Forum Discussion - v. Please Don't Call Hezzy A Cunt

With the exceptions of the Joey and Sgman incidents, from my experience, BDA was always fair with his bans, which followed the rules of the forum back then.
Implying that he was some kind of tyrant for the longest time is pretty disrespectful imo. Don't forget that he's personally affected by Trump's cuts to medicare, so it's not surprising that as the years go by he would see things more bleakly and act more alarmist towards things.
No one is claiming that he was a "tyrant". He had just simply reach his breaking point. His behavior in the Polidicks forum had degrades substantially over time, and it was not befitting for a moderator. He isn't a bad person, and he didn't make bad moderation moves before hand. He just hit wits end.
I had thought BDA resigned, as he said he wasn't really moderating much.
He previously stated that he no longer had interest in moderating so he'd be okay with a demod. I'm sure that was taken into consideration when the decision was made, and why the treatment of mods might appear a little inconsistent. Craptasket said some horrible stupid shit but we were more okay with that back then, and more importantly, he was a very active mod at the time.
I think that's just rules changing over time.
As an anecdote:
Stuff like telling people to commit suicide and calling them child molesters used to be ok. Now you can get banned for saying someone is an idiot.
amelia earnhardt thread bounces like fucking cray and eats CPU for some reason

Because it's having to re-compute and re-draw the i-frame.

That's the ghost page glitch. I heard it was due to users deleteing their accounts.
Can I see an example of this?
Because your posts come off a bit like " now I can finally let it out" passive agressive
He'd bring up stuff like this, I imagine, and state 'this is pure conspiracy theory trash' because they haven't actually researched the topic that they're complaining BDA is 'making things up' about.
I've seen it a lot in other places, lately. Here's how it normally goes.
Denial: "You can't know that Trump dealt with Russian mafiosos" [evidence showing Russian mafia crime links going all the way back to 1985]
Distancing: "What's your evidence Trump even knew those guys?" [evidence showing Trump meeting and greeting those folks]
Diversion: "You really think if he had decades of financial crimes on the guy he wouldn't be in jail?" [evidence of hundreds of lawsuits of illegitimate business practices, failed businesses, fraudulent behavior de jour]
Distraction: "All this evidence comes from where, the CIA? FBI? IRS? You really trust them to be unbiased?" [evidence showing that they're checking each other, that nothing that's done in the FBI doesn't go through several hands before it gets done with everyone looking over everyone else's shoulder]
Diversion: "Yeah, well, they lied about Iraq didn't they? So why are you still trusting them? Nobody should trust them." [evidence showing that that said IC in fact was extremely against the actions taken to accept the intel that they thought was bad, but was taken away against their advice. evidence showing that the intel gathered against Trump was done by a third-party who wasn't instructed to do anything other than research - and whose research a dossier was built off of which has only been corroborated]
Distancing: "That report was paid for by Hillary Clinton! The FBI based this whole thing off that dossier - that dossier whose information was gathered by a compromised agent who was paid by Democrats to dig up dirt on political rivals, and so of course he dug up dirt. The whole investigation is fruit from a poisoned tree and should be disbanded." [evidence demonstrating that the investigation was ongoing well before the dossier was ever begun - in fact it was begun by a tip-off which occurred when someone on Trump's campaign drunkenly rambled about the Russians having dirt on Clinton and that the Trump Campaign was looking into getting that information]
And just on and on and on and on it goes. The more evidence you pile up on this whole thing, the more some people just cry conspiracy theory, that you're bigoted 'against Trump', that you can't "see the positive things Trump has done" and so on.
Such as?
Maybe if they aren't rampantly shitposting, sure, why not.
"Alternative opinions" based on trash will always be trash. They don't generate any sort of interesting discussion, they're just factually incorrect conservative talking points.
If you want actually interesting stuff about Trump then maybe you should be the one to lead that vanguard but don't expect us to just accept garbage just because you want an ~alternative opinion~
As long as politics in the US are in the shitter like they are, you might as well strap in and wait out the garbage about Trump because that's literally all it's gonna be until they get him out of there.
No real point in complaining about it IMO.
Next Update v2
It's even worse than that because they're not 'just popular'. They're popular because they're built on accurate information - which means if you're against it because it's simply popular you're literally against accurate information and may be enticed to believe that the less people believe in something the more true it must be.
iirc BDA is not a fan of what I have to say but I still think he was a really good mod and I'd have no problems with him coming back to moderate again. He would probably be in the top three choices I'd have for moderator.
Regarding Trump: I've got a lot of friends who are deeply invested in Trump both in terms of praise and in hatred. The only thing that bothers me about either side is redundancy - most people that complain aren't saying anything new and I don't see it as very important to reiterate - at least when not paired with anything new to say.
I don't think that's necessarily a Facepunch problem - that's a problem with pretty much all of American society at the moment.
The far-left echo chamber at work.
You can't criticize the lack of alternative opinions and the prevalence of """dogpiles""" because these are mutually exclusive.
Amazingly enough people from both sides of the political spectrum can support gun ownership - and be opposed to disingenuous driveby shitposting from a graduate of the Rusty100 school of debate
No one can "shut down" dissenting opinions. Stop conflating disagreement with censorship.
So what are you asking for? Do you just want less people posting in polidicks? Do you want less Trump threads? Do you want more people to jump on the pro-Trump landmine that neither you nor Cyke are willing to do yourselves?

