantling my toys too lol.
Man y2k is has been returning to the mainstream in all forms of media for the last year or so. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/265888/253ba019-20bf-40fd-bf48-6ed66753a5a4/image.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/265888/46acbaa4-c0f4-48cd-8761-5d9161192f27/image.png https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fdcrefined.com%2Feat-drink%2Fy2k-pop-up-bar-decades-nightlife%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR3VcK4EdwMyIhllLIxIuftcBuo6NOianyaVkA3Zkk00cwk0H77BWlq_CYw&h=AT3CoUsRZ3B9wSRdPI9PykWYi6cKnIF_BMtt-lqq7EMKOmFT-6ye_uZevEin0Vh0Xn3fGpvqNoKPzdVlYrO6pWzxZe4xhp8JjfGRf8DahM7IhDJFEN77QtGp3paxK3jQaJUwRuTiSQ4co-I7tQM https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/265888/5ad2884c-0bed-4ea4-b93d-93fe15379d0e/image.png (etc.) I see what you mean there though, with the tackier side it's more of a nostalgia thing for me
I like Y2K stuff, I can see it surpassing vapor/retrowave as a popular aesthetic in the next decade as nostalgia cycles run through. Nostalgia tends to filter out a lot of the crap that existed at the time too though, for every bit of charming 90's 3D art there were 10 bland and horribly flawed attempts at "photorealism" that looked like dogshit even at the time.
http://66.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mbrj98AKuk1ri4n71o1_500.jpg I wanted one of these so damn bad as a kid. I remember telling myself "When I grow up and have money i'm going to get one!"

25 years ago, Ayrton Senna died after crashing on the Tamburello corner at Imola. After his death and the death of Roland Ratzenberger the day before during qualifying, the track received a number of redesigns to slow the F1 cars down.
On lap 7, the second lap at racing speed, Senna's car left the racing line at the 190 mph Tamburello corner, ran in a straight line off the track and struck an unprotected concrete barrier. Telemetry shows he left the track at 310 km/h (190 mph) and was able to slow the car down by braking, and downshifting twice, to 218 km/h (135 mph) in slightly under 2 seconds before hitting the wall. The car hit the wall at a shallow angle, tearing off the right front wheel and nose cone and spinning to a halt.

After the crash it was immediately evident that Senna had suffered some form of injury, because his helmet was seen to be motionless and leaning slightly to the right. The subtle movement of his head in the seconds that followed raised false hopes. Moments after the crash, Angelo Orsi, a photographer and a friend of Senna, took photographs of Senna in the car after his helmet was removed and Senna being treated before marshals blocked his view. Despite receiving numerous offers, the photographs have only been seen by Orsi and the Senna family, who insisted that Orsi not publish the photographs.

Professor Sid Watkins, a world-renowned neurosurgeon, Formula One Safety Delegate and Medical Delegate, and the head of the Formula One on-track medical team, performed the on-site tracheotomy on Senna.[10] Watkins later reported: He looked serene. I raised his eyelids and it was clear from his pupils that he had a massive brain injury. We lifted him from the cockpit and laid him on the ground. As we did, he sighed and, although I am not religious, I felt his spirit depart at that moment.

It was later revealed that, as medical staff examined Senna, a furled Austrian flag was found in his car—a flag that he had intended to raise in honour of Ratzenberger after the race.
Senna's Renault V10 powered Rothmans Williams car after the accident. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/221276/33e6feb8-a09d-4bff-95a4-c34a58269852/williams_fw16__san_marino___imola_1994__by_f1_history-d5f5oqk.jpg The changes made to the Imola track after the double fatality. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/221276/823d0027-6edf-43a7-af11-0601a143e878/GrandPrix_Circuit_San_Marino_Changes.svg.png
god bless ayrton, he's always been such a major inspiration to me and helped me get into cars as a hobby; always wish I could've met him. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1750/04943010-a1af-42bc-ac7c-70aae32e684d/image.png

He was one of the all time greats, and it sounds like he was just a generally good bloke all round.

They've actually been doing this sort of stuff since 1980. Here's a video showing off some of their earliest stuff: https://youtu.be/Bd5iEke6UlE
We've come a long way.
Where'd this come from?
Don't know, just saw it here
Too bad, bet there's an interesting story behind that thing.
Remember that building with the waterfall? They do a lightshow here every night https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113069/2db23802-0fff-42f7-a9d7-1526fb90fe19/VID_59910922_151853_908.mp4

Wouldn't that still rain down shrapnel?
Better than warheads.
