Renegade Cut makes a video on Gamergate (and Ready Player One)

Sorry for not speaking to the second half of that other post but you did raise a really good point, games journalists did have much louder voices and got to paint how most of the world saw GG and that's unfair and makes things even murkier. But you're not being called a fascist or a nazi here on Facepunch, and I'm sure you exist in other pocket communities that share your views, and in those same communities (ie this one) I'm called an idiot and an SJW, that I've swallowed the pink pill and that I've been hypnotized by a narrative spin, that's just how internet communities work. I don't hold that against anyone, it's a natural to come across anonymous people with conflicting ideologies and demonize them purely out of convenience, but if you're confident the labels are inaccurate then you have nothing to worry about.
I've been called a nazi for supporting the ideas of Nietzsche (and for GG too as it happens), a sociopath for promoting Satanism, a misogynist for drawing porn, and a bluepilled faggot dozens of times for giving women the benefit of the doubt in sexual harassment scandals, but none of that is important in the grand scheme of things. What I feel about GamerGate and the circumstances surrounding is not because of what I've read in news articles because I consciously avoided any and distrusted every one of them. Almost all of what I know about GamerGate is what I read in the 4chan threads and the IRC chats and secret forums, and that is the stuff that paints the most damning picture.
"said one detaches sociopath to the other."
You do this every thread. You and Lambeth. We could put the energy in, but you're just gonna pivot and keep asking for the same proof after it's been posted. we did this dance before. Are you just a teenager undergoing empathic and social development, or are you legitimately suffering from anti-social personality issues? You're jerking people around here again and again for nothing but your own entertainment.
Well that's some palpable irony right there.
Why are you still posting?
Please be patient.
I keep hearing 5 guys being mentioned and it sounds like something scandalous happened at a greasy burger joint.
Look, just because they like to engage in a highly repetitive, almost scripted habit, doesn't mean what you may be implying it means.
I mean no disrespect, but you come across as a person with mild personality issues. I don't mean in that you're insane or need meds. but from all you've said, i get the feeling councelling would help you keep perspective and read social cues differently. I'm starting to realize that your different view of all of this isn't blatant trolling. I'm starting to suspect either mild autism or Anxiety/borderline stuff. I dunno.
But this one is either 14 or a full blown sociopath. The manipulation is way beyond narcissism and it's kinda ironic because that's exactly what it turned out most of the aGG front figures struggled with as well.
Hello there I dont really know what you are going for.
My mistake, didn't see your post between all the bullshit.
Mangotron Ends Coverage of GamerGate – Mangotron.com
You know the funniest thing
you use basically the same source type I'm using. You rated my post funny, presumably because you don't take it seriously, yet here you are, using the same quality of evidence to support your side of the argument.
This is basic psychology in play, you are using confirmation bias and failing to reconcile that with reality.
Except my evidence doesn't directly contradict the point I'm making, yours does which is why it wasn't worth doing anything more than laughing at.
I'm not denying, and never have denied that bad actors in GG doxxed people.
You do flatly deny that any AGGer ever doxxed someone, even when proven wrong you cling to this narrative.
Stop it, or don't talk about this shit, or do what a rational human being does, and change your opinions to reflect reality.
Hey, think what you want about me man, no hard feelings. I have no more or less credibility in this no matter how crazy I am. GamerGate won in the end anyway so what's it matter to you if I'm right or wrong?
There is no mention of Liz at all, and scouring google shows me nothing.
Last night, my personal details, like name and address were exposed by GamerGate and posted on Twitter.
Why does this read like Fox news talking about the hacker called 4chan?
And what is it meant to prove? That doxing happened? Because everyone here already agrees both sides doxed each other.
I mean that i didn't mean any disrespect. Except that in retrospect it's way into prying past acceptable personal borders. I was just trying to say i found your stance then and now to be misguided, rather than willfully ignorant. It's not about winning, though. It's about truth and sensibility.
Can't remove this quote because I'm on mobile. But please stop bringing up RationalWiki, it is not an unbiased source (wikis are never a good source)
They are to Gamergate what Boilrig is to Brexit.
This post started as a small argument as to why it's pointless to try and convince us of the "error of our ways" so to say, but I went off quite a tangent. I'll post it anyways:
This forum is very left leaning and has, at one point or another, called out all the original figureheads of gamergate. Anita, Metokur, Zoey, Milo, Randi, Sargon, Wu-- they are all terrible in their own ways. One is a con-artist, the other is a misogynist, one is an alt-righter, another is a doxxer and some are borderline insane.
