• Spears are Better than Swords

yeah and? guns are better than both
On the battlefield swords were almost never used as primary weapons (excluding greatswords) but outside of that context they were actually pretty practical weapons. They're much easier to carry around than a spear and are much more wieldy than axes and the like, also they have a guard and a much larger effective striking area. They weren't just status symbols and in fact in many points in history swords weren't even really status symbols at all.
You can use this link to see if any clubs are near you. It's how I found mine a month ago and I've been going to my local club ever since.
What about a spear with a gun on it?
Isnt that just a Bayonet
I used to think that but FF dragoons made me think otherwise.
Spears are OP in Dark Souls for a reason
Until I take out my dual old whips bitch boy and then 6 hits in break them
Swords and spears have unlimited ammo.
Never trust Lindy when it comes down to actual weapon use. I like the guy, but he often speaks very confidently about things he doesn't actually know a lot about. Be honest, Lindy (even more-so in 2010) is a LARPer, not a historical fighting expert. Artwork from all ages depict spears being used overhand. The Bayeux tapestry for example: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/211377/d710d101-439d-4c8f-b12e-ba9a81336e8d/image.png Of course artwork can't always be trusted, so that's why we have someone with a long history with historical weapons: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6p93xUp9GrQ OP's video is a bit of the same. Spears aren't better than swords. They are just different. You can't carry a 9 foot long spear everywhere. Unless you cut it down a lot, at which point you're just better off using a sword. The sword is a versatile all-rounder. It can be used aggressively and defensively. The Montante style of fighting shows large defensive sweeping cuts, that cover a lot of ground without ever coming to a rest. This was a technique used by bodyguards in an urban scenario against several attackers with rapiers. From experience I know that montante will wreck a spear and the user. Just last month we broke a solid ash spear using a blunt montante. And that's just one specific type of sword. A historical 15th century fighting manual describes a duel between two knights in armour. First on horseback with lance, then on foot with the spear, the longsword and finally the dagger. You're supposed to hold onto the spear for as long as possible, but if the opponent loses his spear and grabs his longsword, you should also immediately switch to the longsword. Armoured fighting is very different from unarmoured, and the spear simply can't compete with the longsword. Here's a short video showing several armoured fighting techniques with that manual as their source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUVng_naAYo

I think one of my favorite niches on youtube is medieval weapon expert channels.
