TLJ pissed a lot of people off so I understand the sudden amount of hate. At least the prequels George had a plan - and the films are fun to watch bad as they are (except Episode 3, one of the best in the series imo).
Rian Johnson fucked it up for everyone
How about instead of ruining just one thing, we ruin everything? After all, we are all destined to die on this shitty rock we call home, so why not destroy ourselves by denying everyone everything that can considered good through outrage, toxicity and abuse.
The prequels are and will always be unadulterated garbage - that includes Episode 3. They had good ideas that were completely squandered in execution, with the art design and the soundtrack being the only saving graces. And his plan for the sequel trilogy sounds like the literal worst thing ever: taking one of the absolute most hated retcons of the prequels (microbes being central to the Force) and making it the star.
I guess we should never criticize anything and just eat shit and die right?
Disney literally erased the significance of 30 years of extra material (good or bad) and has done a piss poor job at executing any of their original new ideas, so of course people have a right to be furious. Especially at the corporate, mechanized behemoth that is Disney, which only cares about fans if they are braindead loyalists opening their wallets to buy Chewbacca plushies at every opportunity.
Disney's principles by design are to churn out "classic" watered-down, easily digestible and formulaic approaches to the hero's journey over and over again. The prequels weren't very good, but would Disney have had the balls to try even half of the plotlines and ideas in those movies? The ideas behind Star Wars are derivative, sure, but it was an extremely fresh and revered blend of all that came before led with a strong creative vision.
Contrary to popular belief, shit does not always get better. Sometimes it gets worse, and if no one says or does anything, it gets even worse. All of us are keyboard warriors, but at least some of us are trying to have things changed for the better. I can't stand the attitude that we should take shit up the ass and give up.
LucasFilm*. It wasn't Disney's idea.
I think it really is a cash grab for them, the movies still fill enough seats and that's all that Disney has the rights for. If these movies came out every 2-3 years and had a lot more time on the drawing board they probably would be very good, but it's just a bunch of rushed work that takes place in a high-jacked star wars universe. But it's Star Wars and it's high budget, so it turns a profit.
I think they have the full intention to just nosedive the series for money until they crash that shit into the ground. It's sort of like the call of duty or battlefield franchise, it's an effective money-making strategy but eventually you will destroy your artistic credibility, and eventually even the lowest common denominator will not buy/see your stuff, and then they move onto the next thing.
George's ideas before he sold Disney were also ignoring all the EU that came after ROTJ. So even if Disney hadn't come along it would have been wiped.
We're in a lose-lose situation here regarding post ROTJ films.
the people look like they are from a rock auto commercial

COsidering how much stock content they're using for the actual animating and tweening, yes, they would look like stock assets being used in a stock manner.
Episode 3 was the worst prequel.
Also, it seems like people are actually just getting burnt out of large scale blockbuster films in general because the market is massively oversaturated right now. I mean Disney did just recently decide [Infinity War spoilers] to release half a movie just to make sure they keep up accelerating their already breakneck pace of spamming out as many films as possible, and Disney is by no means alone in that regard. There's a finite amount of money and time people are willing and able to budget for movies, and Disney is currently facing stiff competition not only from their actual competition, but also from their own other franchises for that time and money.
Disney's massive pull out on videogames and wiping the extended universe is also a factor I think. You can keep a constant presence without burning people out if you release different types of media.
A Star Wars fan who loves the films an wants more could buy Star Wars Battlefront and ignore Kotor if RPGs weren't their thing. Or you could read the expanded universe books which barely relate to the films aside from sharing a universe. These days it's just bam, bam, bam. Episode 7, spin-off prequel, Episode 8, Han Solo prequel.
Fucking give people a chance to relax. Marvel gets away with it because the different films are different genres and you don't have to see them all (and even then there are people who are sick of them), but when every film is space fantasy it wears you down.
I dunno it became kind of obvious after TFA that disney were just going to churn out lazy star wars content and kill the franchise pretty quickly.
Part of Star Wars' draw was that a new movie was rare
It was an event of significance
Yearly releases took this aspect and strangled it in a backalley. Our corporate overlords do not care for the value of waiting for something we want.
