maybe i'll take the locking block out and just machine a corresponding frame rail piece out of not 60/40-lead-solder-zamak-turkish-roadside-tin-can the warranty is long gone and i bought it off a pawn shop, it was marked down to 1 hi-point because the sights looked like the previous owner tried to redo them with a paint roller still more reliable than my LCP II though
The New South Wales government has introduced new laws requiring the Lighgow Small Arms Museum, the museum that houses basically every military prototype firearm developed in Australia, to deactivate all their semi-auto and automatic firearms. Obscene. I hope the museum packs up and moves interstate rather than destroys their collection if bids to stop this fails. There's a petition, I'm not sure how much good it will do for international signatures though.
Need some recommendations on some things. Car carry options - Something that sits by the seat or a good magnetic option. Bed safes / portable gun safe. I need something that can go under my bed and lock up effectively. It also needs to be unable to be opened with traditional tools ( Drill gun, screwdriver, etc. ) and maybe with active monitoring that will let me know when someone is messing with it? Car mounting options for rifles/shotguns, kinda like a police car but SECURE, I've seen those shitty ratchet mechanisms fail easily. I drive a 2009 Jeep patriot so keep that in mind.
Any subcompact should work or whatever gun you like to carry. I don't know of any safes that have activity monitoring. You're not going to get a super reliable safe that fits under a bed. If anything fits that criteria it is going to be a gun locker, which is typically less secure then a gun safe. Gun racks for transport are for just that - transport. They're not effective means of securing any type of firearm. Unless you are living out in the middle of bum-fuck nowhere I would highly discourage you from trying to get a gun-rack and using it. Having a gun-rack in your car is just going to make you a target for theft and vandalism.
Apologies, I meant mounting options. Not the gun in question A gun locker would be okay, again it kinda just needs to be semi-secure and monitor activity. My girlfriend is Bi-polar and I just don't want her to have access if I ever leave it at home. Are there any products designed to fit in the trunk of SUV's to conceal the weapon? It doesn't need to be on display but i just want something semi easy to get to. AKA Flip down the back seat, pull a hatch open and bam, weapon ready.
Car carry: on your person Bed/portable gun safe: Portable gun safes are easily defeated, biometrics are not reliable, if you need to put your gun in a safe, get a real safe and bolt it down; if you need the gun, put it in or on your bedside drawer, or look into furniture made for concealment. IMHO, I would keep the gun on your person or in a full size safe when off your person, unless it's your "bedside gun", in which case it should be as accessible as possible during that time with whatever level of secrecy you deem necessary. If you want monitoring on your safe, get a Ring motion sensor camera that connects to your phone. Car mounting options: Get expensive quickly; I have seen a center console mount for rifles that was secure. For SUV's you can generally get drawers that fit in the cargo area - they are again more like gun-lockers and not safes. But, you are getting into a real expensive niche area. Usually you have to retrofit them into the car. Honestly, if you find yourself in a shitty situation and need a long-rifle or shotgun it's likely going to be to late to actually go to the back and get the firearm. I would seriously just stick with a handgun and a mounting options such as console safes or magnets. In this case - less is more. No disrespect, but you're not a cop and you're not going to need a long-rifle for defense purposes if you are on the go. Save the rifle for at-home use and keep it secure in a good safe. A good safe will be cheaper and safer than what you want to do. If you are truly that worried about a gun being around your GF I wouldn't even keep a gun in the house. I have the feeling you want car transport/storage options because of your gf. Seriously, just get a good safe and be done with it. You're more of a liability with a car packed with rifles, specially if you leave it unattended for a period of time.
