Forum Discussion - v. Please Don't Call Hezzy A Cunt

I think the "treat others how you want to be treated" rule is a bad one because there's huge chunks of the internet where people call each other niggers and faggots and flame with disregard and ignorance of whatever comes back their way. It turns into a weird machismo pissing contest with these people. If this rule is to be taken at face value, these people are A-OK because they're treating others as they want to be treated, so I just flat out don't believe the rule. There's unspoken rules involved, which means the new rules obfuscate instead of simplify.
A clear rules list benefits everyone. Moderators have clear guidelines for what is and is not acceptable. Members are held to a clear code of conduct. What is exactly bad about this?
I think "treat others how you want to be treated" should be changed to be more clear, but it's pretty obvious that it is just a bad way of saying "Don't be a dick". No one uses that phrase and means for it to be interpreted as "if you don't mind getting shit, you're allowed to give shit", it's almost always used as a way of saying be nice to other people.
I would rather have "Don't be a dick" than 'treat other show you want to be treated' personally, because now I'm not super clear on what to ban for tbh. :v
Has anyone yet questioned why @Jason3232 is rating every post cute
questioned it in my head
It reminds me of Dumb-pocolypse 2011 (or whenever it was)
I've always just assumed he was easily entertained.
No because we might be banned for caring about ratings, or not, or whatever.
I miss when @funion rated every post in LMAO Pics optimistic.
The previous flaming rules were too strict as any minor random insult that a poster may slam in there out of pure booty bother would result in them getting banned.
Flaming should be classified as constant harassment of a user that exceeds beyond reason of context. IE, death threats, doxxing, and other such. However, I have not seen such things yet and I assume that the mods have already removed users who go these extremes beyond reason.
It should be as simple as: "Don't be a cunt."
However to properly cover grounds, you would really need a code of conduct or community guidelines. Funnyjunk's community guidelines cover base lines for flaming and at the same time allow for a grand amount of shitposting and conversation even though its just a meme website. https://www.funnyjunk.com/community_guidelines/
In my opinion, these should be the guidelines that are followed by mods and left at that.
Trying to be the next mm3guy
Because you don't get banned for spamming ratings anymore, unfortunately.
can i just say that the mods on facepunch are fucking cool...
i live my life like craptasket and postal...
Or jump in front of a bus
My fingers hurt thinking of how long that took.
i thought someone finally liked me
is assposting allowed?
what about brapposting
So long posts get shortened untill you have to expand them manually anymore?
I've got an easy solution for this:
Make it so you have to buy ratings. 10 ratings for 5 coins. Diamond and Coin will remain as is.
Problem solved.
i'd rate just to prove you wrong

Making a yearly pilgrimage to HL1:DM
The measure would be working as intended then.
A lot of this has most likely been said already but as a newbie I wanted throw my two cents in.
I miss the ratings notifications. It let me know my posts were being read.
I appreciate the ability to filter out subforums, but some of them seem un-necessary. The Far Cry one for instance is pretty inactive outside of the main thread.
I'd like to be able to discuss indies and lesser known titles in the games subforum, even if just in a single collective thread. But maybe it's just a matter of somebody making them.
Are PMs/DMs in the pipeline at all? It's a useful function that's basic to most other sites. I'm aware there are discords, but not every subject has or calls for its own discord and making discords requires moderation of its own. It'd be far simpler just to implement PMs.
An option to disable this would be nice if brought back. I'll check back on how my posts are doing, sure, but I don't think there's a good balance between just showing one of a bunch of notifications for a single post, or showing every single notification.
theres a perfect balance that we already had and threw away callers the ticker
The ticker may return some day
Not yet
The Ticker will return in Avengers 4.
read threads > popular > refugee camp > ticker
