An update to how simpleflips is taking this news. https://i.imgur.com/dMBQPTb.png Blocking your fans when they politely show you why your sponsor isn't trustworthy. Y I K E S Tbh with the $200 youtubers get for every signup betterhelp is looking more and more like a pyramid scheme imo.
I'm not really well versed in the Canadian healthcare system but I assumed visits to a clinical psychologist / therapist would be covered.
It's not a recent thing, PewDiePie became well liked on Facepunch a few years ago. The only time he had a dip in popularity was his n-word fiasco and the "death to all jews" fiverr thing
Blocking kiwi farms is standard procedure for anyone with a pulse or whom is conscious.
The fact that they managed to expose that BetterHelp is (most likely) co-founded by Kati Morton a popular youtuber isn't worthy? Neither the fact that Betterhelp is deeply linked to Philip Defranco's company Rogue Rocket? Sure their methods aren't pretty. But in the thread that is linked there is no bias being presented. No memeage about "oh i hate this person so this is all valid." Just facts that you can validate yourself. I don't necessarily agree with the things that people have done in the past to people who weren't deserving of such treatment. But this isn't one of those cases. https://i.imgur.com/SbdPffl.png The most disgusting thing is that Betterhelp pushes uncorrect information to people to make them believe they fall in the cateagory of having mental illness just for the purpose of making them feel more inclined to give them money than they other would have on their own terms. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1303/bc1e1935-6342-4d37-84ab-ad760c873f48/image.png https://i.imgur.com/remYeeN.png Hmm very interesting how Betterhelp doesn't include any lines about making sure you get treatment from a professional who has training in helping patients with autism. 🤔 If you wanna check it out on your own terms here's the link. I found the video testimonial of the British guy unconvincing for another reason, and that's because psychology and therapy are available on the NHS without having to spend anything, so using BetterHelp here would be super dumb.
Not defending BetterHelp as I've not read much about it and I fortunately do not suffer from mental health issues myself so it would be disingenuous for me to say anything, but it's worth noting that while therapy etc. is indeed available on the NHS, expect super duper long waiting times. My mother is a psychiatrist working in the UK and she's said NHS mental health services are overloaded throughout the entire country. Some areas you are looking up to one, maybe even two years to get even an initial appointment. If you are in crisis good luck even being seen too; there has been cases where people have made a suicide attempt, friends or family have phoned NHS emergency channels and have been told to just make an appointment which, again, can be up to a year away in some instances. Unfortunately this means that a lot of people, including several of my mother's patients, have killed themselves before they could be seen. If you are in the UK and need help of course the NHS should be your first port of call, but due to the current situation it helps to be aware of alternatives.
I'm intimately aware of the mental health services here, as I've made a few suicide attempts myself, but yeah, you're right that waiting times can sometimes be quite long. Honestly, it only took me a month to get seen by a weekly psychologist, and if you're in danger, you can be seen very quickly, but I still think anybody using BetterHelp are probably not seriously enough in danger to worry about having to wait a bit to start appointments. I think face-to-face communication is essential for therapy to be effective, but I accept that this is just my take. I feel it should be intimate and personal - doing it over the Internet just feels detached and somewhat divorced from reality, something that depression already causes me to feel by default.
I don't like any of these online services. They won't take me for having suicidal thoughts, and I'm not going to lie during the initial process.
Nope. I can get a recommendation from my doctor(not that I have, or can even get one) but that only subsidizes the cost of it. To see a clinical psychologist, and not just a "therapist" or a "Counselor"(all various certification levels) I have to; 1) Have a family doctor. 2) Have the family doctor recommend a psychologist instead of what they usually do, prescribe anti-depressants. 3) Find one with openings in the next 6 months. If you're in a crisis and you're going to do something irrational, there is literally nothing you can do to talk to someone in Canada. You can call the suicide hotline, but they'll literally tell you "We can't say anything, we can just listen" because they have to cover their asses on legal liability. We've developed a world that fosters depression, anxiety, and confusion. And we have absolutely no methods or plans in place to deal with the fact we're creating this world.
Kiwifarms has literally been caught fabricating evidence. When they first started this they claimed that PhillyD was a co-owner because they gave 0 understanding how sponsorships work.
Which is why the phrase trust, but verify is important in this very day and age. It's not hard to understand why they would think that because not much information is necessarily available about the middlemen between companies who want to sponsor youtubers and the youtubers themselves. https://i.imgur.com/sjogfBG.png Considering you can still go to any youtuber who has been sponsored by Betterhelp and see which ad influencer company was the middleman on the sponsorship. It's not that hard to verify that "oh yeah what they are saying is true." You can still take in the knowledge a group provides without necessarily subscribing to their ideology. Doesn't exactly help when regardless if he is directly embed into the company or merely the middleman he still has broken one of the FTC guidelines that if you have any connection to a seller of a product or service you must disclose that relationship. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1303/097ffbb8-4e21-4159-904d-dd759ca09089/image.png
He states in every video that he has a direct sponsorship from BetterHelp. If you watch his response he actually breaks down everything and fills in holes that kiwifarms has made up and can't verify. He's never not disclosed his sponsorships. There's a lot you can call him, a fence sitting moron who rides on drama but you can't say he's lying to people.
