yeah, it's a gdpr thing.
reddit just puts [deleted] in the name and post field and they haven't had any gdpr issues afaik. could probably do the same here and end up with less technical issues
"i posted my name in a post" there's two ways to handle GDPR in my opinion, you can be more conservative and open yourself up to awkward lawsuits, or you can be more aggressive and have collateral damage reddit can weather awkward lawsuits, facepunch can't as much
im p sure they replace both the username and the post with [deleted] now reddit is a company do you think theyd just open themselves to lawsuits for the fun of it
Hey how the heck do I delete a quote on mobile? I've obviously tried backspace and every button under the letterbox. I keep putting out posts that are quotation abominations, my last one I just misclicked and posted nothing but quotes This is embarassing
Put a code box right after it and then hold backspace or something
Don't laugh at me now I'm stuck with a quote AND a code box I can't delete
ok yeah youre right reddit still keeps post content for some reason but anyway I was suggesting post and name field being replaced with deleted
Lemme guess, Sony keyboard? Try this: remove the code box by pressing the code button again write a character press code box button (now it should have that one character in the box) press backspace until both the code box and the quote disappears
It works! Hurray!
When a post is deleted on reddit it's always changed the username to [deleted] as well as the content.
After 5 years I'm finally a gold member :0
My join date didn't migrate properly. Should be 2009, not 2018. Oh well, not a big deal.
It's people deleting their accounts *slaps roof of code* this baby can fit so many syntax errors in This is the way our legal team suggested we handle the GDPR stuff
Can you give some examples? Whenever I would look in PD it'd just be post after post against Trump. I'd rarely see any supporting posts. When I did see something supportive of Trump, the person would be fending off 6 or 7 people passionately replying to them
That's unfortunate, but understandable. In that case I do have to point out that the threads are still in the system in some form apparently. If you look at Kiwi's old profile HERE, you will see a blank profile with 0 posts and 0 threads. However, if you click on the thread count you will end up HERE where the threads do still show up. They cannot be visited though; clicking any of those will make you end up in a redirect loop (as a normal user that is) I still would prefer to keep the treads available , or atleast accessable. Is it really out of the question to for example move thread owner ship to the second person that posted in the thread, and completely wipe the OP? Essentially creating a "new" thread by migrating all other posts?
Never mind that even mentioning that you lean towards the right wing can be enough to get you declared as irredeemably evil by that said handful of people nowadays. You can be right wing and not support that gibbon Trump too, you know, or at least have come to the realization he wasnt all there to begin with. I think Grenadiac said it best; even though some of the shit Trump did has benefited him, he considers it morally repugnant when weighed against all the other shit that's happened, and never really supported or voted for the guy in the first place. Yet, all he has to do is mention "conservative views" and suddenly dogpiled.
I guess im a bit of a hard case in that regard, it doesnt matter that the arguments might be seemingly hopeless, it's just that I feel I have to try.
2018 is the new 2009. Personally I just don't particularly care. If people are going to be impossible to discuss things with then I'll just post my opinion and not bother discussing it with them. I'll still post my opinion regardless though even when it's unpopular. (It's just not a frequent occurrence because my views are largely in line with the majority of the regulars of SH/PD.)
Eh. Just argue well. If your opinion isn't too extreme, people tend to understand your take.
PD has definitely gotten more circlejerky - don't know if that's because of the new ruleset (I doubt it), but the rise of "Don't even try to argue with this guy, he's X"-post has been pretty noticeable. The amount of "Republicans are traitors/cowards/etc."-posts is also pretty staggering. Both are probably just a product of Trump being who he is, but either way I feel that the amount of "Trump does x"-threads is just kind of suffocating the subforum. Maybe a little extreme, but honestly a "No Trump Dump" week once a month would go some ways to liven up the place a bit, though I guess trying to decide what people are talking about might also just make the subforum sorta pointless.
A thing that started happening because certain users, such as Sgman and Boilgrig, consistently go into threads on the same topic and completely derail it with their complete lack of intellectual integrity. Have you seen Republican responses? They've consistently spoken out against things Trump does and then when it comes time to take action against them they do nothing. It's not particularly out of line. The reason this has all happened is because of the garbage political situation. People not in support of the current political situation are getting more and more frustrated with how blatantly corrupt the situation is getting and also getting more and more frustrated by the lack of intellectual integrity shown by those who still support the current political situation. It's not really a circlejerk. It's the logical progression of the situation.
Thanks for pointing this out I'll let it sit for a few weeks to see if it's a caching issue, if not I'll refer it back over to Garry and he can do some tweaking. May interest some of you to know the revised guidelines I've given to the Moderators; -------- I've spoken with some of you on Discord about these rule changes and to clarify, largely our moderation style should not change drastically, we're just getting rid of all those superfluous "rules" that became a thing over the last few years (that cat, memes in any shape or form, "advocating murder" etc) Treat others how you would wish to be treated This one is what it says on the tin. I know it's rather subjective, but it's a catch all rule. We define what is acceptable, and lead by example. You're all moderators because I believe you can make correct moral choices. If someone is calling somebody else a fuckwit, you've got to weigh it up; is it just banter or is the guy being an arsehole? Nothing illegal Under UK criminal law. If you have any questions or queries regarding this, just delete first and refer it to me. We can always undelete things later. Post in English, unless the thread/forum permits Self explanatory? Don't post photos/videos of gore/death - or anything that might make people feel sick (link with warning okay) As long as it's linked it's fine. Regardless of the section, but it has to be appropriate. NSFW is considered to be things like (women's) nipples, vaginas, erect penii and arse holes.NSFW rules don't apply to art It isn't art if it's made primarily to masturbate over Don't post NSWF images/videos (link with warning okay) Don't have a NSFW avatar So no avatars or backgrounds that contain women's nipples, vaginas, erect dicks, bumholes. Anything else goes As for general maintenance stuff; derailing, bumping old threads, spamming, etc. It's a given that we still enforce these rules even if they're not written down. It's a forum and enforcement of that kind of stuff is basic. When banning, err on the side of leniency. Bans are now primarily to punish rather than warn (hence the lack of a Refugee Camp forum). Where applicable, intervene in the thread and post a warning to the person(s) before taking action. --------
Really not keen on the idea of there being no RC, not like it'd be much of a feat to make it. Doesn't need to be visible to anyone else but mods and the particular banned user, in fact it'd prolly be better that way, but imo there should always be some method of appeal.
To add to this: Mistakes happen. It's nice to have some sort of line of communication if something goes wrong.
Its more so the fact that there are people who lurk that forum, post there everyday, just for Trump shit. Nearly all of their FP lives are almost obessed with Trump and they're always spotted in these threads leaving lines or paragraphs of borderline obsessive shit Like BDA
Especially since the rules are now vague and not concrete. The explanation of "treat others as you wish to be treated" above doesn't really clarify anything.
I couldn't see this posted in this thread recently but has anybody else had Twitter embeds not displaying?
I think the only time I've seen that happen is when the embedded tweet is deleted.
Might happen if you have tracking protection on.
