Pretty hyped.
RDR1 might be the only game where I got to 100% complete without really setting out to do it, it was such a treat.
I hope it comes to PC, I enjoyed RDR1 on my PS3 but I want to play both on computer since that's my primary system. I really like that the gunplay looks Max Payne 3ish, except now you can sling your two handed weapons too.
As much as I hate rockstar for how GTA V was handled and turned into a shark card money grab RDR is still my favourite game of all time and this game looks so good I don't think I can skip it.
Yeah, I guess you're right. I'm just really bitter because i don't like online games in general, and many of the features seem like no-brainers, like the garages os personal vehicle system. It's just such a shame not to have them in sp. Also all that ridiculous fun shit like airstrikes and supertanks and whatnot
who would want these things? its like the dumb starting dlc packs that new vegas had. in a singleplayer game why would you want free weapons and boosts and shit?
game looks stunning, i'm hoping they not only put a lot of detail and depth into these systems but also that the story mode is lengthy.
Hot take: With the exception of RDR, all of Rockstars stories have been horribly executed messes with no clear vision.
i kinda hope it doesn't have the carry 20 weapons at a time system and you actually have to choose the weapons you want to take with you and your horse but I won't be too upset if they do.
There's a slight chance that they'll shove busywork in the single-player experience, like having to manage the camp and whatever. It's just that tempting, and these preorder are a bad omen really. Hope not tho.
I actually think that would be really cool. "Hmm think I'll take the Winchester today".
Welcome to any Rockstar Game that's released in the last 8 years.

Max Payne 3 had an excellent story that only gets criticized because of its relationship to the previous titles. GTA IV had an excellent story that only gets criticized because it unavoidably clashes with the nature of the title's gameplay. It seems like the quality of Rockstar's storytelling is a function of the solemnity of their stories.
I can't wait to throw a stick of dynamite under a horse carriage.
I'm skeptical. The way they had this same lady talk up GTA5 (rob stores on the go and clerks actually respond to your voice!) and everything they talked up ended up being extremely mundane
They do in MP, but all it does is make work faster IIRC.
Exactly, they work faster when you make a loud sound. I've walked into the store and just screamed loud as fuck and it still works. It's misleading, is my point
It's reacting to your voice, I'm not sure how that is misleading.
Because robbing stores in GTA 5 ended up being the same every time
There was basically 2 store interiors, the clerks almost always reacted the same, there was only a handful of enterable stores in the first place, you can't rob any store other than convienence store, you get wanted regardless if you kill the clerk or not, which brings me to the point that the stores never had people in them, which could have brought a lot of variety to the table on its' own. It just ended up being not that impressive. I want to want RDR2, but knowing how Rockstar shows stuff off, I'm just gonna wait and see what other people say before I buy it
I was gonna say "this take is bad" but then I thought about it.
GTA 3 whilst being a technically impressive game for the time (still beaten the fuck down by Jak & Daxter tho, a mere two months later with vastly more impressive level tech) was a bit of a mess story wise if I recall and the only lasting impact it had was the whole "its crime but you do it" coming back into fashion.
Vice City was a massive improvement that promptly loses all Steam for an excessive amount of time once you start the business management part of the story. Unsure exactly what they were going for here as it wants to be Scarface so badly but makes you do all the boring shit too.
San Andreas is again a massive improvement and a technically impressive game again, that once again loses all steam once CJ reaches "the top". The last parts of the game are just kinda shit until you're done with the gang war stuff.
IV tried to be a grounded and more relatable story. But has characters so unrelatable that I really didn't give that much of a fuck what went down. Sure the whole "you can never escape the life" thing Niko has going on is a departure for R*, a character genuinely trying to right his wrongs but being unable to is a bit different I suppose. But it's hard to care when the other characters are all fairly "eh".
Bully was kind of cool to be honest. Jimmy is a fairly unlikeable twerp but that is the point. But it's an incredibly bare bones story so it's hard to fuck that up.
RDR is probably the only R* game I've genuinely been invested in the characters with, game had my attention from start to finish and I almost didn't want to do any free roaming fuckery because I wanted to see how things go down. Every character was interesting in some way.
Thank you! I was so confused why people disagreed with this post.
Like, I love the open as much as anyone, but the stories have never been their strongest point, they've always been an excuse for the protagonist to keep moving up in the world and getting into more dangerous heists and missions and/or getting richer. (Maybe with the exception of GTAIV, maybe).
Like, next to a game with a real story, like the Last of Us or God of War or even something simple like Shadow of the Colossus, they have absolutely no vision or direction and are just a series of missions one after the other.
Red Dead Redemption is the solo exception, I think.
