Less well known games you want more people to play

I really like The Dream Machine. It's a point and click episodic adventure game made out of everyday materials like clay, cardboard, and broccoli.

I wish they made a Hidden Source sequel.
add me on steam @meanwhile lets shoot some dudes

Ohh man, I love a chance to shill my favorite 90s game.

Obsidian was one of those Myst clones that came out right after the genre blew up, but in my opinion it's a god damn masterpiece. It's a standard point and click, but it touches on stuff like the philosiphy moral ramifications of AI and nanotechnology. It's really creative and an absolute visual treat. I recommend skipping around this longplay a bit, because there's no way to buy it
anymore, and even if you did, it only runs on Windows XP or lower.
i wouldn't mind playing with you either if we happen to be on at the same time cause of time zones
haven't played the game in forever though, so i'll likely have no clue what i'm doing

This is probably one of my favorite puzzle games of all time.
You play as Niko, someone who wakes up in another world. You solve puzzles and do other shit idk, just buy it play it. It's real good.
Import Tuner Challenge or the Tokyo Xtreme Racer series
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pL_B_P5dWrQ&feature=youtu.be
One of the few arcade racing games that has so much details being put into it. You are able to tune with a lot of the car setting which is something you’ll usually find in a more sim oriented racing game and there’s a lot of customisables that to this day, I don’t think have been matched with modern racers yet.
When you install an engine upgrade, the engine model changes with new parts to reflect on the change. You can customise the interior as well by changing seats, steering wheels, add gauges and decors that hangs from the rear view mirror. Heck, it even allows you to choose between neons or LEDS for underglow!
Lets not forget that you have to keep an eye on the water and oil temperature as getting too hot will affect performance, you can tune the LSD, Gear ratio, suspensions and downforce. It’s not something you’ll see in an arcade racer.
Sadly, the game was dismissed as another Underground clone hopping on the import bandwagon (despite the series being way older than even the first Fast and Furious), so it didn’t sell well. Being a 360 exclusive is also an issue since the dev are Japanese and we know how well the 360 sold in Japan. This is the last console game released by the devs and although they are still around, they aren’t doing anything serious and their recent game for this series turned out to be a mobile game.
That looks awesome. Do you know if it's on the xbox store? I set up my 360 last week to replay Fable 2 and I'd love to give this a go.
Wuppo. A very weird and silly game with a style of humor similar to Paper Mario. Gameplay is alright, but there's lots of places to explore and the plot gradually thickens as you progress through the game.

It's 50% off if you buy it in the next 20 hours.
Swat 3
I fucking loved that game, and wish it had proper support for the steam release.
Raiders of the Broken Planet
it's great if you like low brow humor, and going free to play.
Like you said, I don't find the game superb or anything, but 've given it the honor of being superior to Cave Story.
The Solstice update bumped this game from heartwarming to goty material. Gah, I loved it.

I don't have anything to add to this thread. I'm very picky and stingy with what I recommend to others.
Any Mechwarrior game except Online
The older games are abandon ware but the subreddit has all of them packaged into an easy download, and they work on Windows 10 mostly flawlessly
i played the shit out of swat 3, never played much of 4 tho
I liked Darkwood a lot

Avorion is a game i've been having quite a bit of fun with recently. It has fully customisable shipbuilding, elements of the X series (station and fleet ownership, trade and whatnot), plus an overarching story goal. I can't build a ship worth a damn tho, so I usually just get one from the workshop.
SWAT 4 is fantastic. Too bad about the shit companion AI and the fact that enemies can one shot kill your teammates the moment they see them.
i really enjoyed the war of the worlds game from 98, a pretty clever mix of grand strategy and rts, although it was really fucking hard and near impossible to keep up with the martians production rate
never played it, but it looks worth it for a single mission alone that is somewhat spooky and really interesting, for sure.
Definitely BoneTown!

Little Big Adventure/Relentless and its sequel (both available on Stream)
Games with great world-building and fantstic music, well worth a try!

probably the most fun turbojank games I've ever played.
The only problems is the camera controls are pretty shitty and I had problems with crashing later on in the playthrough.
Spiral Knights might be a game of past for me, I still treasure it in my heart.

