a lot of the time on the rural roads near me, driving the speed limit isn't enough to satisfy people. i'll be driving 39 in a 40, and some fucker in a tan silverado comes up behind me and passes me, accelerating to 60-70 mph. really pisses me off when people are so impatient that they can't stand driving legally on a dangerous narrow road and they have to put me and my family in danger
Oof, that sucks. I always try to keep back from semis, only pull around once I get a bit of speed (and don't loiter), and put a nice buffer between the truck and I before I come back in. Because, you know, I don't have a fucking death wish.
Which, considering Sally acts like a bitch, might be actually good idea.
I once had a tractor trailer start tailgating me. There was more thsn enough space betwern us (I’m talking they were far behind) and they ended up creepng so close I was sure I was going to be rear-ended.
If something like this happens, get the truck number off the side and file a complaint with the company giving the time and date (some larger carriers have dash cams that they can view at any time). Most companies will just blow it off, but the driver will typically be reprimanded if it's a larger carrier. Some drivers feel the need to be aggressive assholes on the road just to get deliveries there on time. And more people need to know about the smith system. It may seem like small things to some people, but Ive been a driver trainer and have had seen some people with absolutely no clue about dangers on the road. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8ECGHoMTu0
Probably because slower drivers are probably just bad/not used to driving instead of being dickheads. People who tailgate and drive dangerously are "good drivers" in the sense that they have confidence in their ability to drive. These are the kind of people that are incredibly stubborn. I think it's much simpler to reason with the slower drivers than people who tailgate.
People who tailgate and drive like assholes are inherently more dangerous.
I had a lovely truck driver driving a smaller more-local delivery truck (still a good bit bigger than say a UPS truck) decide to ram his way into my lane a few days ago. Being the freeway and also 70 mph needless to say I made sure to deliver a bird and a religious amount of horn sledging.
Oh and he also forget to mention people who merge at the last second. Onto the highway, off of the highway, off of a closed lane, etc... that only breaks the flow of traffic. Also people who pass in the shoulder/breakdown lane on regular roads, and on the highway. Passing on the right in general.
Keep in mind everything I’m about to say is for countries that drive on the left. Directions are reversed for countries that drive on the right: Passing on the shoulder on regular roads is not illegal (at least not here) and is good practice because it helps with the flow of traffic. If someone is on a main road and wants to turn right into a side street, the traffic behind them should overtake them on the shoulder on the left, if the shoulder is clear. Otherwise, you’re just gonna have a whole heap of cars unnecessarily stack up behind that person making the turn who is waiting for a gap in the oncoming traffic. Overtaking on the left is not illegal, and while it’s not ideal, there are circumstances where it can happen. Of course there’s the one I just mentioned regarding overtaking someone turning off of a main road. But eg if you’re on a motorway and some dipshit is in the right-hand lane and is not overtaking, it’s not illegal to overtake them on the left.
i mean when a cop pulls you over and tickets you for going way under limit on the road, try the 'its a limit not a minimum speed' argument and see where it gets you
Assholes tailgating you because you're driving 89km/h in a 90km/h area can go wrap themselves around a tree. Dunno about other places, but over here, speed limits are seen as a challenge. People speed, just to slam the brakes when they notice the camera around the corner, and then take off again once they're out of range. I do get a small ammount of satisfaction when some asshole in an Audi speeds past me, only for me to leisurely catch up by the next red light.
if you're not comfortable going the speed limit, you're not a confident driver and you should work on that before you get on the road with the big boys.
Well yeah, and the best way to practice that is being on little 2-way roads.
I mean you're free to further infuriate unreasonable people instead of defusing the situation. The end goal is to reduce accidents not to stroke egos
