Forum Discussion V. "Where's the Forum Discussion thread"

Just make the software open source for fucks sake
garry doesnt want anyone else to develop the forums for some reason, if he doesnt have the time to dediate to it then i dont understand why he insists on it
Alright who nuked its account and filled my subscriptions with ghost pages
foss solves all problems
i don't get it how reddit does it that way then? can't people still reply and do the same thing on there? or am i missing something?
Someone got banned for this: D.Va Appreciation thread.
Other people were doing the same type thing earlier in the thread and didn't get banned.
But it's still a pretty funny thing to get banned for.
I mean, it shouldn't be that bad.
Let's say @myon here with their 30k posts wants to bin the account and take everything to the grave.
But, it's not like they have only posted once on 30000 threads! So you can start cutting off bit by bit from that number. Their 10 most-posted topics, as noted by the search feature, have 3.3k posts summed -- In other words, 10% of it is just 10 thread IDs that you have to mark for recounting.
Naturally, the remaining 90% will increase that number (a single post in a funny thread in SH is still one more thread to recount). We're left with... idk, 10? 15? 20? thousand thread IDs?? I don't know, and I don't care too much, because:
You could queue by order of importance which threads get recounted, and which can wait a bit more, in order not to overload the server, simply by sorting by something like descending thread number, or last post's date.
A thread that has a last poster 10 minutes ago is very important to recount, since it will be on the top of the sub/forum and notifications, and thus will be likely to be clicked on very soon. A post made in a thread in the 4th page? Not so much. Closed, 6 year old threads, which will only be seen by the odd person searching them every once in a full moon? Could take even days to recount and nobody would bat an eye.
You'd need to fine-tune some numbers (given resources, time between recounts, how many threads per time, etc.) and it varies too much to give a fair example. I'm tried to setup a mock-up in a VM to give some numbers and further my point, but it's going to take forever to fill and idk if it's comparable with the Azure servers FP uses, soooo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It seems like a really simple solution, which is why I find it weird it's sticking for so long. (I'd love to hear if I forgot something or misestimated any process, making the solution unfeasible)
if this forum ever goes down again for morer than 5 minutes im literally hanging myself
I think garry updated the forums, I noticed some changes, but they're not even there anymore.
Merge probably failed and reverted it
Just occured to me that the next wickedplayer of this forum will probably just delete his account in shame, so in the future we'll see even fewer legendarily stupid posts
there's always archival sites like the wayback machine if you save the thread in time at least
GDPR was a mistake
GDPR is ok i just wish most of the changes made by websites weren't half-assed
What did he do here other than that post he got banned for?
I think it's just remembered because of all the mods that banned him at once.
I'm pretty certain I have seen worse posts, like much worse in comparison..
He's a self-entitled cunt in general, he wasn't banned for that post in isolation. Not by a long shot
I know he moderates a bunch of subreddits for valve games. I don't remember anything else about him..
threadjacking will not be tolerated
he'd flip his shit if someone else posted valve related news on reddit before he did
Is that related to facepunch though?
He acted like an idiot pretty consistently on FP too, I just can't really pick anything specific out of my memory because I never really frequented the Valve threads. But he was a consistent idiot in Oldpunch SH as well.
And his did strikes where he refused to post on certain subreddits
https://twitter.com/wickedplayer494/status/867402324335001601
This strike lasted less than 24 hours, mind you, since somebody else immediately proved that hey. Posting patch notes to Reddit is not that hard and anybody can do it.
he carried the same attitude over here
and to be fair his final post was SO FUCKING BAD that it warrants a perma on its own
How many reports does it take for moderators to be notified? I know it used to be two or three on oldpunch.
Are we going to get proper News Node and PCGamer back because I actually enjoyed reading some of their articles from here and am too lazy and forgetful to actually go on their website.
just the one
How hard is it to add popular threads?
Thanks for Donations @Elv02 @Game Zombie @Shallaska
Now I can rename myself again
They did, or rather reverted to their original name because this happened