It's such a fascinating type of fantasy MMORPG (MMO in a sense you have the Haven where people chill, but in missions you work in a small group) because it stands out from the usual stuff in both theme and gameplay; combining sci-fi and fantasy by making the knight archetype a race beefed-up with sci-fi equipment.
Not only do you have shield and swords (plus some shovels/axes in the mix, but they still count as swords), but you also have handguns and bombs depending on what sort of loadout you make for yourself. Also cute palm-sized drones that have adapted to be either winged kittens, fire-spitting drakes or masked creepos. There's a variety of enemies to cut, shoot or blast away with tier bosses you must beat before you can advance your own rank. To this day, Snarbolax is still a boss whose fights I remember fondly.

And it's strange, really. Most of the fight consists of blocking and dodging unchangeable attack patterns while Snarbolax is invulnerable. Only when it's not moving underground and is close to the bell can you stun it with the bell, making it vulnerable to damage for a moment.

And even that isn't 100% guaranteed, sometimes it won't stun even if Snarby is biting on your ass right next to it. Yet there's just something so charming about this boss fight, especially with the boss theme kicking in as Snarbolax emerges from the ground. In fact, the music's a real baller in Spiral Knights, both in action and moments of calm.

And like said before, it's quite the unique setting; a planet of clockwork, its world ever-shifting with the turns of its gear-innards.

It's a shame the game has fallen by the wayside (with the gross offshoot 'Rise of Knights' app game that was removed from very existence), I'd really like to see a true ending to the game. However, for newcomers there's still a lot to explore! It's not a perfect game, but there should still be plenty of playability left in it.
I just played through the campaign of Redout, an F-Zero game that TB recommended awhile ago, it's the first game that makes me wish I had a VR headset. It looks really good and you go faaaaaaaast and it's challenging.
The demo track is kinda boring compared to some of the f-zero esque shit some of the later tracks do. Only thing is there are many dlc tracks that you'll end up wanting.

If you liked Sunless Sea and/or waiting for Sunless Skies to finish (both a bit too popular to talk about on here), I'd recommend A House of Many Doors.

The presentation isn't much, and like the game it's inspired by the combat and general gameplay isn't much to write home about. However, it makes up for it with excellent writing that's creepy and often witty and it's dripping with atmosphere. Treat it like a visual novel.
And if you haven't played Sunless Sea, I have the same to say about it except I'd recommend it over HoMD.
Alpha Protocol. Found out about it from a Cr1tikal video.

Rune - Old-school, simple, well-crafted Viking action-adventure with a surprisingly polished combat system in the vein of the Jedi Knight series (dismemberment, strategic melee combat, insanely difficult on higher settings). Recently had an open-world sequel/reboot announced which is looking very faithful to the original's core gameplay, which could be either really great, or terrible. Play the original before the new one comes out and potentially tarnishes its image.
Sheltered - Indie 2D post-apocalyptic management sim from before Fallout Shelter was a thing. Nothing particularly unique about this except for its lo-fi art style, and that it is supremely depressing. I had to stop playing it after a little while because it was really getting to me. The game is not really that good, but I want to share my pain. Wait for a <$5 sale.
Kingdom: New Lands - Another indie 2D resource management title, but much more engaging and not so traumatizing. Very subtle, yet deep gameplay mechanics wrapped up in a gorgeous artstyle and atmosphere. Best played blindly. If $15 is too steep you can get the original Kingdom: Classic for $5. They are fundamentally the exact same gameplay-wise, but New Lands just has more content.
Madness: Project Nexus 2 - 3D isometric arcade-style "run-and-gun," a sequel to a spinoff of a game based on the old Madness Combat series from the golden days of Flash animation. Not really "less well known" since it has that pedigree, but I never see anyone talk about it here. The game is still in development despite failing its initial Kickstarter a few years ago but it's mechanically 99% complete, and you can purchase and play it right now if you hassle someone for a key on the Discord server. Right now they're just putting the finishing touches on the atmosphere and story content before releasing on Steam. Krinkels taught himself 3D animation and design just to make this on top of the animations he was already working on, so you know it's gonna be 100% faithful.
Kentucky Route Zero - A magical realism adventure game about a mysterious road called the Zero. It's basically interactive art.

Honestly though you shouldn't really see this as a game, but more as an experience. Not trying to sound pretentious or anything, that's just what it really is.
