(I know this is just me being anal retentive and the Win is ***not*** for everyone, but I just want to point it out) The GPD Win 2 (and to a lesser extent the GPD Win) are very comparable to the Switch in terms of power, and far more portable than a Switch. Obviously it's a more involved proposition than a Switch, but it's still a cool thing that exists. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/288267/0121a46e-09c4-4935-9b01-498871ec00a4/image.png https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/288267/3c3d66ce-c91f-4150-a059-1e67c04a84c4/image.png Way more expensive than a Switch tho.
Agreed, a lot of the Xbone's early troubles was because Don Mattrick was an utter tool over managing the system; it's no wonder that his job after leaving Microsoft was to go to Zynga of all companies. If Microsoft had ditched Mattrick right at the Gen7-Gen8 transition and started fresh for the Xbone, they'd probably still be ahead of Sony at the moment. It may have even had a knock-on effect for Nintendo's fortunes, because the PS4's massive publicity push from its victory over the Xbone at E3 2013 had ended up drowning out the both of them in games press. I've said this before, but the whole "THIS IS YOUR NEXT CONSOLE" hysteria was omnipresent.
The third party library isn't bad but I think the number of people who would be willing to pay $300 just to play games they've already played, but on the bus, is fairly limited. I'd say it's a pretty hard sell if you're not into the first party games.
My thinking is somewhat about people who don't already have a PC or other system. I came into it with the attitude of buying certain games on the switch instead of PC, keep a good number of games going on it so I can keep them mobile and every thing. It's very much worked out. If you're needing to move around it's far more than just 'playing it on the bus', really. Even just in the home it feels insanely good to be able to undock it and immediately move to a different room to play it there.
The Switch is good for anybody who values portability highly, being able to play anywhere at any given time. I know people who were against purchasing one because they barely travelled "so they wouldn't need one anyway". As soon as they owned one they learned how great it is to be able to play anywhere, even in their apartment. People vastly underestimate the portability and its comfortability of it, compared to stationary consoles.
