If you don't want to watch the video, the main combat gimmick is basically poise breaking the enemy to deliver a wounding or fatal strike. The meter at the top center of the screen is the enemy poise, the one at the bottom is yours. It's less about whittling down a health pool, and more about breaking their guard to perform these wounding strikes. You can see how many it takes by the diamond above the enemy health bar. It's called the posture system. The main part of combat is break the enemy posture, then deliver a fatal strike. You can dodge, block, roll, or run all you want, as there is no stamina to manage. Instead, you need to avoid having your own posture broken.
It doesn't sound very fun to spend fights banging on an enemy's block until they eventually let you get a couple of hits in.
I think the combat looks fine, but it's gonna need a bit more to keep players interested.
I like the idea of the posture system, but the fatal blow animation looks like it'll get old really fast
I hadn't paid much attention to this game but it looks like tenchu combined with souls mechanics, it doesn't look bad at all.
Here's a good breakdown from Max. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHQq97X9XGI And easy allies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p27Fh-se60U
It's good to know that the Souls sound designer will never be out of a job at From.
