I mean, this is based on 90s Venom and in the 90s Venom was this giant goofy fucker.

Other than Tom Hardy's ridiculous accent(which is bizarre since he's normally pretty terrific), this movie looks pretty great actually.
I also can't stand the unnecessary humour that plagues pretty much every superhero movie out today, so I'm not a fan of that in this, but I'm definitely in the minority there so whatever.
From the trailers, I expect a rather formulaic superhero film with a darker edge and maybe a dumb fun mix with the monster movie genre. Don't get me wrong, the trailers seem to show that they are getting some things right with the character and design, at least, but I'm concerned about how well the characters are written and if it's an interesting story and not completely trite. I don't think I'll be rushing to the theater to find out, but I hope it's at least a fun watch.
I feel the humor is a bit overused generally but when it comes to characters like Spider-Man and Venom, it should be there.
It's funny you mention Spiderman, because that's precisely the one property that I genuinely like seeing 'superhero humour' in.
I know Venom typically has a bit of a sense of humour, albeit a dark one(which contrasts well with Spiderman's humour), the trailers seem to imply that it's a bit too widespread throughout the movie. Given how dark the film appears to be, the amount of humour will probably just hurt the entire atmosphere if anything. If Spiderman was in this however, I wouldn't have any criticism since the relationship between them is pretty terrific thanks in part to the humour.
Totally understandable, as Sony is total bunkus, but this time around it feels different I suppose. The film took so many years and writers and directors and re-casts to finally narrow down and solidify a crew that would do it justice, so a la Rockstar Games delaying something, I think it’ll be worth the wait. If they rushed it out 8 years ago it would have been tragic
What the fuck is going on there? Venom and Hulk calling someone out on live TV? I kinda want this to happen now.

I really hope if carnage makes an appearance that he is still bright red, if he's just a slightly different shade of black that's gonna be disappointing for me.
I really don't mind them making Venom less dependent on Spider-Man since it gives them a ton more creative freedom.
To be fair, thats more or less what Riot looked like, just a greyer Venom.
The other Life Foundation symbiotes were more colorful, generally. Two of them besides Riot are going to be in this iirc.
I wouldn't have gone with Riot, for basically aesthetic reasons alone
I hope we get Venom's most iconic scene.

Everyone in this seems cartoonishly evil.
like who thought merging humans and symbiotes was a good idea. what was the leadup to this decision
well, it is based on a cartoon
I dunno, being a 9 foot tall hulking behemoth with axe hands sounds pretty good to me.
so wheres anti venom?
I hope there'll be a scene of Eddie Brock eating chocolate as a reference to this:

the only venom that matters.

Tom sounds like he's doing a Dunkey impression

Ahmed said during the panel that Carlton Drake is a "genius billionaire inventor" who is trying to answer the question of "what does the future of humanity look like" with the Earth on the brink of ecological collapse.
We live in a society etc.
So basically, his motive is going to be about as well defined as the Lizard's from The Amazing Spiderman. "World is a fuck, therefore we need to evolve into dinosaurs/puddles of goo"
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that Venom looks and acts like he does because he mimicked Spiderman's suit and Eddie Brock wants revenge. So in this universe without Spiderman, is Venom just an evil symbiote and they all look like that anyway? Granted, he's lacking the big white spider on his torso but Eddie Brock isn't evil here, or at least not in the trailer.
They're taking elements from the Ultimate canon where Venom was completely separate from Spider-Man and his abilities were based more around symbiote constructs like tendril whips than mimicking Spider-Mans powers.

The jokes seem a bit forced, but for some reason, I kind of liked them.
They remind me of the psychopath kind of hero in dota 2
It reminds me of Venom from the PS1 game and how he kept saying dumb goofy shit all the time.
Incidentally that one is also my favorite.
PS1 Venom was a goldmine of superhero villain cheese. I won't be mad if in the next movies they take a bit from him.

I love this big idiot.
