OWL surpassed expectations already and will turn profitable this year, I don't see how it drives people away.
Toxicity has no place in gaming.
Overwatch is a casual game that's trying to appeal to the competitive esports scene and simultaneously to ignorant, mainstream sponsors. This is the whole problem with Overwatch and part of the reason why I haven't touched it since I got Titanfall 2; they want to balance a game for competitive and casual play and they can't do it because it's either impossible, they're incompetent, or both. When you have a game like OW that is full of people who weren't into gaming before, they're not going to know about how gamers talk to each other. Trash-talking is a part of the game and they just don't get it. They're trying to limit toxicity by limiting speech. I don't play much CS anymore but there was a line between bantering and toxicity and Blizzard doesn't see that so they just limit player interactions. The CS:GO esports scene encourages and promotes the friendly bantering and it makes the tournaments so much more entertaining. For fucks sake, I watched the captain of Cloud9 do a diss rap to the captain of TSM on stage and everyone had a good laugh.
I don't particulary understand how getting rid of toxic behaviour makes a game about shooting other people any more kid friendly.
its like watching something like GI Joe and ignoring the fact its a cartoon about people killing people

if you actually listen into voices you can determine black people vocal range patterns.
Like everybody thought dunkey is black due to his voice (idk how he doesnt sound black)
You can also make healthy guesses on peoples body dimensions by voice too btw, its harder tho
This is very unreliable and oftentimes takes from stereotypes. Even guessing a person's ethnicity based on their accent isn't a surefire way to tell their race due to how different each person is.
Which is why the phenomenon of a person "looking nothing like they sound" is a thing for radio hosts and such.
The reason you don't think Dunkey sounds black is because you know he's whiteof Puerto Rican descent, so you're not subconsciously applying your perceived stereotypes to his voice.
Generally black english speakers at least in america pronounce things differently than white english speakers. You can get a good grasp on what ethnicity someone is just by how they say things. Its just a difference in culture.
I knew he was white before googling his face, and i still disagree, compare LinusTech and MKBHD voices, they both have very different tembres(?????) which are very apparent. Im not an expert but i can hear the difference quite clearly imo.
A difference in culture and their upbringing, yes. It is not unheard of to have white people with similar speech quirks to that of a black person. Most telling is the difference in timbre as generally black people have theirs be deeper.
But my point stands that trying to figure out a person's ethnicity, physique and all that just with their voice will always be very heavy on guess-work. Furthermore, it's pretty silly to try and do that in the first place.
For someone with such an apparently thick skin you are quite angry about it. I think the developers can decide what they allow and what they don't, and you just have to deal with it if you want to play their game.
Also, the difference between banter and toxicity is flawed. I had a game where someone said something akin to "kill yourself" and then followed it up with "lol just banter" as if that somehow makes it okay. So was it banter or not? I am sure there is no clear opinion about that.
It doesn't always work and I know several black dudes who talk in white voice just to avoid getting called the N-word online during games.
Reminds me of that movie thats coming out where the black telemarketer is advised to try doing a white voice to get better headway, and they dub him with David Cross when he does it lmao
Banter is when everyone recognizes, even the person on the otherside who joins in.
If you have two guys mocking eachother while trying to hide fits of tears from laughter than you've got banter. Insults is when you have to justify it. Its a murky line at best, I think a good explanation of banter. The showcase starts at 9:20 and kinda just goes from there.

the issue is that the OW fanbase consists of thin skin crybabbys who can't understand banter and take everything as an insult because they're insecure as fuck and can't handle a little joke
the amount of times i've received a "fuck off, go kill yourself" after a small jab is sad, there's just no fun allowed and feeling just made me stop playing overwatch, the community is just so unfun to the point of ruining the game
the fun atmosphere that was there at launch has completely dissipated and has been replaced by this air of
I don't know what game you are playing, but that's not the case at all. Maybe your jabs aren't just that funny. I have sayed plenty you probably would consider "banter" without being suspended yet. Probably because I still show some respect.
Yeah, that's still very subjective. Since the system is automated in Overwatch, the community itself decides what is okay and what isn't.
The point is that it has to be subjective because its hard to put a perfect line on human communication.
played overwatch since launch until recently, and whether or not the jab was funny, telling somebody to go kill themselves isn't an appropriate reaction
also, what does respect have anything to do with this?
I am not arguing against the subjectivity, just saying that it is - which is why it is difficult to differentiate between banter and toxicity in some cases.
can you just skip to the part where you post an IQ chart that shows """"correlation"""" between race and IQ and save us the time of decrypting your racist garbage
Reminder that the community decided that playing Symmetra or Torbjorn wasn't okay; To the point that well known streamers of them had to essentially be whitelisted for how often they were being banned despite overflowing video evidence of their innocence, and a Symmetra main opening a ticket with Blizzard along the lines of "I am an elderly old man who can only keep up with others with Symmetra, I cannot play anyone else" was given the reply "I will not help you here, if you are reported for playing Symmetra than play Roadhog."
I find it funny that Overwatch is so anti-toxic yet the game itself is infuriating as fuck to play.
I'm not sure where you got the gist from my messages that I claim that black people sound retarded or something, i was just sharing my findings that voice can be an estimate on the physical appearance.
Holy fuck, source?
Here's a thread where a mainly Torbjorn/Sym player documents his alarmingly lengthy and arduous experiences with playing those characters, despite maintaining a good winrate with them:
https://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20760728270?page=1
And while the original thread about the "Play Roadhog" ticket was deleted due to sharing ticket information, this is a thread made after said deletion pointing out how slimy that was while paraphrasing the original contents to skirt deletion itself:
https://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20759568420
Also of note is that the first topic mentions Fuey500 and Stevo, streamers of Sym/Torb gameplay who were also part of the unofficial kill-on-sight community consensus who can be looked into for additional footage/info.
It is also worth mentioning that the "Fuck you" false reports which got XQC in his downward spiral in the OP video was of him reporting a Symmetra main three times in a row at the start of a match. This is probably (at least partially) what led to action being taken so harshly against him; As it was such a blatant and open misuse of the report function by a 'Pro' player during a time where people were questioning if Blizzard was actively allowing the free-range elimination of players who prefer less-popular characters, ontop of a clip from previous streams (which I sadly cannot track down at this moment) where he did the same to a Torbjorn player who you could actually see drop from the game (due to being automatically banned) immediately after he sent in the report.

What an absolutely rotten community, from the top down.
Does "Ka-chow" mean something in Overwatch that it usually doesn't IRL or something? Like, wtf.
Yeah there's something severely fucked up with Overwatch. It's not just the devs either, it's like all the people who only ever played blizzard games and LoL flocked to OW when it came out. Blizzard games(I'm looking at you SC2) have this huge problem with really toxic, tryhard assholes that become obsessed with the games and I've seen this happening since the early 2000s with Diablo 2. There's something really fundamentally wrong with these people and something about Blizzard, MOBAs, and other games that require learning a meta attracts them.