Congratulations, a bunch of grown ass adults have successfully made asses of themselves and turned this into a shit show. Grow the fuck up.
Firstly, I think only one poster really made an ass of themself, but the main thing is, I don't think people are really going to get any more mature or serious as long as the rules are as lax as they are.
That seemed to mostly be harmless fun making fun of one poster's bizarre hatred of Texas. No one died, the criminals got caught, there wasn't really anything wrong with the type of discussion as there was no
tragedy, thankfully.
This was such a bizarre overreaction. Red flag
Please stop conflating echo chambers with simply being in the minority. Nothing actively prevents users from posting, compared to real echo chambers like t_d.
I still don't understand what exactly your problem is. People post opinions and agree with each other, especially if the opinion is held by the majority.
Can you give an example? Can you also provide a sensible solution to your problem?
I closed that thread because it basically went from one shit post into a complete derail on everybody piling in the comments on it. In hindsight I should have just let it rot to the bottom, but hindsight is 20/20. While you could argue that this is do to the lack of rules, folks like you long time users were the ones that helped propagate that thread into the steaming pile of shit it became. With that damn near every other thread in PD and SH is still able to stay on topic even with the one off shit posts because people don't feed into it. Threads literally turn into piles of garbage when everybody decides to throw it to the wind cause some shit poster posts badage boys and you all follow suit.
There's names I see in this thread complaining about this sort of thing who are contributing to the problem themselves whether it be out of spite, to "make a point", or because mommy isn't watching anymore and they can put their hands in the cookie jar. Hell some of the worst offenders are long time users, with the vast majority being adults. That's ultimately what it has come down to, most of you are adults.
As some of you read In other recent threads I've closed I don't have a problem watching people make an ass of themselves, and Garry has already expressed plenty that he's not going to have us ban people for doing such. As such I'm going to follow what he's instructed us to do, however he has still given us the discretion to ban people as needed. If you are concerned where that line is drawn don't be, as if you conduct yourself like a reasonable human being you'll never cross it. As for those who don't conduct themselves as reasonable human beings there are limits to what even Garrys says is kosher.
Who cares though honestly? The thread was already garbage, it was a false report posted as fast as possible to try and be FIRST and it turned out to be bullshit. Then some retard went on a rant about Texas. It was fucking hilarious, lighten up.
Like I said, In hindsight I should have just let it go. I was following up mostly to try and address some of the more broad concerns over SH/PD.
I thought it was pretty funny too, personally lol.
Maybe just cuz I'm from Texas.
I think Facepunch could use more funny things like that and the Austin Powers posting etc to lighten things up a bit outside LMAO pics, things have been rather grey since the move to Newpunch.
Wow, it's fantastic to know that the GeoIP database is STILL out of date :v
