When I built my new computer a year ago my power supply didn’t come with a long enough set of cables to properly route them through and behind my case. Drives me fucking bonkers.
Here's a comparison of different methods.
It doesn't look like any of them cause serious issues, but then again they didn't test the horror that Verge was up to.
I got one of those octopus nightmare power supplies. The cable for the CPU is just long enough to reach around my graphics card, it'll go in no other way. Those two things make my PC look like it was put together by a moron (which to be fair, it was).
Am I the only one wondering why is he even worried about static electricity from fresh factory components? Or am I thinking about residual electricity?
Static electricity is built up from rubbing your feet against the carpet, for example. You're thinking of electricity in the capacitors, which of course is long gone even in the power supply.
Ram isn't even seated properly, it isn't in the right channels....
My point is further proven. A professional victim. Must be new at it though, normally they can hide it better before they go full crybaby.
I believe a single "decent" sized droplet of paste is fine.
Just apply it in the middle of the surface, and push the heatsink on it which will spread it as evenly as it needs. You could tidy up from the sides if it squeezes out but it's no problem really.
It's what I did. :-x And it works fine with good temps.
I can almost install everything but CPU, heatsinks and watercooling gives me the willies.
Just when I figured PC building couldn't get easier, like I'm genuinely impressed that someone somehow found a way to fuck it up.
Like I mean retard builds for giggles are one thing, I've taken old pc parts and tortured them to see if they'll run in apocalyptic situations (You'd be surprised what you can get away with) but actually trying to build something with a set goal of it being awesome and fucking it up every step of the way, well then.
The sound a brand new board makes when you lower the CPU mounting arm is still gut wrenching.

Bit of an extreme example but the result is pretty surprising, might cause issues in the future if it gets too dusty but other than aesthetics cable management isn't as important as people think it is
Is everyone just ignoring the fact that he referred to zip-ties as "tweezers"?
I actually fucking screamed when he applied thermal paste
People in a position of power to inform others, should be accountable for misinformation they spread.

guys everything you said he did wrong he actually did right, they just didnt have time to reshoot it lol.

Sure it is.
I really need to learn cable management. I currently have a wire just resting on the cpu cooler

Most new PSUs seem to have gone this route.

what I learned from other people's comments.
From science studio I learned the chief at verge said on twitter "tech youtubers are not journalists" last month. 10 mins in.
From Bitwit, so much was wrong that you miss things on first look.
The video has been pulled down.
From the written article:
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this article included a video guide detailing similar steps on how to build a PC. Unfortunately, that video included a number of errors in the build process, and as a result we have removed it from this article. We have also updated this article to improve the order of the steps in the process.
"this just in: people are unable to criticize more than one thing at a time"
I mean that was probably shot right after the video. The guy should just shut up and be forgotten about, but this picture doesn't prove anything about him fixing it himself or not.
Here's a slightly more elaborative editorial statement:

LOL @ 70% of the message implying it was all because of racists.