Yet the majority consensus here is still that the movement was to fight corruption and nepotism in video game journalism. Why? Because that's what it has always represented on this forum, and that is what it will always represent. People here always rejected those users who acted in misogynistic and racist manners, and they were banned accordingly. But people also disliked the stupid, one-sided news articles posted by gaming websites, and felt that the situation should change, especially after the "gamers are dead" incident.
You cannot convince us that the movement is of a misogynistic nature. Maybe the majority on 4chan, 8chan or even Reddit were trying to attack women, but the Facepunch community did not. Since this movement was leaderless, it makes no sense trying to convince Facepunch otherwise. It'd be like trying to tell the BLM activists in a small town that their movement is actually racist because the BLM activists in the neighboring city lynched some white dudes.
And at the end of the day, both Pro and Anti-Gamergate both won and lost at the same time.
While the portion of gamergate who were fighting for better journalism in games lost the battle, the actual misogynistic portion actually won bigly. How else do you think people like Sargon of Akkad, Metokur or even Milo Yiannopopowhatever got so much attention, and so many supporters? Gamergate was their launchpad to fame, being able to lure normal everyday gamers to their channel and make them fear the SJW boogeyman. It's even possible that this is what eventually got the Alt-Right started.
And exactly this should be seen as a major loss to those who were on the moderate side of Anti-GG, who simply were in support of feminism and equal rights, convinced that the movement was threatening those concepts.
Yet, there was another group who won massively among the Anti-GG crowd, and those were the figureheads. Wikipedia now lists people like Zoe Quinn, Randi Harper, Brianna Wu, Anita Sarkeesian and so on as heros who fought against their oppressors, nevermind the fact that none of them were innocent in this whole ordeal. But they will gladly accept those invitations to UN meetings and what not, while the rest of you will have to deal with increasingly large political polarization and the rise of a right-wing political group exploiting the fears of so many who were involved with the pro-site of Gamergate.
This whole event as a whole in hindsight now feels like a prelude to the current political climate. While Trump and his goons are joined by the same assholes who corrupted the pro-GG side, you now also see similar figureheads as those of the anti-GG side trying to turn other communities into toxic political hellholes, like with the Linux Kernel Code of Conduct situation.
I don't know where this shit will be going from here on out, but I'm guessing it won't be pretty. Buckle up, in any case.
You really shouldn't try to take your debating techniques straight out of a playbook.
I mean. If The twitter shitposts post TB's death and Jessica Price's firing are any indication, they're deathly cautious of attempting another Goobers are dead type move. People were fully expecting a smear campaign of TB and his followers after he died and while they tried on twitter, they never wrote any articles and while some elements, even from sites we didn't expect, rose up to spin the truth surrounding Price's firing, it didn't really get much traction either. I think presently, people are well aware of and sceptic of any attempts at manipulation. It's also very obvious from forums that aren't Resetera and comment sections on said articles that people know how to seperate being a psychotic alt-righter from bringing valid scepticism and proof to the contary to these discussions. While it looks bad that Eurogamer just hired a writer that obviously wrote a pro- JP article deliberately omitting important facts, the comment section on her original article was very sceptical.
School isn't out yet.
You truly are a confounding person.
Why.
if your retort to being given evidence is “don’t argue logically” then you can continue being as ineffectual as you have been since GG ended
I know it's not about winning I'm just saying the stakes are fortunately so much lower now after the effects of GG. After all, it's become common practice to post disclaimers and be more transparent about press/publisher association on practically every major gaming news site, so I think whether or not the press wants to admit it they clearly got the message. That's part of why I've found it easier to sort of flip-flop on the issue lately, no one is really under threat anymore and there isn't really anything left to fight for.
Your assumption that your evidence is in no way unbiased and reliable is hilarious. I know the alt right is taking tactics from the left, but I didn't think this forum would have 2 lefTudds.
Tudd go home the joke isn't funny anymore
Pacing the story using closed doors was pretty smart, writing wasn't as far up it's ass as Dear Ester or something, the setting was sold fairly well, and it cleverly (I felt) played with my expectations (I expected a jump scare or a creepy turn every minute).
I kinda dug it back when it was released
Should have been called Pop Culture References: The Movie.
I did enjoy seeing Krull, though
I liked the atmosphere they made, I liked exploring the set and cobbling together the story in my mind. the main story is a little weak but the side stories about the father especially were great I found it way more engaging than Dear Esther, which was the first time I had ever heard of the term walking simulator. I think some people who really didn't like it actively doubted whether it was a game at all, which is dumb. Engage with a game on it's own merits, not what you want it to be.
We could put the energy in, but you're just gonna pivot and keep asking for the same proof after it's been posted.
