I always took it as he was mad that the borg fucked him.
Which is honestly more development than the show actually gave to it.
I said the story, not the writing. The basic premise of it.
I, for one, agree with Mike 100%.
Picard was the last person to warm up to Hugh, in the episode he says he avoided meeting him so he wouldn't feel bad about using him as a weapon.
I know, it's a lot more nuanced then what happens in the movie.
TNG was also heavily serialized, so they really couldn't do major character changes like that.
Star Trek films tend to be more operatic and character-focused, while the series generally take the opportunity to be more nuanced. I know First Contact bugs Mike and Rich, but it's generally my favorite Star Trek movie. Generations picked the wrong theme to focus on and shouldn't have bolted on another "passing of the torch." It's a bloated mess, but the production value is awesome. I hated Insurrection the last time I saw it, whereas before I generally liked it. And Nemesis really doesn't do anything right.
I love Mike's vanilla take on a new Picard series. I think that's what Star Trek needs, but I doubt we'll get anything "classical" from the show aside from the setting.
Whoever came up with the Borg queen needs a strong talking to. That shit was beyond bad and destroyed all the mystique behind the borg. Voyager didn't help matters either.
