You sound like you never saw older speedruns. It wasn't about playing the game efficiently, it was about playing the game with style.
Pretty much all of these out of bounds in this run were quite interesting. "Done Quicker" was kinda lame/okayish when they spent a lot of time out of bounds even though the time it was completed in was impressive.
Speedrunning has always been about completing the game as quickly as possible at its core, the difference time makes is how long people have been routing and glitch-hunting for.
I can agree that faster is not necessarily always more entertaining, but speed>entertainment.
Speed is not always more important than entertainment. The existence of speedrun categories for many different games where certain glitches are prohibited. Half Life 2 has a "no prop clipping" category, for example. I would love to see a full (almost) glitch-less speed-run. Just bunny-hopping through the game like in the canals/coast chapter.
But playing the game as fast as possible is the entire point of a speedrun, not how cool you look doing it.
Read my other post. The existence of categories prohibiting certain glitches proves that "cool" factor is important in the community.
