I haven't even watched the video but are the reasons "exclusives", how it's pushed as a multimedia machine, and how microsoft is shit?
How about you watch it?
I hope you didn't mean to sound passive aggressively rude, but all I wanted is some confirmation, is it even worth my time to watch if it's just beating the same horse?
Pretty much, this was a pretty predictable video, but he’s not wrong. The Xbone really lacks any must have exclusives, which has been a problem for a while now, seeing that Halo and Gears of War has been floundering with its most recent entries.
Exclusives being meh. Following the Xbox 360 it's not good. The interface is dog shit, something I completely agree with. Microsoft being shit.
Xbone's become more consumer-friendly than PS4 at this point, only thing the latter has going for it is that it secured a bunch of third-party exclusives because it got off to a far better start sales-wise. Outside of the library Xbone's become the better device over time.
I get you, but why should Facepunch be your personal stunt-squad?
I feel kinda' bad about it to be honest, because less console exclusives is to the benefit of customers overall, but at the same time exclusive are the thing that makes buying a specific console worth it in the first place.
Don't forget that, because Xbone exclusives are for PC too, there's little reason to even buy the machine.
at this point, it's the cheapest console to buy this generation and offers good shit like 360 games compatibility. i don't care what people think, i'm happy to own One.
I’m actually selling mine because I never have a reason to play it. Especially since I have a PC
The only reason they became consumer friendly was because they are on the loosing side this generation. Sony did much the same thing with the PS3.
This post is stupid and your hang up on their being rude when you didn't even watch the video is even more stupid. if you have such an issue with it, don't even bother at all.
They became more consumer friendly because the head of Xbox changed to someone who actually gives a shit about games. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70z2jtcQf4s https://youtu.be/KYph4FCz8AE
Then what else is facepunch good for? I just use you guys to "beta test" shit for me.
Wouldn't be the first time someone took a jab at Jim Sterling without even bothering watching the original video. It's kind of obnoxious how many people on the forums hate the guy but will still find their way to every thread about him and make sure to remind you how much they dislike Jim Sterling and how they don't watch the videos.
The Xbox changed from being a console with notable exclusives, to a console you buy when you don't have a PC good enough to play Microsoft's games as well as some 3rd parties. And honestly, I approve of that change. It devalues the Xbox as a console in the games market, sure, but more options to play games is always a good thing. It's almost like MS is trying to take the same approach that Nintendo is making. Merging their PC and console experiences into one ecosystem (like Nintendo merging portable and console).
I mean, he has a point. If you have an xbone, a ps4, and a gaming PC, there is no reason whatsoever to turn on the xbone. If you have a gaming PC and want a console, it makes no sense to get the xbone because it won't do anything your PC can't.
The exclusives stuff is frustrating now that I actually own an Xbox. I was PC only forever and always wanted them to release them on PC too, but now they're is less I need my xbox for.
Really though Jim's videos have always dragged on for so long to make a point, that's why I'd rather not spend 15 or so minutes to slog through something like this.
Personally i dislike his opinions on social issues because they're half-formed and not even remotely thought out. I love his opinions on the gaming industry because unlike his social stance, they're informed, thought out and well argued.
The backwards compatibility really deserves more credit than it gets. In quite a few cases it basically does the same job as a remaster, especially with original Xbox games.
As someone who owns a beefy gaming rig and an xbone I gotta agree that having both of em is pretty pointless. With that being said, while ps4 has awesome exclusives (Yakuza series, Heavy Rain, Detroit) I'd still grab an xbone over a ps4 if I didn't have any gaming devices due stuff like backwards compability, better pricing for the Turkish consumers and not worrying about getting my 3rd party game accounts locked to a certain platform (yeah I'm on about the fiasco regarding the Fortnite accounts).
