Jordan Peterson only eats beef and drinks water. It somehow cured his depresson.

If you genuinely follow him it's only because you need a daddy to guide you
Nick Cage can be your daddy
You're acting like just eating beef and drinking water is not out of the norm. I would post the video if it was anyone, it's fascinating especially given that it's made him feel healthier. I was expecting maybe someone would have some insight as to why this is happening, ideally. It's funny that Jordan Peterson happens to be doing it but it would be just as interesting if Joe-Schmoe was doing it. I saw this video in my feed so I posted it. Your parallel to Ali isn't relevant because golf isn't interesting. Only eating beef and drinking water for months and somehow surviving is pretty interesting.
I don't like unfounded criticism - opinions are useless. But that wouldn't be an issue if the people making those comments actually watched the video. You did the same thing on the last video assuming that it would be a circle jerk of conservatives (Yes, they might have circle-jerked for the first 7 minutes because Dave Rubin can't help himself but the video is an hour long). I'm usually able to read a room, so I can understand that most of the population is left. I didn't expect that a lot of people would just flatly ignore the video (The topic of the thread). I hoped for meaningful dialogue regarding topics in the video (with disagreements or agreements on what is said). It was assumed that they were agreeing the entire time, they weren't. It's infuriating to see this happen all the time, but I'm seeing that I shouldn't expect more.
It's hilarious how people are accusing Peterson of advertising this diet as if he has an invested interest in it being popular. He is just having a conversation with Joe. Joe happens to have expertise on dieting and fitness. I thought it was an interesting exchange.
I'm fully willing to criticize Jordan Peterson (and I have) as long as it's in the context of the video. I agree with @HumanAbyss 's description of him being a really ineffective speaker and constantly makes statements that are meant to be vague enigmas in order to imply its profound nature.
It's frustrating how little we know about our own bodies especially when it comes to what we eat, I've recently started looking into ways to improve my diet but the amount of conflicting info online is downright maddening
although I did find this channel that has some interesting videos on the matter as well as a few other self-help topics, the tricky part for me now is implementing the changes in a a way that works for me

I'm not saying the whole beef and water thing isn't weird, but it's not "somehow surviving" levels of weird, as far as I'm aware these no-carb diets have been going around for a while, I'm pretty sure the trend's already peaked, too. This is a more extreme take on that kind of diet but, I thought most people knew the idea and what the effects are. Can you see why people with this perspective would find it warranted, and more interesting, to discuss Petersons's politics?
Opinions aren't useless. Do you avoid exposing yourself to different perspectives, do you not see the value in having your worldview challenged? Just because it's a subjective assessment doesn't mean you can't take anything out of it, but that's just my opinion. Also, it looks like you didn't bother reading your own thread? I didn't watch 7 minutes, I watched 26, I posted about it and laid out my reasons. Hence why I assume that you don't want to bother with criticism, regardless of whether it's backed up, because I sure backed up mine and yet now, you give me shit because instead of reading the damn posts, you just assume they're full of baseless shitflinging. Indeed, it's infuriating when people flatly ignore information so they can confirm their bias
The problem with WIL and the problem with Peterson's approach as he outlines himself is that there is no digital and absolute fundamental and universal solution, other than "eat very little carbs and eat very little corn syrup infused anything.
It's becoming increasingly clear especially in the last five years that genetics plays an absolutely huge role in nutrition, sustenance and absorption. There are areas of the world such as amongst Athabascan, Inuiq and Aleut and various Amazonian tribes where there is almost no occurrence of cancer, and one the reason we now understand is because they're eating things that they're literally designed to eat, and not much else. On top of that for example the amazonian tribes like the Awa routinely live into their 80s as an average barring accident and shit with loggers/forester or hunters despite the fact they basically no access to modern medicine of any kind, there's obviously a set of biological criteria being met that probably doesn't apply to anyone not living in the same area.
Contrast that with the modern western hambeast deluxe diet where flavor is all that matters and food is a commoditized diversion based on 'fun' instead of 'you need this to live', and small wonder certain types of cancer rates are currently going through the roof.
the anti carb movement has a place in dieting, but is really not an effective way to live and eat healthy. Carbs are not the devil. Over consumption of shitty carbs is what’s the problem.
Carbs are extremely useful for muscle growth, active movement, etc...
I think the most important thing you can take away from almost any diet, is to just eat more real food. I have pretty much change my whole lifestyle around just eating fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, and the occasional whole carb (like whole grain breads, brown rice, pasta). I don’t really drink alchol anymore because that shit is garbage for your body.
I eat less then I used to but not significantly so, I work out every morning even if it’s just for 20min before work. Do little things like park at the end of parking lots when I go shopping, forcing myself into easy ways just to be a little more active.
i feel better than I ever have before. The best part is, you don’t have to give up junk food. I’ll still grab a burger or whatever when i go out on the weekends. I just won’t over indulge.
He's clearly bullshitting us about this diet. It's not his real diet, he's being paid to promote it.
How do I know this?
Lobsters don't eat beef. :v:
Man we really need that rule about derailing back.
