Professional organisation I’m a member of is hosting a ‘mental health at work’ breakfast on a weekday in the next few weeks. There will be a speaker and they will talk about overworking and productivity etc.
What time is it? 7AM. What a joke. I’d have to wake up even earlier than I normally do to attend that. So much for ‘mental health at work’.
Ugghhh.
So over on Facebook the ABC posted an article about how all those poor old people can't afford to feed themselves so they have to sell their family homes with all those "memories". Basically a sob story about the asset rich but cash poor old people.
Naturally, I made a slightly sarcastic post about the poor rich people and the hordes of middle aged and older Facebook users hae come at me with a vengeance. So difficult to sell the family home, move somewhere smaller and picket the difference. What are they to do?
I can only assume these morons expected handouts. Also lots of comments about those darn lazy millennials.
I think that Australians just don’t know how to manage their finances. I remember reading another news article posted on ABC about a couple earning >$200,000 per annum I think, and it was a sob story that they were ‘doing it tough’ and they could barely afford to pay finance on multiple cars and keep sending their kids to some private school. Just, fuck off mate.
Everyone also heard all the countless stories of FIFO workers raking it in during the mining boom but blowing every single cent on stupid luxury utes and jet skis. And of course another thing is that gambling is just embedded in our culture. The financial illiteracy in this country is absolutely insane.
Those poor poor old people with their family homes, holiday homes, investment homes, franking credits, superannuation and pensions. How can the senior citizens of Australia expect to survive!
And now you're telling me Labour has a plan to put a RETIREE TAX in place, I'm telling you it's a war against our destingushed seniors of Australia! /s
thats not just australians, fucking no-one, anywhere, ever, knows how to manage their money well. even the multi-millionaires are doing it tough because it's hard to keep your family fed on the caviar and imported BMW parts they've grown accustomed to
and fuck those old bastards, all of my grandparents had to downsize when they retired. my mums family literally even lost the farm on the street that was named after them because centrelink decided their patch of dirt in bumfuck nowhere was worth too much and they wouldn't get a pension (spoiler, it wasn't worth shit). if they can't maintain themselves and can't even get a line of credit on the property, maybe cut back on the winery tours and hiking shoes
Reminds me of that retarded Liberal Senator who said "Oh I don't think 200k is enough"
Bitch please, I don't even earn over 40k annual and survive, Just barely but I do.
Financial education should be compulsory in school. Unfortunetly it will be difficult to teach as i suspect that most teachers are jsut as bad as the rest of the country when it comes to money.
I make just under $45k per year and live on my own, and I’m actually doing okay. I put $150 into savings every week, and yet I fully account for all of my expenses, and still have enough money to go to the movies every weekend, and get takeaway several times per week (I work 10 hours every weekday so I deserve it, lol).
But of course, because banks rightfully assume that most Australians are morons when it comes to their finances, my bank absolutely refuses to provide me with even a $1,000 personal loan, based on my income and expenses. I don’t need a personal loan, I just wanted to test them to see if I could even apply for such a small amount. But nope.
This is basically why pub meals are so expensive these days. Pub meals were literally so be cheap meals for lower class workers and travellers, but these days their restaurant food. And I'll say it's mostly because of tradies willing to throw away money.
And yeah, tradies have to retire early all the time because they've fucked their back or their knees. They need saving far more than anyone else.
tbh the classic is when fish and chips shops sell works burgers for $12. And then if you want chips with that, there’s often a $5 minimum. So that’s already $17. If you want a drink too, that’s probably another $4 for a 600mL bottle. $21 for a single meal.
i feel bad for people who dont like rice. you can buy a big bag of rice for cheap and just cook it up and chuck in a mix of literally any veges and it'll taste good and cost you like <$2 per serve. i mean i don't but if i was serious about saving money and being healthy i'd do that as well as soups and stews.
my gf doesnt like rice or pasta. she tolerates rice but wont eat pasta.
That's weird and I don't understand.
That's my current problem though. I'm paying 100p/w to pay off a 20k debt. 3 years back when I had a small loan to buy a car I ended up in an accident the day after my comprehensive insurance ended and 2 days before my pay came in. long story short it was a shit-fight, I lost the court case against the person who ran into me and had to re-finance to pay out my old loan, their repairs AND a new car. It's completely fucked me over and the interest rate is high because it's unsecured and because Commonwealth Bank and blood hungry. They should never have allowed me to take out the loan.
i was archiving some old client files at work today and came across a name that stood out.
hes a high profile politican, brought his kid here for years and i never recognised him. its a good thing i didnt cos i fucking hate the cunt.
i hope it's a l
So earlier this week, my car broke down while I was driving into Sydney. I had my car towed to get repaired, but I had to walk on over to a hire car place. Anyways during my little walk, I saw some posters on walls advertising a Liberal candidate (I can’t remember which seat, I was somewhere around Ryde, so maybe Bennelong?).
Anyways some of them had stickers on top of them, and I saw one with a sticker half peeled off. What was underneath the sticker? A little spiel about how the candidate was a part of the ‘Turnbull Liberal Team’. So these posters were recycled from the 2016 election, but even though that was only 3 years ago, they still had to slap a sticker over them to update them to the Morrison Liberal Team. Lmao
I wish I took a picture
just goes to show the economic genius masterminds they really are, the labor party would have wasted billions of dollars printing new posters
theres an ad on tv at the moment about how good low emission coal is. can the coal industry please fucking invent a rocket ship and fly to another galaxy far away from where we will ever hear from them again please.

would be nice
my position is being made redundant, just what i needed with my 7 week old daughter.
first time im gonna have to go on the dole in 3 years.
Sorry to hear mate. Get in contact with those assbags at Centrelink ASAP so they don't screw you around for weeks.
Did you remember to guilt-trip them on the way out?
even better: i was the one who did most of the IT stuff and i have left little to no documentation of how i did those jobs.
For anyone voting for first time voting today: if you have trouble finding at least 6 parties to preference in the Senate election, you can always vote ‘below-the-line’ for at least 12 candidates. Given that many parties field 6 candidates, that means you can get away with effectively voting for only 2 parties. In my own case, I preferenced 22 candidates across 5 parties.
However, the more parties you preference, the better, as your vote will be less likely to be exhausted. If in doubt, always preference at least one major party (as opposed to only minor parties). Eg you don’t want to preference only 6 minor parties, and then none of those parties win any seats, meaning your vote does not influence the result.
Below-the-line is also good because some lists cartel multiple parties together. Eg Labor And Country Labor under the same list, and Liberals and Nationals under the same list. If voting below the line, you can be more-specific with which parties, and of course candidates, you support.
My bloody overseas postal vote never arrived, thus depriving me of my democratic right to draw a massive dick on the voting ballot.
Went and voted.
It was a nice sunny day and I had a sausage.
It was a good day today.
How long does it usually take to find out who takes majority senate? First time voting in a federal election so no idea
Depends on how tight it is. Sometimes it can be as fast as the House, but other times it can take literally weeks to determine which candidates get the last few seats, as those seats may tip the balance.
Naturally at my polling place the only people handling out liberal fliers were old people. They didn't even both trying to give a young guy like me one. Getup and Greens hassled me though.
