I just do it because it's cheap, convenient and easier than pirating. If the industry gets so little of the money why do they agree to have their shows on CR then?
Because a little bit of extra money is better than none.
If anything pirating is even cheaper (free) more convinent (don't have to rely on internet + get to keep it forever). The only reason I can see it being any easier if you're aren't familiar with torrenting or just don't know anywhere, in that case just you can just spend 10 seconds googling and avoid [HS] since they're just CR rips.
Why does this feel like a Little Witch bootleg
i am of the opinion that fansubbers should be supported at all costs but avoiding horriblesubs is practically impossible nowadays. there are many (mostly airing) series that ONLY have HS releases because people grab whatever the first release is and fansubbers simply can't keep up with HS ripping official subs from CR simulcasts. a lot of the new fansub groups nowadays are just practically editors of HS subs anyway. it's a pretty feelsbadman situation.
This looks nothing like CalArts. You guys are fucking blind
Her headshape is super common in anime artstyles, also the other designs looks way more anime which helps solidify the shape to look more anime

i'm gonna play devils avacado and think this looks ok if you're into that thing. I wouldn't personally watch it but as if 99% of most actual anime isn't boring bland bullshit. I think it's only more offensive to us because the inspirations they're using for their character designs is much more apparent as the culture is more familiar to us.
granted i dont think it looking bland excuses it and it is pretty funny how it fits the stereotype to a T but meh, leave it to rot and forget, it doesn't deserve that much hate imo.
Good one bozo but half the style is the fuckin' bean mouth that is permanently open and stretches across most of the lower tumor that makes up the head.

Also there's a big difference between old-ass anime styles like that and more contemporary ones.
You're also completely ignoring eye shapes, hair and body proportions that make up the calarts artstyle.
This looks way closer to what an old kids anime would look like
This doesn't look that terrible? I probably won't watch this, but there's way worse shit out there, no idea why people are so mad about this
https://thechuunicorner.files.wordpress.com/2018/02/8olgp9a.png
Does this count as contemporary style?
The problem is half of the images shown are drawn one way and half are drawn a different way.

This girl would not look out of place if she was warbling at steven universe himself if it wasn't for her somewhat out of place starry eyes and her general level of clothing detail. Totally not-madoka has wrong proporitons, I'll grant you that, but her head and grin is stereotypical calarts as hell.
Then you look at this brooding schmuck with a completely different body build, lanky proportions, razor-sharp chin and all around "pointyness" and, well, obviously he's not calarts.
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/109677/6f07ec85-e80f-4dd3-812d-58fc26b81b8f/image.png
Then you've got fauxhawk girl who is an odd mix? She has the extremely trunklike legs and bean-head and yet her proportions suggest she's supposed to be about broodboy's size??
And the only way I can describe that knife-eared girl is that someone tried to draw her sexily but didn't actually want to draw her sexily? And she doesn't fit the calarts meme either.
I don't see how having different shapes is that much of a problem.
The guys at Trigger have a bunch of fucking weird shapes going on with their characters that are distinctly not standard anime.
It's good that they're trying to actually incorporate different shapes instead of having the same thing over and over again because thats a problem with a lot of anime artists.
I do get that there's a pretty good chance some of these designs would clash with each other but depends on how the actual thing looks in motion.
I realize you're being completely disingenuous but it's quite the departure to grab one keyframe of a yelling girl that typically looks more like this

With something that always looks like, oh, these:

I'm not saying that LWA looks like a 'CalArts' cartoon, I'm saying this show looks more like LWA but with a western spin.
Are "let's show our """"""""diverse""""""""" team of creators" trailers going to be a thing now?
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/246855/f4aaa1e5-feda-4d12-9538-de3a40f8b802/image.png
Not gonna lie, it looks like as if the girl on the right is draining the life force of the girl on the left
Since when are women "unheard voices" in cartoons?? I feel like every artist I follow in Twitter that works in animation is female .
because brownie points for being a super progressive diverse industry
why u have to be mad at some unreleased cartoon
and why even care of it is "CalArts", both Gravity Falls and Steven Universe are Amazing (World of Gumball).
Ah yes, having a company made primarily of people from the same social strata, race, gender, and location are hallmarks of a diverse hiring structure. God bless those middle class, white, San Franciscan women.
I feel that people is angry because Crunchyroll funnels money to this thing instead of develop a better video player or make the mobile app functional (The actual one is a big pile of shit).
About the artstyle, is because it feels "cheap" thanks to be basically used by 90% of western cartoons in recent years (Obviously there are exceptions).
With generic maybe High (or stereotypical) Fantasy setting instead.
While both shows you mentioned used clearly Scientific technology as part of plot, lore and setting for shows give both them pass.
If you don't mind I'd just like to interject and point out that calling that cheap rushiob style calarts is ludicrous to begin with. Why name something after something completely unrelated?
Also I really don't think they could have gone with any Western animation style and pleased people since their whole shtick is they're an anime service, not going for an anime style is a mistake.
"We're gonna do an anime!" say western people who can't do anime.
"Oops, it turned into Tumblr. Oh well, let's just pretend it's anime."
