I played 100+ hours of Gungeon, and it's great, but it definitely has some glaring flaws. My problem with Gungeon was that it really lacks the meta-level strategy of Isaac. You can get good weapons and really steamroll a run in either game, but in Isaac you can outright break the entire fucking game if you're smart with item combos. There's a much, much deeper level of strategy that opens up dozens of different ways to play. Sometimes I just rush through a run, sometimes I find myself bombing pots to get a few more coins so that I can buy Restock so that on the next floor I can break the shop.
Gungeon just doesn't have the freshness that Isaac has. I can play Isaac and find new synergies and item combos that still make the game enjoyable after 600+ hours. In Gungeon, once you've nailed the mechanical skill and unlocked everything, there's really nothing else to do. Good game, but Isaac's waaaay more replayable.
Wizard of Legend actually uses the hallways against you, as it's not uncommon to get ambushed in the middle of one and trapped in a fight against a pair of knights or a swarm of shadow blobs. Frankly Wizard of Legend is the refine of what Gungeon set out to do.