You would think that >100k$ per month via patreon is quite enough for DeFranco to not pull shady shit like this...
The fuck does he do with that money?
From my understanding, it goes to expanding staff, including new personalities for new shows. They just recently moved to a new location, they're still renovating. So a lot of it gets eaten up in benefits, paychecks and renovations. Additionally, he wants to expand into a full studio production and that kind of equipment gets expensive.
It's almost like it's tougher to judge how something is run from the inside when you aren't the person who founded the company who helps diss out sponsorships for Betterhelp. If you could actually break down the information I'm providing and actually produce evidence that shows contradictions instead of just claiming "B-But they did a bad once!". Like yeah no shit you can apply that lenses to any online community. If you were to have a narrow mindset about Facepunch you could say it's just a breeding group for prepubescent children who like to put 3d models of video games characters into erotic positions. But alas that doesn't really prove anything and any evidence that would be provided for that claim would be based on individuals and sub-communities of the greater community. The average viewer for philip defranco isn't going to go "Oh yeah that company that phil started in 2017 as a independent news network called Rogue Rocket got converted into an ad agency for big organizations to task them with giving out sponsorships to youtubers of various sizes." There's a difference between receiving a sponsorship from a company and working for a company to give out said sponsorships. Regardless the phil stuff is noteworthy but i feel slightly derailing what should be focused on aka how greasy Betterhelp is. I'm not an expert on every law in the world. I doubt the people who reside at Kiwi farms are either. What I'm saying is that if something looks fishy and smells fishy then there's a good chance that it's fishy as hell. Just because you pull up dead-ends or accidentally put some exaggeration in your investigations doesn't mean the whole pot is sour. For the third time this thread you can definitely take information from sources you do not agree with on an ideological and learn from the truths they do provide. For example, Henry Ford was a huge voice for anti-semitism in the late 19th and early 20th century. Does that mean we have to burn the written memory of Henry Ford from existence? No it's just as important to take the good that someone has done in with horrible things that they have done during their life.
I doubt he spends more than 50k/month to run his business. JayzTwoCents' monthly bill is around 30k most of which is spend paying various CA taxes if I remember correctly.
They weren't the only ones digging and someone else actually found the link and gave it to them. Also the notion of a site that routinely disclose people that don't like having mental issues through records is p rich, because that's how they found out what they did in the first place. Also any human being armed with common sense that read the TOS would know the level of sketch is up to 11.
Aw man. I was thinking about using this, since I’m in the south and finding a proper LGBT councilor is like finding a needle in a hay stack. It really is tempting you know, but I guess it’s a sham? Kind of stinks.
Can anyone fill me in on all the flack PhillyD is getting over this? Because his response to the whole thing was basically "yeah I didn't know about this, they invited me to go talk to them, if this isn't fixed then we're dropping them but I'm giving them a chance to fix it because this service is a really good idea". Like, I never got the impression he was intentionally misleading people for profit or whatever, but I also admit that I don't know every side of the situation.

He has an attendant content ad network that is drectly affiliated with their sponsorship and actively promoting them to youtubers on the corporate level.
Even if they weren't completely disgusting in the ToS, you still shouldn't go through a service like this this for LGBT issues.
I mean ultimately, I have to ask, what are people supposed to do? The system has utterly failed most of us. We don't have options, we can't afford the cost of a local therapist, we can't afford the cost of waiting years to see someone in an emergency, what are people really supposed to do? It sucks that BetterHelp's TOS is so sketchy and it certainly makes me feel queasy knowing it is what it is. But you know what? I don't know what people like myself are supposed to do. There's not a wealth of alternatives.
I was in therapy face to face for 2 years with some psychiatrist sessions. I don't think that I could do it via text and get actual results, but that varies from person to person. Some people want to just get stuff off their chests and not talk about it and thats understandable. I felt alienated and quit suddenly to move away and have a 'fresh' start, since then I found happiness in life without clinging to people or materialistic things. If your reading this then I hope you have a wonderful day!
That TOS just looks extremely standard to me. It looks like they do check to see if they're qualified, but they can't be held liable if they're not. This is literally completely standard on every single TOS providing any type of service.
This, there are no options. Having psychological issues in this world sucks ass, even in places that got your healthcare covered and a progressive view on such things like Sweden. The public sector lacks resources and personel - good luck getting any help that doesn't involve waiting for months or years or group therapy -, the private sector is expensive as fuck, and in the end there's such a lack of understanding both from the medical side in terms of scientific knowledge but also as from how the general public views it. My personal experience mostly comes down to seeing a physician once a month for checkup while going through different anti-depressants that never helped, losing years of my teenages to a depression and having grown up to be a dysfunctional adult because of it, never really had any help in getting to the roots of my issues. I eventually picked the option of not even bothering with professional help anymore, obviously not because I'm fine without it but because there are hardly any options.
Part of this too is that the original investigative journalist has also been offered by PhillyD to get straight access to the facility and he's also dropped sponsorship support until this is all settled. This could be literally just plain ignorance but Kiwifarms literally thrives off Drama and false information being spread around that also causes drama. Support the original journalist, not some forum that literally pokes, prods and harasses the very people they're trying to protect. In all likelihood, KF is just in this to make things worse.
I don't think he's working with them anymore, his newest video doesn't have the link in the description anymore.
