Suffice to say, this feature was broken alongside the Help and Rules pages going out of action. Would be due to actual changes to the forum, but either went untested or something and it just went 💥 And garry hasn't been committing each directly to release anymore I assume. The entire website goes down when he does this. (Forums, Project pages). If I were to make a guess, Garry could also still be working on the Company page when he's not working on Tub. These pages look new, but I actually have no idea when they were added. It's a mistake to allow those threads in PD. It's for news, not isolated echo chambers. They should just all be moved to GD.

I don't like echo chambers either and while Facepunch is usually considered pretty left wing already, it really does feel more accurate to call it centre-left especially nowadays and even for example two different self-identified liberals can have a competently different perspective and opinion from one another here. It's too early to tell but ignoring the parody threads and jokey posts that spawned earlier, the leftychat currently is discussing a decently interesting topic with different sides of the argument despite being US-centric, on which is regarding gun rights and on the question why the left-wing/democratic platform so anti-gun despite the idea of left wing ideology kind of aligns with the second amendment and the idea of freedom, and how apparently it all gets muddied up on the moderate left and such regarding the platform. I mean as long as you aren't deliberately trolling or being rude, I don't think it's unreasonable for someone leaning in another direction of politics to enter that particular thread and present an argument and vice versa. I guess a general thread might be better but at the same time separation of it potentially does keep some things focused and organized on certain topics. Disagreements and agreements happen all the time within the same wing of politics, and I think being able to open up to that might eventually be able to segway into being more to hear the voice and ideas from a different aisle of politics. It doesn't seem too different in real life political parties, where within the same party they have votes and debates against each other, and when something is discussed properly, they'll be able to better present it with the opposing parties. It might only turn into an echo chamber if Facepunch starts employing something like r/The_Donald rules where you can't post anything not praising Trump and lock off your thread from the rest of the world.

The issue isn't the thread exists. It's that it exists in PD. Those are basically threads you'd see in the old Mass Debate section, which we got rid of for a reason. It later turned into the PD we have today, which functions much better than MD did. Polidicks is for breaking news on politics, and the discussion it brings. General Discussion is for general debate and discussion. These new threads belong in GD, and that's where they should be left to either wither away, or get trolled into Oblivion.

hate to say it but water is wet if you think that decent discussion can happen in a controversial thread involving all sides of the political spectrum you’re actually playing Russian roulette I’m a leftie for obvious reasons but I have no issues with discussing with the right but it’s when both sides use question dodging tactics, all bullshit no fact its not that it’s just an echo chamber its a fucking land mine of an echo chamber and making this post is an echo chamber in itself I don’t know how many times it’s been discussed but I’m fairly sure it’s been way too many and things have been sat idle about it rule problem? no attitude and a person problem? absolutely let people have their fucking echo chambers why does it need to bother you and ruin your own posting/participation? still running around chasing our own tails when we can just post our opinion and reply to those who have genuine interests and debates and ignore the idiots who shit threads up for days (hint lamb)

Currently the point of the remaining threads is to offer discussion on specific political spectrums. While some may argue those belong in GD, it's kind of silly to have an entire section of the forum dedicated to politics and have threads discussing politics in another section. PD, while still generally focused around political news, is at it's core a section on politics. As for people's concerns over these threads becoming echo Chambers, who cares? Facepunch as a whole has been called a liberal echo chamber on more than 1 occasion, and the fact that like minded people like to discuss things with other like-minded people is a part of being human. That doesn't mean that everyone agrees with everyone, and assuming that each of those threads does become an "echo chamber" you are still going to have people who disagree with one another and will argue politics within that side of the political spectrum. With that you still have the entirty of PD, which while I would say is still VERY left leaning is open to news and articles from all sides of the political spectrum. The whole point is to promote civil conversation amongst topics. Right now the majority of negative responses I'm seeing mimic a lot of what I saw when opinion pieces were allowed. A lot of people flipped thier lid, a good amount made shit posts and crap threads 'to prove a point", and at the end of the day somehow the forum was able to make it work. Let's not count our chickens until the eggs hatch, the potential for good conversations is here. The only thing that's really holding that back are the folks who decide to shit it up because "it's not going to work"

Request: Can you hide the locked threads from the "Latest threads" on the main page? For example fake news in Sensationalist Headlines usually get closed within an hour, but they remain on the front page for quite a while with no indication that the thread is closed. Another example that's happened a few times is I see a new thread, click on it, and turns out it's closed because it's a duplicate so I have to hunt for the original thread.
