Oops, sorry! Firefox 66.0.1, on Ubuntu. Works on Chromium and worked on my Android tablet so I'm at least signed up now!
Firefox by default has privacy features that won't allow another site's cookies to work on a different one, which is great, except we're using Google login. you can add a whitelist entry for knockout.chat and that should fix it Privacy extensions like Privacy Badger could also do the same. this is how my settings look on Chrome: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/326417/cbbfa869-8d4a-417e-8076-b0591c5c33e0/image.png Knockout is also an exception in Privacy Badger (because, well, i made it, and i know i didnt add any shitty tracking bullshit on it )
Awesome, thank you!
Wikipunch is thoroughly broken, maybe consider setting up a simple wiki?
could be cool once we get the 2nd machine
On the topic of join date migration, do you think you could allow people to add a custom join date? Or perhaps a second join date underneath the Knockout join date, that can also be custom set? This avoids you migrating data, but allows people to show how long they were an FP member for. Perhaps it would be too much effort for the end goal, but quite a few people seem to want to be able to bring across the time they have been in the community for.
And suddenly everybody's a 04'er, yeah I wouldn't trust custom join dates for a second
Log in with Google isn't working. How do I make an account?
to help you all out (including @AtomicSans ) i made a new login page that should hopefully explain why most people can't manage to log in: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/326417/b9356b54-bb47-4f6d-bb51-9d65d9f5f787/image.png it's in the testing site now, and i'll push it to production after all the kinks are worked out.
Yeah, on second thought you're absolutely right. Sounds like the best option is just to omit it after all.
I thought that solution could work if it required some sort of manual verification from a mod (and only keeping the option available for the first couple of months or so), but that's pretty convoluted and would saddle the mods with extra work.
My biggest beef with it right now is words getting cut in half on mobile (instead of moving down a line) ... and I can't rate on mobile? Sorry if I'm late, I'm just jumping into mobile Knockout this morning...
There could still be a way to link profiles and transfer join dates without requiring Garry to do anything or violating anyone's privacy. If someone wanted to link their profiles, you could generate a unique verification code for them on Knockout, then create a special thread on FP where everyone posts their codes. Then you could scrape the thread for confirmations and automatically transfer join dates and put links to FP profiles in people's accounts. Just throwing ideas out there.
Alternatively you put the code on the profile and link the profile.
Another suggestion if it isn't too much trouble (thanks for fixing the avatar bug and adding backgrounds Inacio!), could each post on the page be resized to a minimum size to show each user's full background? It currently cuts off half way through the background. (Also do you have like a patreon or something, I want to throw some money your way for doing all this).
You'll only see the full backround with long posts currently, so you gotta make your backround with that in mind. Maybe we should have the "Hover to display" feature.
that was intentional to both replicate what happens on newpunch (and thus be more comfortable for migrating users) and to make it so pages arent extremely long. it's an easy change, so if everyone thinks that will happen i can try it and see if i like it! im not considering any funding means right now, but thanks! it might be necessary later on, but for right now it's okay
Is there an equivalent to gold in knockout? I just registered there, I like the interface.
yes but no way to get it for now because i dont want to think about money until i feel comfortable doing so
what do you guys think about adding threads you create / threads you reply to to your read threads automatically? y/n? i personally would like it
That's what Read Threads did, it just had a very visible option to mark unread
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/326417/38e7ec3c-a58d-4378-b81c-84eeeb807d0e/image.png i mean, we have a very visible button so i guess it's fine?
Gotta ask the big question, are there plans to make animated avatars/backgrounds return for KO? All the wacky little animated avatars that gold members used to have were one of my favourite parts of oldpunch, it was a real art trying to figure out what we could with within the resolution and file size limit.
yes
I like how this is being handled right now and while I think having a "hover to display in full over the avatar" would be nice I also don't think it'd work with current crusty level of webp compression - maybe add that + a lower compression level as a donator feature?
Don't forget all the CSS bullshit people managed to put into titles at the very end, Wickedplayer's title comes to mind
the intention for the compressed backgrounds is so that pages load faster, use less data and possibly even a slight rendering speed improvement. and also, to use the minimum possible of storage - we're STILL using a tiny little server with not a lot of storage. we can look at changing that later
If subscriptions are going to be replacing read threads, can we have an option to automatically subscribe to every thread we read?
probably
https://i.imgur.com/Dlp19u5.png Is it wise to pin KO as a "gaming community"? I mean yeah it's probably one of the most commonly share aspects among the users but I feel like we're more than that considering we're bold enough to even have the news and political discussions.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