Anyway in regards to the diet, its effectively a hardcore ketogenic diet which has absolutely shown to help people lose fat, people with issues with their weight would benefit more than an already skinny or healthy person would also there is evidence this diet works better for men than women. The key thing here is it basically does force you to think about what you eat and cut the crap sure it does cut alot of beneficial stuff but carbs derived from bread etc are probably best dropped, we certainly didn't evolve eating that kind of diet we did closer to the keto one (or any green and meat diet with lots of fish thrown in for good measure).
He claims he didn't sleep for 25 days after cheating the diet with an apple ceder. The fuck?
That was definitely the weirdest part of the video. Joe even goes "wouldn't that kill you tho" and Jordan doesn't go into detail at all
Even in his late 50's he still manages to be the guy whose dad works at Nintendo
I guess him not thinking before speaking and not listening to himself, well, it makes sense actually
He's a fucking nutbar, the guy supports people never victimizing themselves and then lives of patreon ffs
But he's not well spoken. Usually when he talks he's verbose as hell, it takes long for him to ever arrive at any point (if he even does so), and then there's the whole post modernist marxist thing that he keeps going on about.
His speech patterns are a reflection of his writing tbh. Long winded, largely content-less rambles through whatever the fuck comes to mind with tangents that swing so far off track it's honestly a miracle he ever finishes a thought.
He really isn't as eloquent as people like to make out. He just keeps his cool (unless he's talking about those gosh darn LIBERAL STUDIES) and uses big words as often as he can. Most of his points, especially in his self help books, have been made by tons of people before in much clearer language with none of the weird fucking "dragons of chaos" shit stapled on.
you're fine with all the fucked & bigoted shit he says, but using patreon is where you draw the line?
'thing bad'
'no, thing is good!'
'here are reasons thing bad'
'haha loser you care about thing?? is shills??'
good.
Maybe because there is legit things that JP does that makes people go "Yeah i don't like this guy".
Like jfc, if your way of countering people's argument towards this shit is "Oh you guys are hating him just cause you hate him". You're Delusional. Sorry if i have to be blunt with it but good lord. If you can't take actual criticism and view criticism as just "You mad bro?". Like grow the fuck up.
Most of his viewers don't though. People unironically flock to people like this and Molyneux, I guess the euphemism they use is "intellectual dark web" or some shit now.
man he's not helping them. he's grooming them to be as awful as he is. it's messed up you still think this is just an 'agree to disagree' situation
Like im a young male millennial. And i can say he's done more damage than good.
Well sorry for ruining your feelings. But this country and this fucking planet has been ruined by the idea of "Well he says some fucked up things, but he's fun at parties"
Yeah but that shit has been said since forever.
By making a number of my friends brain-dead idiots who think they're the next Aristotle and try to press his batshit insane beliefs about women on others.
We had a president that was so fat he got stuck in a bathtub, and many others were were drunks and one even 100% cheated on his wife. Einstein was rumored to be a shitty father who was never around for his kids. MLK allegedly liked getting his dick wet. One of the more famous philosophers spent his time sleeping around dirty animals and pissing on strangers.
But according to JP, if you don't metaphorically 'clean your room', there is no way you'll be able to really fully understand or contribute to society. Some of the worlds biggest assholes literally defined society as a whole.
His self help advice may help some people but it's very far from any revolutionary or outside of what any self help guru would already give to begin with. It's extremely standard advice that any sane teacher will give you.
The added bonus is that he tacks on very meaningless, broad arguments that can be molded into anything, as well as arguments that are extremely caustic and cynical.
Like there's a billion other methods and sources for advice. We aren't saying these people dont need help. They do, just they shouldn't get it from Jordan Peterson since he injects his bullshit into it.
He doesn't effect me because i blocked out his bullshit. Though it effects others that i know and i have to deal with it.
He's not wrong. The advice he gives really is very self-help 1o1.
Despite this, his followers act as if what he says is revolutionary and unique because they didn't hear it from their own parents. He isn't brilliant for saying this stuff and it isn't that creative.
The weird vague anti-post-modernist post-modernist stuff that's tacked onto it just makes it worse.
Yeah i get the whole "wants to help people". But that tends to breakdown when he says derogatory shit about atheists, agnostics, women, and people of other religions.
Which goes back to my point that he does more harm than good. Since he's imbuing his audience with these beliefs in where they will use those beliefs or even possibly take it much farther than Jordan Peterson intended. This is also a reason why Jordan Peterson speaks very vaguely and constantly uses the excuse of "I didn't mean that" as a way to instantly denounce any opposition towards him. Its a terrible and manipulative tactic and it should be looked down upon completely. Cause it gives him the excuse to say whatever the hell he wants with no consequence and his fanbase is completely tricked to thinking everything he says is correct and everytime he is criticized. They believe its because we didn't understand him. The thing is, is that we did understand him, and understand his beliefs are batshit insane. But since he's tricked his audience, its almost nigh impossible to get that point across.
Wisdom of Peterson
If you want JP wisdom, let a random quote generator do the work. It's pretty much the same thing.
Had the points raised against him been actually sufficiently addressed instead of responded with "you just hate him" you could have had the dialogue on this topic that you wish for.
That being said, that a person helps others isn't necessarily a good thing if this comes at other costs - after all, even islamic extremism can be looked on as a good thing in this lens due to it bringing young depressed men community and purpose.
