wait what did i do
Don't you play innocent now young man!!
You're in BIG trouble
cuz it feels so empty without me
Unimportant question, what type of auth methods do the spam bots use to sign up with?
Nonsense. I'm not replying to your DMs because I don't want to upset you. If you really want to know why you're not going to become a mod again, just send me another message and I will tell you exactly why.
As previously stated I wasn't able / didn't have the time to get onto the forums. Nobody contacted me through the usual channels so as far as I knew it was business as usual.
Oh well then, I guess you should probably tell garry so he can amend my role.
With the exception of the CSS issue (which was unexpectedly caused by backend changes, the report of which was delayed due to how exceptionally busy I was in my other job), I report sentiment and issues promptly to garry. A lot of these issues are fixed, but only affect a few people, or not many people notice. It is garry's decision not to have a changelog. garry works on multiple projects and can't dedicate all of his time to the forums. You need to manage your expectations accordingly. I am not here to sugar coat what is going on; yes some things are broken. Yes, some features don't work.
This is what we have and what we are going to have for the near future. Things are happening behind the scenes, but I can't go into detail about it. The forums will continue to be worked on, but probably not as much and not as fast as you all would like. This will not change any time soon.
The way forward is through cooperation. If there is an issue, I would rather have a hundred Discord messages rather than none, which is coincidentally how many I received over the two weeks that the CSS was broken. I have repeatedly told you all how to go about contacting me; throwing up your arms up in outrage and being angry about the fact I use Discord is not helpful in the slightest. If you really do want to help the forums, it's not a great effort to log on to Discord and send a quick message.
My job isn't to be a punching bag for manchildren on an internet forum who cannot behave in a civil and constructive manner.
your job is to manage the community and you have 100% failed at that job and are consistently missing why people are upset with you. its not logical to contact you offsite, and its not logical for you to not even get a message passed along that you couldn't access the forums easy and only goes to show why we need communication channels on the forums themselves.
not everyone uses discord and it's a third party application. we should not be expected to have to use a third party application to report issues with the forums themselves.
These bans aren't a very good look for you, Hezzy. You should understand why people are frustrated, and it seems to me that you do, but if you act on your annoyance like this it's not gonna get us anywhere. Lighthearted sass shouldn't be ban-worthy.
Apologize if this is late; I'm sure it's been brought up but in my skim through this page I haven't seen it. My alerts are only working on Mobile, not desktop. Others with this issue?
It's the difference between Hezzy saying "okay, thanks for the bug report, passed along to Garry" and having one person see it versus having everybody see it.
It also doesn't matter much, but my categorical brain takes issue with the {{Meta}} subforum not really being used for its intended purpose.

Maybe try clearing cache if you haven't already
While it is easy to make an account, you shouldn't need to. We really need DMs or at least the profile comment system back for this.
Could try that. Like, after you replied, all I saw was

Also, how did you get the dark theme working again? I used the instructions in the Dark Theme II thread made five days ago, but still haven't been able to get it to work.
I'm using the Stylus extension for chrome. If you want to use it, paste in
@import url('https://inaciogonzalesn.bitbucket.io/styles.css');
@import url('https://inaciogonzalesn.bitbucket.io/optionals/animRatings.css');
The second line is optional, it just makes ratings wiggle around in a cute way.
Bring MaxOfS2D back. He'll straighten this place out in a jiffy.
DMs would be a big help for all this. I sincerely doubt we'll ever get them, though.
Nah, bring back Mikfoz, so we can piss in a sea of piss again.
Ah, I've installed Stylus now. Alerts still broken on PC, though.
Just send emails to hezzy's company account
First one to guess the email gets a diamond

