As someone who has lived in the US all their life anyone who defends Fahrenheit is blatantly ignorant. Not a day goes by where the US's measurements and dating formats don't annoy me.
Wait until you have to do some thermodynamics. You will find newfound hatred of the imperial system of measurement.
I love that even through bad graphs to make the metric system look bad, you can still tell how fuckin' great it is. Everything is 3048 with the decimal point moved about a bit.
I mean Christ, you can buy one of these bastards for a couple hundred pounds and just put the fucking thing in storage! it can easily cover an entire lecture hall's worth of space with just one unit. maybe you wheel it out twice, three times a summer, but at least you've got something on hand! the culture of complacency around the deaths of elders and other vulnerable groups is really fucking disgusting, and all because you won't spend a tiny bit of money on an air-con unit.

k i'll just pull £900 out of my broke ass to pay for AC and get it installed in my house that I don't own that might get denied permission to be installed, before marching on city hall and demanding that my MP fix the state of our AC so we can be comfortable in the summer when they are busy slashing the NHS into pieces and shitting on the very people you suggest are affected by the heat.
We don't sweat to death in the summer because of some bullshit stereotyped snobbery and stiff upper lip, we do because we don't have the money, the infrastructure or the availability of paying for and getting AC installed. Add to that the costs of keeping it running, and you have a lovely combination of your housemates/landlord getting pissed at you getting AC in, not having the money to pay for it in the first place and the people who are supposed to stop deaths from this kind of stuff being massively uninterested in the matter.
Ah fuck. In my defense, a lot of Americans unironically find metric confusing, so it might as well have been made by someone serious.
Our councils don't even want to spend the money required to fit buildings with sprinklers you think they give a shit about AC
leave it to facepunch to deviate from temperature to some dude saying communism is good because social change is good because we got democracy out of it lmao
0-100 Fahrenheit is roughly a 55 degree range in Celsius so do you really need that extra precision to tell if it's 70 or 71.8 instead of 21 or 22?
How does the humidity compare there? The midwest has been fucking awful this summer with nearly always 100 percent humid in the morning until 9ish now is finally going to cool down tomorrow. (It better, every time they call for a cool down it's like 2 days and then back to this shitty 80+ garbage with no clouds or wind.)
I live in northern california and every summer we get 1-3 days of "holy fuck, what is this heat" and I have a good method for staying cool.
Get a bucket, fill it up with water from your hose, and stick your feet in it. I did this when it was was 104/40C and I ended up feeling cold.
Unfortunately this does not work for computers so my plan to watch Hannibal outside in the shade on my laptop fell through when it became absurdly hot
On a scale of 0-100, 0 being the lowest, 72 being the highest, 100 also being the lowest.
motherfucker are you going to lie to me and say that 100 degrees fahrenheit feels perfect?
I never even said Communism was good. I fucking despise Communism. I was basically sub-quoting this Guardian article about historical revisionism.
It has become almost received wisdom to bracket Stalin and Hitler as twin monsters of the past century - Mao and Pol Pot are sometimes thrown in as an afterthought - and commonplace to equate communism and fascism as the two greatest evils of an unprecedentedly sanguinary era. In some versions, communism is even held to be the more vile and bloodier wickedness. The impact of this cold war victors' version of the past has been to relativise the unique crimes of Nazism, bury those of colonialism and feed the idea that any attempt at radical social change will always lead to suffering, killing and failure.
Seumas Milne: The battle for history
But whatever dude, deliberately misinterpret my post for the sick zinger points.
cool but did you know that T(°C) = (T(°F) - 32) × 5/9
Whenever I see the world map of countries that use Celsius vs. Fahrenheit:

If the US were to switch to metric only, the Republicans would undoubtedly campaign on switching back
What do I need to know an antiquated formula for converting between Fahrenheit and Celsius for when I'm not American?
just a little fun fact for you in a thread about temperature bud
I get it dude. I know the thread is about temperature. I fucking created this thread.
A temperature defined by the deepest achievable temperature achievable in a European(Polish/Danish) city in the year 1708/09 is clearly the best and most American solution.
Fucking humid, I moved to the UK last October thinking summers would be easy as I was fedup of hot Aussie summers.
I miss my dry 40 degree days and houses built to keep cold, UK summers fucking suck
gonna go ahead and disagree with this. gonna disagree with any rationale for the fahrenheit system, actually. the guy made it based off the internal body temperature being at 100F but oops actually its around 97
literally the only reason it makes sense to me is because I grew up with it. kids learn the metric system in school here, regardless.
The US should switch to metric, the UK should buy AC. Neither will do what they should because it would cost a bomb and our governments are shit.
I find it hilarious that drug dealers in the US have already switched to metric a long time ago because it makes it easier to deal with international suppliers
Well you guys gotta start somewhere, even if it is the criminals. Soon you will be metric
Fucking thank you. I hate all this bullshit nitpicking, it doesn't effect either party significantly on this forum. Find better things to argue about. I could care less what unit of measurement we use as long as the people using it understand it. I hate working on American cars because SAE is bizarre as hell, whereas with imports I take one look at a bolt and go, "Oh, that's probably a 12." But at the same time, why in the world would I weigh myself in "stone" when I could use kilograms?
i have one problem with this and it's that both date formats don't make sense. when you're looking for a specific date, let's say october 29 1992, you don't pick up the "october" or "29" calendar. you pick up the 1992 calendar. there's a clear established hierarchy that neither of our date formats pay attention to

logical smooth sailing: system32/windows/c:
*couldn't care less
