Firearms XVII - Stuffing A $100 Hi-Point Down the Front of My Jorts Edition

Yeah, not sure what was going through their head thinking "assisting" police in chopping up guns was a good idea.
Beats the hell out of me the proper response would of been "fuck off there's a harbor freight down the street" instead they did this. The head of benchmades PR department better start polishing up that
resume
They prolly shouldn't have posted it. But, honestly while it sucks to see guns get destroyed I feel like the response only paints the gun community in a bad light.
People ignore the fact that the people who turned in the firearms expect what they turned into be destroyed. While I still think it is stupid as hell, everyone has the right to destroy their property. If they give it to someone to destroy the person should follow the agreement.
They were helping the police dept and I don't agree with gun buyback programs as they're mostly useless and PR moves at least they were helping on some official capacity. Better for the guns to get destroyed professionally rather then having another dumbass Karen Mallard make a SBR.
I feel like the overall response has been kinda shitty. In the end the guns were bound to be destroyed to begin with.
Yes the guns were bound to be destroyed (even that is iffy the post OCPD deleted made it sound as if some of these guns were from buybacks) benchmade could have turned this into a win by simply stating "We understand the law requires these guns to be destroyed, but we won't be involved in carrying it out." polite but to the point bada-bing bada-boom Benchmades PR head doesn't have to contemplate a long walk off a short pier. You also don't have a majority of your customer base whipping out the torches and pitchforks.
Instead they did this (and not to mention their less than stellar campaign contributions as of 2014...) and now every other knife company with half a brain are running buy 1 pitchfork get 1 free sales (here's looking at you SOG,HK, and Cold Steel you savage SOB's)
I dunno, the whole thing seems silly to me.
They didn't need to say anything - they should have just did what they did without publicity. Their contributions are really a non-factor to me, they amount is pretty small from what I understand.
I feel like it is outrage for the sake of outrage. To me it makes people look like snowflakes for getting pissed at benchmade over a few guns. If they were historial pieces or some type of highly sought after antiques I could begin to understand the outrage.
The guns were doomed anyway. Benchmade almost certainly builds the PD's knives, so maintaining that positive business relationship makes sense. It was an SKS and an 870, both of which were probably murder weapons or otherwise illegally altered. I take exception to turning it into a PR campaign and then it turns out that they've been backing grabbers all along? Lmao. I posted on bladeforums but I'll repeat it here.
Hey all.
I am a long time gun owner and as a prospective Benchmade customer would like to offer my 2c.
From the moment a civilian-owned firearm is discharged at another human being in the US it is typically doomed. Guns used in any crime - robbery, assault, murder, etc. - are destroyed once investigations and court proceedings have ended. Quite often, guns used in licit self defense also end up destroyed, either because it is state policy to destroy 'blooded' firearms or because the owner no longer wants a gun that reminds them of a grim scenario. This is standard fare, and it is also standard fare for local companies to help process these firearms. Particularly valuable, rare, or antique guns sometimes manage to survive this process - there's a lot of paperwork involved for a police department to not destroy a gun that's on the chopping block, and the guns shown in the PR photos are certainly not worth the trouble, especially considering that they may have any number of illegal alterations (most likely, serial numbers filed off).
So that's fine. It's unfortunate, because someone out there would certainly like to give these weapons a home (particularly, I imagine, that SKS), but it's standard fare and it's fine. I don't blame Benchmade for helping out their local law enforcement, especially considering they probably have a business relationship with them (tactical knives for officers). They're inanimate objects, not puppies, and there's plenty more out there.
I don't like that they tried to make it a PR move. They were clearly expecting to win points from the anti-gun crowd (I will refrain from using the terms left/liberals since not everyone on that side of the fence is actually anti-gun) without cost from the pro-gun crowd by capitalizing on the optics of destroying firearms. That's not great, but wouldn't put me off from buying a Benchmade knife.
What does put me off is their political donations. Quietly slipping cash, not just to democrats - because let's be honest, it's Oregon, they're gonna be democrats, that's fine, this country guarantees you the right to political opinions - but to staunchly, openly, and aggressively anti-gun democrats in Oregon and elsewhere while outwardly trying to appear pro-gun for sales purposes strikes me as very two-faced and dishonest. While I am forced to deal with a lot of two-faced, dishonest corporations from Microsoft to Colt due to a lack of options, in the knife world I have choices, and Benchmade isn't on the list. I will stick with my Kershaw.
If you aren't put off by this mess, fine by me. Your money, your right to spend it where you want.
Anyone here from around southwestern IN? Shooting alone is boring.
You think this is Tinder now, looking for someone to bang with?
Actually go on tinder looking for a shooting buddy lol.
basically this but with a radial-delayed blowback bolt on a colt magazine
so the operating mechanism seems like it kind of just yeets the round forward with a healthy kick and bounces it off the feed ramp, tossing the cartridge vaguely into the chamber area before the bolt slam dunks everything into place
how this thing manages to run reliably is beyond me
So, it's basically the CMMG banshee?
in the same sense that a hi-point c9 is basically a VP70, yes
I meant in that they're radially delayed blowback, but I have no idea what bolt your PCC is using, and I've only ever seen CMMGs design referred to as "radially delayed blowback".

!?!?
Also the other day I just realized the Fostech Reformation is basically The Patriot from MG3 because it’s a short range “firearm” designed to keyhole
I'm amazed that thing cycles. I wouldn't expect there'd be enough pressure to force any meaningful amount into the gas tube.
Picked up my first FAL here a couple days ago.

Old? I don't know.
I bought a Marlin 795 today and put ~150 rounds through it.
Thinking of getting rid of my lever-action shotgun. I hardly shoot it and don't really enjoy using it. The lever is hard on your hands and if you don't cycle it fast the shells don't load properly.
Can't you polish the action?
Any thoughts about a 92s for carry? I prefer full size handguns and don't have any 9s. Classic has police trade ins for $300.
I don't see anything wrong with them, most people said they love them. Only issue some people have with them is the european style mag release. But it isn't really that big of a deal, I use a P64 with a the release on the bottom of the mag well. It isn't detrimental as people make it out to be.
I think the only issue with them is really the fact the sights are kinda shitty and you cannot change them out.
If you are not hurting for one maybe keep an eye out on gunbroker. I got a brand spanking new 92fs for little over 400. That is the only reason I didn't get the trade-ins because for 100 bucks I got regular magazine release, new gun, plus magazines, case, and some extra goodies.
Classic also has those trade in 92s for 270 on sale all the time. I would wait and see if they go on sale again. I've seen them go on sale at least 4-5 times already.
A bit large, but not impossible. You might want to change the locking wedge and train with the different mag button near the heel. Otherwise, it can still compete with other full metal wonder 9s.
I don't find heel releases awkward at all, but I've played a lot with my heel guns. It's perfectly natural for me.
get a jericho compact, they're full steel like a 92 but smaller and cooler
more expensive though but I've got a full size 941 and love it to bits
If you get the trade-in 92 just be aware that certain magazines only work with it. The magazines that work with it have to have certain notches/cuts.

If it doesn't have the bottom notch I don't believe the magazine will work correctly from what I was looking at in the past.
