Do you have any more info from Garry regarding the possible impending doom of the forums? Do you think he would be willing to turn it over to the community if push comes to shove?
Garry basically just changes shit says fuck you and leaves for a month
It's all been said by various posters already - but losing the forums would be a great disappointment, and a great loss of community. Not all of us are as active, but I'm sure we recognise many of the names that have already left their thoughts in this and other threads in the past day or so. Hopefully Hezzy can give us some more insight into the current situation, but I don't await that with bated breath.
I think @Inacio would be the best candidate for this This is pretty much it. I know a lot of people have said similar things throughout the 25 pages, but this is the simplest put. Reddit isn't a community, it's a content aggregator. Some of you can act like proper cunts sometimes, but because we're a community I know who you all are. You're our cunts. A bug reporting megathread would be good, with a constantly updated OP I want to make it clear that this decision has nothing to do with finances. It's about what garry has said. Why would we have a forum, when we can have a reddit? I disagree with this wholeheartedly and spent a while explaining my thoughts to garry, but now I see that the community has done a much better job than me. They're explained exactly why we're a community. It's beautiful. Yes, this. Having a formal payment function / monetisation for the forum is problematic. In the past, it has been shown that the income does not justify the effort expenditure for all of the tax accounting that is required for multinational payments. Hence why the community fund was created solely by me and was a charity / fund pooling initiative rather than a source of revenue. Tlean reorganised the list, I didn't even know you had a Discord. Plus you're all just jealous of my awesome car so I didn't take it to heart. oh jeez h-hezzy we thought you were joking ITS REAL ANGRYTOADNOISES HERE PUT THIS DIAMOND UP YOUR BUTT Since the migration our user base of daily active users has actually expanded around 40% - our peak active users was like 20,000k in 2009 and declined to about 4500 before I took the reigns again. We're making steady progress back towards our peak active users. a refreshing change I am pretty sure garry has read most if not all this thread from the conversation we've had And nothing of value was lost The forums will be staying around for at least a couple of months. I wouldn't panic. I'm on it. and now I'm done reading
What happened?
All the same, i'm gonna stock up on tinned shitposts and a bunker just in case.
Hezzy please save us.

Any news from the boss Hezzy?
For the record hezzy I love you and I'm glad you're back with us. I'm a little glad that garry said the things he said because it brought out almost everyone to say how Facepunch has been involved in their lives and how long it has affected them. My personal story is that I used to browse FP in high school, I came back like a year after I graduated and they blocked it because they probably saw my huge history of page after page.
Hezzy is active in the FP Discord if you want to talk.
Yeah I looked all over the page and there totally ain't any response, the fuck up hezzy?
I've read literally every single post in this thread, I enjoyed reading the longer posts especially if they were about how people have enjoyed Facepunch over the last few years. I gave a lot of people diamonds for cool posts. I want more people to post these. I've put a thread up; Facepunch Appreciation Station
Hezzy, I love you. Please notice this old '07 senpai
@Hezzy Bring back the smartness system goddamned!
Hezzy I feel genuinely sorry for you that you ended up getting caught in the middle of all this Thanks 4 the work you're putting into trying to save this mess
i love you too man we need to teach the rust idiots how to post got to roll with the punches I've updated the OP with some questions; Where the fuck is Hezzy? This is my part time job, my life has been pretty full on for the past few weeks (various other work and personal shit that I don't want to get into on a public forum, check Discord if you want to know more) but hopefully things will quieten down now. I'm always reachable on Discord, just @ me. I can be reached on Twitter at Hezzy88 and via email Are the forums getting deleted / what the fuck happened Garry expressed his feelings on the current state of the forums; he puts a lot of work into them (he created all this from scratch) but is wondering if it's worth it. Will forums as a communication medium be relevant in 10 years? What do forums do, that reddit and other alternatives don't? A lot of people gave some really good feedback. One or two people were banned; par for the course really. The forums were condensed by garry at my suggestion, everybody prefers megathreads and we should work to accommodate this and improve it. In a few months, garry is going to look at the forums again and decide if we should keep them. Help us show garry that we care by posting in Facepunch Appreciation Station. If you don't want to see our community go under, we should get our fingers out and start posting. Get our activity levels up. Let's do some worthwhile shit.
I like sub forums more than megathreads, but that's just me.
Exactly. We need another purge.
Actually, I forgot one of my biggest thing in my "long story" post! When you invited me to help concept a bit for the whole Facepunch persistent Minecraft world! I don't remember all the details but it was based on three diff factions and set biomes etc. Sad it didn't take off but I had fun for the short time it lasted (and with the bug that gave me access to mod forums). I understand it might not be everyone's fondest memory though. I appreciate I was given a chance despite potential risk and/or fallout.
Nationcraft was the shit. It was quite fun, shame we couldn't make a thing of it. If only I knew how to code!!
Thanks for the diamond dumpass
Anyone know where the Depression thread went? I can't seem to find it via search or post history.
Honestly, I think it’d be a good idea to reverse the recent changes, bringing back the Videos section, subforums and all that. I say this because, as far as I know, people were pretty happy with how it was before. It was really only the Games section that people had a problem with, due to the ultra-specific subsections. All that really needed to be done was still consolidate them, but only to the point where the subsections there were classed by publisher. Things like the Sony and Microsoft subsections were perfectly fine. Then you got the Mario subsection, which was really just the Nintendo one in all-but-name. And the TF2 subsection was really just a special case. But then you got subsections like GTA, Red Dead and Elder Scrolls, and at that point, that’s just the point where things got a little too far. Doing this, plus fixing up mobile so that it isn’t 80% pain and needing to use a custom CSS to make it 40% pain, and I'm pretty sure everyone will be much happier.
right here
Please at least convince Garry to undo the last changes. There are a ton of threads with no place to go anymore.
I think the only forums we're missing out on is TF2, Videos, and GIP. TF2 was the only game community that warranted its own forum
I can get consolidation, but some of it is a bit silly, Videos being the most so. Screenshots is totally unrelated to the greater Gmod community that it should stand out and get a subforum. Having the variety of assets split up is good for organization. Maps, Modelling, Game Dev. Games going back to how it was is fine to me, but people did have use for GIP so might be wise to keep that. Videos and Fast Threads would be cool to have back, but at least videos, it is far too much for sharing a forum with anything else.
The subforums we had were bad, full stop. There's no denying that they got no use. If garry's confused by the negative reaction to deleting them, @Hezzy please tell him we just want something in the middle. Some spread of content is OK, the Videos forum got a lot of use and is the kind of thing we should've kept; the Science sub got zero traffic and is the kind of thing we should've deleted/renamed.
I think the consolidation was a good idea but bad execution. IMO This is what would have been a slightly better idea. Do the consolidation. Create new sub found under GD tagged Media, Social, Question/Post your and Meta(we really needed this). Social would have some special rules and throw WAYT or any country chat or CD/TG gay or whatever in there. GD can be whatever you want it to be related to this forum community like events, raffles, rules, updates, forums discussion(maybe meta?) Meta should be bug reports or any issues with the forums Media is the new Videos and Flash