Yeah the main reason is the girlfriend, I may just have to go with a safe all in all. I wanna be able to protect her by any means but I also have to worry about protecting her from herself, it's quite a fucking struggle honestly..
one thing i never figured out: how are you supposed to draw in a car if i'm carrying appendix my gun is wedged firmly under my shirt tucked underneath the seat belt and if i'm carrying 4 o' clock it's lost to the Ass Zone beneath the lumbar support it seems hard to draw without unbuckling the seat belt or shuffling around awkwardly with clothing layers which is not something I want to do with a loaded chamber and no manual safety for car carry i just eventually settled on putting the shartsilmaz under an adhesive velcro canvas flap in the door card
I typically just throw the gun in my center console when I'm actually driving. You're right - there really is no way to draw easily when you're in your seat. I know some people do the magnet/velcro method and have it under the steering wheel area or something like that.
Get a good safe, keep your stuff secure. Tractor supply has some nice ones for sale usually and they don't break the bank. Winchester TS Only thing I don't like is the pin-pad, but it isn't that big of a deal. A small pistol safe can easily be installed into a car and mounted properly for pistol storage. Plus it is way easier to hide vs a long-rifle. Gun mount magnet and adhesive tape are your friend. Only people who might be able to draw better in their cars is cops or people who wear duty belts.
Goodbye New Zealand gun laws I used to point to.
I don't know what is going on anymore, like holy shit. Did they at least find him?
Hes dead
He's either dead or in custody.
@Unclejimmema you work for a gun store or company of some kind. Got any hands/opinions on Steyr handguns? I'm thinking of picking up the new A2 MF when it properly hits the market.
I've always really liked the Steyr M9, the ergonomics felt good and I love their take on iron sights. Never got one personally but if the price were right I'd pick one up. Anything made by Steyr is solid, until I get my hands on the new one though I won't have an opinion on it.
Would you happen to have info on when it'll be coming to market? There was a shotshow 2019 video where the guy asked and the Steyr rep answered him but his answer is completely garbled and the youtuber didn't repeat it or anything. I'm assuming here in the next few months from what I can gather reading on it and such. But if it's not until like, late summer or something I'll probably just look at picking up the A1 and get an A2 later.
Your guess is as good as mine. They only company I've ever been able to rely on release dates has been Ruger. Everyone else says stuff and the time comes and there's nothing.
[SHOT 2019] NEW Steyr A2 MF (Modular Frame) 9mm Pistol Rep says 2nd quarter of 2019
I decided to save up a little cash and now I'm looking for something that'd be a good defense weapon but also has decent plinking/fun capability, not too concerned with being able to carry. So far I've been looking at some cheap 9mms, mainly the Sccy cx2, few kel tecs, and some Makarovs. I'm also open to pump shotguns, a classic wood furniture pump gun like an Ithaca for under $300 would likely be an insta-buy.
Everyone likes to shit on them, but I really like the Taurus Pt111 G2, or what they call the G2C now days. Only taurus I've seen where I've never had to send one back for warranty work out of the box, and the only warranties ive done to them have been user error. They're decent sized, hold 12rds in the mag, fit fairly well, and usually sell for $200-$250 or so. It's the only Taurus I can honestly recommend.
How's the trigger on the pt111? I ask because my dad owns a Taurus something in .45 and the trigger creep is pretty noticable.
I mean you get what you pay for, but the single action I'd rate better than a SD9VE. Double action is kind of whatever, but most are. Honestly if you want a better trigger pull buy a Canik TP9SF for $359.99.
I was going to recommend an SD9VE or Canik TP9SF.
Does anyone own one of those Spanish M1916 .308 mausers? There is one at my LGS for 200. Seems to be in pretty nice shape. Debating if its worth it or not.
If the bore's good and it's safe to fire, I'd jump on that for $200 That's just me tho.
They're fine rifles, nothing else really to be said about them. Check the bore, make sure it's not a total rust bucket.
I own one of them, they certainly fire .308 and the bore of mine is still fairly good. It's just that the variety of .308 that they were chambered for was 7.62x51 cetme, so some rifles don't play nice with NATO loads. The bolt on mine locks up after a round. If you get it, be mindful about the ammunition you put through it.
7.62 NATO *shouldn't* be a problem with Spanish bolt actions. That was more of a thing with the original CETME rifles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Njddshr3n8