also there's a difference between sucking up to someone and trying to vacuum their intestines violently
We shouldn't have to do a lot of things, but we're working with what we got. Garry has the final say on everything, and we're trying to do things within what he's given us. The discord is supposed to be an alternative as we obviously don't have a built in DM system, and it is something that you can use in your browser without having to download a thing. Of course the transition to new forums could have been smoother, we were all in the same boat as you when it happened. I understand a lot of forum issues and problems aren't getting fixed as quickly as people would like, but that is neither in my or hezzys control.
The only reason this form still exists is because Garry wills it, try not to forget that.
Could have mentioned that before I had to get shitty with you. Lack of communication breads anger.
So it's okay for you to call people manchildren but it's not okay in the actual slightest to imply that you're stupid without fully spelling it out. It's not your job sure but manchildren. Really?
The issue isn't that we aren't getting something that we're inherently entitled to. The issue is that we aren't getting things that we were promised, and those things impact the basic usability of the forums and put their future into question. It's valid to worry about these things, I think.
I'm not saying it isn't, but it's also not good to berate the people who try to make this place function. Whatever promises were made are not entitlements, whatever features or functions that were said to be put in are all up to Garry. If you couldn't tell by now Garry doesn't give two shits about people who act like idiots over a website, and he is much less inclined to put effort into something that is going to have people act like idiots in.
This is his website, he can do whatever he wants with it. If he decided he's going to take longer he's going to take longer. If he says fuck it because of peoples attitudes he's going to say fuck it.
Hezzy brings Garry the issues, Hezzy is also a very busy man outside of the forum. He brings the information to Garry when he comes across it, and Garry fits it in when he can if he feels like it. There is no if's or why's or why not's. This is the way it is. If people can act civil then things tend to move a bit more smoothly, and so long as that stays the course than those changes will be made in time. It might not be quick enough for you, but like I said we're all in the same boat.
If it takes time it takes time, don't waste your energy on getting flustered over a website. Just bring the issues up, Hezzy will tell Garry, and just chill out for a while.
We aren't disagreeing on anything, just to be super clear.
Well, I did say first to guess, not first to guess correctly 😒
In hind sight I could have worded that better, that was meant to be more of a generalized statement than something focused at you. I apologize for not making that more clear.
In past posts about the rules, this is the conclusion you gave to us. Don't give a snarky answer to it when I point it out, and it's your own conclusion.
However, I do totally agree with you that your role needs to be amended.
The first thing I want to hit on here is that you need to stop using your other job as an excuse for failing to keep up with this one. I said it before in a prior response to you, and it still stands. You are paid to do this job, as such every expectation that goes with being paid to do something applies here. It is not a volunteer position. You don't deserve leniency for working two jobs. Imagine if you failed to keep up with your other job because Facepunch required too much time. You wouldn't get a pat on the back, you would get replaced with someone who can do the job at 100%.
Secondly, we know you report issues to garry. You, we, I, us, have all acknowledged that. We aren't blaming you for issues not getting fixed. You are being blamed for failing to handle the inevitable community backlash of those fixes not being communicated with any kind of due diligence.
Issues being fixed weeks and months after they are brought to light is not a cause for applause. The forums are a secondary side project at best, and this is where the reactions are founded from. A new forum was thrust on everyone after what everyone recognized was not enough testing. Subsequent development on that new forum came to all but a halt, and the users were left floating without a paddle. Then people get berated as "manchildren" for being angry about it? Surely you see the hypocrisy in that.
The changelog was removed because, as you said, "this is what we have and what we are going to have for the near future". What we have is a lack of development effort, and it is clear we will continue to have it. Removing the changelog is garry's, albeit shitty, way of trying to hide this fact. There is no other reason for removing a changelog.
No one cares about what is happening behind the scenes, or how top secret it is that you are barred from disclosing it to us. That's like preaching faith to an atheist. If the users can't see changes on the front end (and there is no changelog to backup the fact changes are happening) then, as far as the user is concerned, there is nothing happening. Compound this with the fact that you claim things are happening behind the scenes, but there are still bugs that have been outstanding for months, that means not only is development extremely hamstrung, the development efforts are severely misplaced.
Development is slow, efforts are misdirected, garry fails at delegating, the users of products are upset for being ignored, your job gets harder. This will not change any time soon.
Quite honestly, the cooperation phase you want has passed. Should it be something that is continuous? Yeah. Is it realistic and unexpected that it has stopped? Not at all.
Expecting users to use a line of communication, outside of the forum, to discuss the forum is stupid. It doesn't matter if it's a 3 step process or a 1 step process. This is the "meta" section of the forum, specifically designed to talk about the forum. It isn't for "Hey, post your concerns here, then message me those same concerns on Discord". Post concerns in the forums, where the forum manager (you) will read them and respond, so others can see it.
If you want to help the forums, don't make users jump through more hoops.
Actually, again, quite frankly, it is. You are garry's buffer between him and the forums. You take the heat for him, you relay sentiments to him, you relay bugs to him. That means you take his punches. Shitty? Yeah. But that's part of what you are paid to do.
With all that said, you aren't the (sole) reason the forums are in the state they are in. That lies on garry and his inability to get help with development, deal with negative feedback, and lack of multitasking. Your handling of the community as a result of that has not be the best. You are frequently gone for days at a time, your replies leave much to be desired at times, and when they don't you are prone to go off the edge. We're on Forum Discussion thread #5, and it isn't because of arbitrary post counts.
I (and others) don't want to fight you or hate you, we want to see you do better, and therefore the forums do better. But to be fair, you aren't helping facilitate that, and more so, neither is garry.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
