I fully expected the Sig MPX to win since it seems like the requirements were almost written for it and the fact that the B&T is probably the most expensive option. I still think the MP9 or a something like a Mk 18 would be a better pick for a close protection weapon, but the requirements disqualify folding stocks or anything that isn't 9mm.
Yeah the whole thing seems a bit odd, they agreed to buy 350 guns at over 7 grand a piece, and just going with a B&T gun at all seems weird, I don't think we've ever used a gun they made before.
To me this sounds like a very limited order. So the budget could have expanded due to that. If you are only getting a low quantity, might as well get some of the best. Sig MPX may have had durability issues, just like a couple years ago where their recoil assembly would just absolutely fail and jam up the gun. Not to mention that the MPX has 2 patterns that do not exchange parts out in the market. Not a bad choice, just that it sounds strange when a really expensive place wins over military's darling, Sig and when price usually dictates everything.
I'm really surprised that a company as small as BT won this contract up against giants like Colt, HK, and Sig. By their own accounts Brügger and Thomet has 70 employees and a single manufacturing facility in Thun, the APC9 must have made a pretty serious impression for the army to think it was worth the gamble. Admittedly 350 guns is a pretty small contract for the US Army, but considering how literally every attempt at adopting new equipment this century has gone it's kind of impressive they made a contract at all.

https://youtu.be/a-44H321Bsg Very unusual lockup mechanism, and all things considered a rather cheap and simple thing to build.
If all these new 5.56 rifles are going short-stroke piston, there's gotta be some kind of impetus for the mass adoption of that operating mechanism type by world MIL/LE forces. As in, companies wouldn't make them if there wasn't a noticeable demand.
This looks like a space gun.

It's called Netherlands Fractal Pattern. There's an arid version of it in multicam colors and a "transitional" pattern which is supposed to be for PPE like body armor and bags so that they don't have to issue those out in different patterns.

Maximum dakka
I love the B-25. We took a medium altitude medium weight bomber and turned it into a low level, wave top flying, attack plane to strafe and parachute bomb enemy ships/defenses.
