If he's enlisted he should still take them down lol. Sharing under construction shots of the Zumwalt isn't a good idea.

Ahh okay. Because yea, we are pretty anal as a military here, we used to have red zones and green zones for camps, red for no camera phones, green for camera phones. Obviously its more lax now but you take a picture in camp or they found pictures on your phone during an MP raid? Enjoy your confinement or potentially getting thrown into prison. I find it odd how lax the US is with opsec, since you guys are pretty much allowed to take pictures in alot of instances (even in stuff like combat)
Well combat you're technically not supposed to, like if you watch Russian military dudes on Russian social media they post shit during Secret Ops in Syria all the fucking time. But at the same time those pictures don't really tell you anything about the capabilities, or details about specific systems and considering the Zumwalt class is a two-part delivery and none of the ships even have combat systems installed there's nothing really to show. Internally these ships are infinitely more complex, but you're generally not allowed to take pictures of internals for that reason. On the other hand a big issue out here is yard workers running their mouths. That is definitely a huge opsec issue, often times shopkeepers and bartenders will know ship issues, schedule delays or changes before Crews do.
Didn't they initially order like 20 or 30 of those things but they're super expensive so settled on a handful?
Kinda, but it was kind of a self fulfilling prophecy. So initially Congress demanded the order be cut because the price per unit is several billion, more expensive than a Arleigh Burke. However, buying in bulk and have large lead times on long, large orders actually saves money in the long run so the 4.24B per unit isn't entirely accurate because had we ordered the original number the cost per unit would greatly decrease with each ship built and they would be built faster. Everything on these ships is bleeding edge, brand new plants, brand new weapon systems (except the 30mm), brand new Combat systems, everything is basically experimental. Having to learn to build such an exotic design from scratch and learn to integrate all the systems and improve upon them costs a lot of money partially due to rework and delays. Also this is the reason they don't have ammo for their main guns, because the order for it's ammo dropped from 10k to a few hundred, so TLDR: economy of scale is a bitch and congress can't maths. Ironically restarting Arleigh Burke production is costing just 1 billion less per hull with such a huge order, BiW basically has to learn how to make the ship all over again, a lot of companies that make parts for both ships have also gone under since the ships were designed so that also makes part procurement extremely expesive and more difficult, also a lot of engineers who worked on the 51 class have long since retired meaning building them has become harder and more expensive at least in the short term. Also the price per unit for our huge order of Burke's we could have just built more Zumwalts with our original order for nearly the same price over the programs lifetime. Basically: Navy designed an amazing and extremely exotic (and one day extremely capable) warship, and Congress looked to cut the program due to the team and cost of developing all her systems and fucked it all up while not ACTUALLY saving much money in the long term.
Sounds like something Congress would do.

I accidentally gave you a box for this, which is unfortunate because its a very interesting and informing point. Forgive me.

Is the last one the funeral of Wilhelm II?
Can't be, the photo was taken in Helsinki IIRC.

Map's not entirely accurate. I know the Netherlands executed people after WW2. The Belgians executed 242 people in the same period for collaboration.
My pops is a Expressjet pilot and he's so excited since he might be flying the E-175 as his new plane in the coming years. I hope he does, it's a gorgeous plane.

My dad actually works on these. Got a chance a while back to tour the first one they made, and got to see more of the insides than most. Wish I understood more about ships so I could appreciate it fully, but even to a layperson it's a fascinating thing to see.

Cool! Bath Iron Works, or a sub contractor? If you're in Maine I'll hook you up with a FCPOA coin.
Sub contractor. He does systems architecture stuff that's way over my head And I'm not living in Maine anymore, sadly. I would like to move back though.

Is it real or cgi? I recall someone posting a few images of well made food in the last thread, only to say they were computer made at the bottom of the post
Pretty sure it's CGI. The sponge doesn't look right.
I don't know, these are real tho http://u.cubeupload.com/callumshell1/1517889687373.jpg http://u.cubeupload.com/callumshell1/1522767117269.jpg http://u.cubeupload.com/callumshell1/1522918626530.jpg http://u.cubeupload.com/callumshell1/1533874520622.jpg http://u.cubeupload.com/callumshell1/1535387781616.jpg
https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8800/17185849876_4746574528_c.jpg Dream Vision; A Nightmare (1525), by Albrecht Dürer: a watercolour and accompanying text describing an apocalyptic dream Dürer had on the night of 7-8th June 1525. The text reads: In 1525, during the night between Wednesday and Thursday after Whitsuntide, I had this vision in my sleep, and saw how many great waters fell from heaven. The first struck the ground about four miles away from me with such a terrible force, enormous noise and splashing that it drowned the entire countryside. I was so greatly shocked at this that I awoke before the cloudburst. And the ensuing downpour was huge. Some of the waters fell some distance away and some close by. And they came from such a height that they seemed to fall at an equally slow pace. But the very first water that hit the ground so suddenly had fallen at such velocity, and was accompanied by wind and roaring so frightening, that when I awoke my whole body trembled and I could not recover for a long time. When I arose in the morning, I painted the above as I had seen it. May the Lord turn all things to the best.