This won't apply as much to people without a PC at all, but I once grabbed my XBone and set it up to see if I could make a use of it, and I didn't see a single game that would have appealed to anyone that I either couldn't just get on PC or find a far superior game to get instead. The switch on the other hand, has better controllers to choose from and amazing first party games, as well as the ability to be popped out of the dock and thrown into your bag. PS4 outside of its good exclusives has a VR headset that you can get for it, something that is very expensive on PC. The Xbox however has nothing that really stands out, at all. Buying an Xbox means you're missing out on either a mobile console, or the ability to us VR. Buying it over a PC means you're getting an inferior device that isn't even that much cheaper in the long run.
The Switch is only good if you like a very specific brand of video games and have quite a lot of disposable income since from experience first party titles on nintendo consoles don't really drop price over time. Like I for one could not give half a shit about any official Nintendo IP, so the Switch is automatically just not worth it.
I have 8 games that aren't Nintendo IPs which include dont starve, morphite, doom, minecraft. Just looking at exclusives its still very solid. It's a very diverse platform for indie titles, my wishlist on the eShop is pretty large at this point. I bought it mostly for mobility, something all others lack. It is basically the only mobile worth buying. So no, its not 'only good' if you'rein it for Nint titles.
It's slightly tempting to get an XBOX One if only for it's backwards compatibility, if only said BC wasn't so limited at the moment and XBOX emulation wasn't getting more and more promising. I dunno what Microsoft can really do about it. If there was a fix that was probably half a generation of consoles ago. I just don't like the XBOX One. I don't like the way it looks, I don't like the user interface, I don't even like the games they're pushing. Maybe I'm the minority but I've never ever cared about Gears of War, Forza, sports games, or indeed the Halo series post Halo 3. I don't think most other people care the way they used to either. That stuff was the heavy hitters in like, 2008. I don't think there's gonna be anyone sold on a console because of sports games and driving games, there's always gonna be fuckin sports games and driving games on everything now. It's practically a formality at this point. But I get a vibe like Microsoft is going to start off strong in the next generation. Nothing motivates someone like really fucking up and having the sting of recent mistakes in their head. So my wishlist for the next generation of XBOX is as follows; A name that isn't stupid or confusing. Please just call it the XBOX 4 or something. A more distinctive style. I'd personally love to see a return to black on green with an original XBOX inspired theme for it. A good startup noise and intro. Yes, this is a bit silly, but people fucking fawn over the Gamecube, PS2, and XBOX's startups. It's your first impression, make it a stellar one. A user interface that doesn't eat my ass. I would love, again, the original xbox updated for the modern day as a starter theme. Personally I would love to see a user interface that you can customize, not just with wallpapers for your different games but with icon sets, sound effects, and wallpapers that just look nice. Animated stuff would be cool. Support for custom themes would be rad too. DON'T TAKE AFTER WINDOWS 10. NOBODY LIKES IT. Throw your weight behind something new and interesting as opposed to tired old franchises that you've been doing for a decade now. I want an exciting flagship franchise that is to the 4th XBOX what Halo Combat Evolved was to the Original. This doesn't have to be an entirely new franchise, a fresh take on an old one would also be good. Like a Halo reboot that feels more bright, cartoony, and colorful the way the first one did, or, maybe you get Konami to make a new take on Castlevania as the XBOX's 'answer' to Dark Souls or especially Bloodborne. That's just me obsessively loving Castlevania but whatever. Maybe something a little less boringly realistic but that's just my preference. For some reason the standouts for me with the original xbox and 360 were always the RPGs and I'd love to see more on the XBOX. Failing that an emphasis on bringing indie games to consoles would be wonderful. No big bright LEDs on my fucking controller. Backwards compatibility is hugely appreciated for me. I'd love to be able to start with access to a huge amount of titles from the original XBOX.
I just want to play Rare Replay on my PC. Please, Microsoft. You can keep the Halo games.
Or if you, I dunno, like playing games on a handheld. My PC is just fine but there are a lot of genres I have always preferred to play on a handheld, so the same games have more merit to me on the Switch despite the lower graphical prowess.
