Firearms XVII - Stuffing A $100 Hi-Point Down the Front of My Jorts Edition

My gunsmith rates are fucking ridiculous, I'd expect to pay $150 or more.
is that thing CHF?
So who in the thread nuked their account?
Flecktyphus/prusselusken
That happened ages back. Someone nuked themselves in the last few hours.
So the only gunsmith that can work on AKs within distance of me said they won't work on my Saiga if the bullet guide is welded...
Yes, it's an imported barrel.
I don't have the rifle yet but from what I have seen and read they come with one welded in. We'll see, I hope it's not. Either way I may go somewhere else, they might specialize in AK's but that doesn't mean someone can do what i'm looking for. It's not like i'm doing the receiver conversion, that's the real painful part.
Oh btw, i'm looking myself at the moment but is anyone able to find a 90 degree gas block in stock anywhere? I can't find one. Atleast i'm pretty sure I need a new one, the AK smith told me that anyway.
Generally they don't come with a bullet guide, and they'd rivet them from the factory if they did.
Cheaper gas block, but you'd need it refinished: Bulgarian AK
Generally you remove the barrel to populate it, it's easier to put it in a press or lathe to do the work without risking damage to the receiver.
As for the bullet guide stock Saigas don't have them, and instead use the magazine to perform that function. When people convert them over to AK mags you have to install a bullet guide, which like MAC said is usually riveted in place although some gunsmiths will weld them in as it's easier.
Your gun smith wants to do it the "right" way, which is pull the barrel from the gun, mount it up in a lath, and thread it from there. That technically is the best way to do it, as it allows you to ensure the threads are concentric to the bore, but there's other ways of doing that as well. He could just as easily mount the rifle in a fixture and put the tap into the lath instead and do the same thing more or less.
Ah ok, that makes sense. The smith I was talking to funny enough was Billy Cho from Rifle Dynamics, he runs a gun store and smithing place an hour and a half away from me. I at first couldn't believe he was telling me this but now it all makes sense.
Btw, since mine is the half conversion that takes normal 74 mags does that mean that mine likely came with a riveted BG?
It should have assuming whoever did the conversion is worth their salt. I've seen partial conversions that didn't have the bullet guide in them, but that's easy enough for a competent gunsmith to fix.

"Integrally Surprised"
At least they're still out there. Even if I'll never afford one.
My FFL emailed me this morning to go get my suppressor. 213 days between cashing the check and approving it!

Running it with a tri-lug adapter?
Yeah. I think I'm gonna buy the newer model adapter, though. Shorter length, and this one I've already almost gotten stuck on the can because it's a two-piece setup and I managed to unthread the outer half.
The barrel itself has a tri-lug on it, not an adapter.
Hello there, never posted in this thread before. I love guns, but I've never fired one in my entire life. I'd love to but I doubt that my parents would be very happy at the thought of especially me fondling with a gun. In that case. Is ther any way to get into a gun range, and do they let you like borrow/renht guns for a day? Hell even better, is there any gun safety courses?
You can totally go to a local gun store/range and they will rent you a gun to shoot. They usually make sure you pass a short quiz to ensure you are competent.
Honestly there's not much to know in terms of safety other than the 4 basic rules. What you should be studying up on in addition is the "manual of arms" for a specific gun. If you have any favorite handguns (I say handguns because those are the most commonly rented guns) from a video game or movie whatever, look up videos on youtube of how to operate them. They all have buttons and stuff in different places and it's best if you know how to operate the specific gun when you go and rent it. All ranges are different, but if you just tell them this is your first time, chances are they will walk out with you, and supervise you and give advice (if it's not too busy that is).
Also:
You don't have to tell your parents (probably) unless you are under 18 (sometimes 21), in which case you would have to have an adult with you (but you could just find an adult friend probably).
State laws may differ however, in case you live in New York or California for example.
Thanks so much! I'm more of a rifle guy but with a rather small frame, so I Imagine I could ask about a Mini-14 or M1 Carbine.
That being said, I have handled guns before, at some sort of WW2 show. The renactors tent had an M1903, M1 Garand, and M1 Carbine. I tell ya, once I held that carbine, I would never put it down! I think that's some of the closest I've gotten to true love.
Also, keep in mind prices. Where I am at least, "range time" is ~$15/hr, rentals are $20/hr, and ammo can only be bought in store (~$10/box of 50 9mm rounds) (you will want more than one box, trust me).
Just for an idea of how much you would be paying
Thanks. I'm a rather frugal person, so I'll probably do it once I get a job, which, I'll be 18 by that point anyways.
You bought the conversion kit?
Get a manta cover for the suppressor, they work very well.
The customers are usually in their own lanes and stick to their selves at ranges. You don't really distract people while their shooting, while they're paying per hour. Plus window shopping is kind of frowned upon in general.
At the public/free range here people are more social and tend to mingle a bit more. But you're a fish out of water going to a range empty handed.
Whats the point of the drum sights on guns like the G3 and the MP5?
Sorry, what do you mean conversion kit?
I'll check out that cover. I'm shopping around for one right now, but am worried about my suppressor height sights on the Sig clearing them.
