Forum Discussion - v. Please Don't Call Hezzy A Cunt

yeah garry does that for you
Demodding BDA was a mistake.
He stopped being professional and his actions started becoming more personal, such as permabanning joey for a joke out of prejudice, and changing sgman's name to shameless liar while flaming him too. If that's not reason enough to have him demoted, what would be?
Having him as a mod isn't going to help. The issue is higher up.
As much as I liked BDA as a person, he did take things too far when he got into arguments.
I think as a moderator there's a level of control you need to have when dealing with things or getting involved, especially in the debate-y parts of the forum.
If you can't do that, it's gonna show, not only in your posting style, but in how you moderate too.
BDA was pretty cool overall but I never liked the way he conducted himself in PD. So much alarmism, so much crying wolf and so many paragraphs that said as much as a single sentence could have. I always felt like he was trying really hard to be "The Most Eloquent Dude On FP"
In fairness, as the US goes presently, now is a fantastic time to be alarmed.
worse shit's been done that hasn't resulted in a demod tbh
hows it hanging heh
hardly a good thing, tbh
Shortest season yet

On behalf of all members who frequent Polidicks and SH:
Thank you UncleJimmema.
Lol I figured out that was Tudd a while ago
Congrats on the full time employment! I know we never really talked unless if there was a thread I made which needed to be locked, but thanks for being a really chill moderator.
Best of luck with everything!
cripes i said it was harsh but you didn't need to exactly show it in a post now you're just giving more people more ammo
furthermore why didn't you just move on yourself or consider taking somethings in? i'm sorry if i offended you or if it's been a long day or the fact that you're fed up with the same bullshit coming into the same thread but jesus there are users here who are absolutely uncomfortable with what's happening around you ay
i suppose it goes without saying treat others how you wanna be treated, i only gave honesty in my post that you replied to and you spat the dummy and now you're coming off like you don't even like the user base
doesn't sound like a winning move here
considering you seem to be against any of the proposals for change from the community, insisting that yours and garry's way is the right one and we just need to give it time™ to all work out (even when time and experience has shown these are not good changes), I think saying that you and garry are "stubborn and avoidant" is a fair assesment. You avoid answering any tough questions or criticsms. For example, when I asked "what if S&box doesn't bring in the userbase you think it will because the change how gamers interact with forums is generational versus the genre of game" you just never responded - if you had it would have shown the changes made were actually thought out. Or Zukurichen's posts a couple pages back, you never responded to very fair criticsms, you only rated him instead of attempting to tackle the issues the community has with your handling of the position of "Community Manager".
Furthermore, I didn't think you'd start digging your hole deeper in PD, but you managed to! So congratulations on that one. The whole point of having a moderation staff is so that they can moderate.
Per Google's 2nd definition of the verb form
(in academic and ecclesiastical contexts) preside over (a deliberative body) or at (a debate).
this is the way that the term "moderate" has been used on forums. They preside over the coversation to make sure nothing gets out of hand and that the rules are being followed. That's the whole point, it's in the title of the position.
So I hope that answers your question of "Is my job to police content in Polidicks". Yes, it is. That's the whole point of a moderation staff.
Alright I don't like all this left wing threads, do I get to lock them?
If they're shitty threads, yes! Ultra-biased sources, etc... But then you ask "how do I determine this????"
As above, on what basis do I decide which content should be allowed and which content should be locked?
With a clear rules set that is not subjective, like we had before. That's exactly how you would determine it, by laying out clear rules for users to follow and for moderators to enforce. When a user does not uphold their end of the bargain they get banned (as a warning or perma) or their thread locked (depending on the infraction and context).
Do you not understand what your job is as a moderator Hezzy?
Thread locked for raising valid concerns
Not really spitting a dummy as you describe. That would imply that I was passionate about what I said. I was just explaining my position.
Like it says in the OP, I have repeatedly relayed community sentiment to Garry. It's his decision ultimately.
Also like the OP says people will just have to realise that even though they have points of view, they may not be shared by Garry. They need to accept this or move on.
I don't see how this'll change anything from when you ARE around but okay.
Great so nothing is changing.
you seem to be taking holidays whenever stuff starts to get a bit tough
Since when? I recall Craptasket posting awhile back (2-3 years or so) on the subject of banning alts where he permabanned a number of alts despite ips, locations, and emails not revealing anything solid. I believe he specifically mentioned posting style as his justification even.
Lead Selective Community Management
Those are not the only things we use when banning ults. As with my recent ban of Tudd, I had to find another form of indisputable evidence to justify his ban. I can't say how, as that would basically give anyone reading this thread more info to avoid being caught, but what I found was indesputable despite not being an IP address, location, etc.
Funny, I haven't been abroad for about 6 years so not sure what you're talking about!
Is this a trump tweet? Just add “Sad!” orn”lying illuminairex!” and there wouldn’t be a difference
seriously, you took time off from community management like a month ago when things heated up. Now again the same sort of timing
Is Hezzy taking a bloody holiday really the hill you want to die on? I am pretty sure he would have had this planned for ages, and he is under no obligation to start giving context on him taking a break.
There are actual issues to talk about here, so please discuss them properly and not resort to being a cock for the rest of the forums sake.
Oh come on. He's 1 against 500 angry forumers. He never left, he stopped responding for a brief time while he tried to figure out a good way to solve shit.
Hezzy literally can't do all the things we want. We have to wait until Garry resumes work on the forum.
Things would be a lot worse without Hezzy, so calm down.
If pointing out that the administration seems to disappear after controversial changes or big uproars is “being a cock” then so be it.
These kinds of responses from the people running the site over the past few months have been the exact opposite of good customer service, and if pointing that out makes me a cock, then so be it.
@IlluminatiRex I really don't know what you're talking about. When did I disappear? Are you referring to the time when I locked a forum discussion thread for two days because I was working my other job and was busy? I haven't taken a holiday from FP since I started. You seem to frequently create FAKE NEWS to exaggerate and give your arguments more weight. It's tiresome and is the reason I stopped replying to you.
Have you noticed the pattern in these "uproars"?
It's basically just impatience. Sure, being engaged in the future of the forum is a good thing - but it's just not always possible for things to happen *now*.
FP is first and foremost a game company, a business. The games come first, the forum comes second. We just have to deal with that reality, and not make the situation worse by making Hezzy give up.
