because borders are ugly
Is that you Pixy?
I get your approach, but maybe reducing the padding while still keeping the spacing between threads (instead of using borders) might work as a best-of-both-worlds approach.
but aren't spaces just boneless borders tho
I'll hope for customization that would allow for me to live in my nostalgia for how the oldpunch forums looked.
Afaik the only way to do that so far is by making an custom API edit. The themes function that is implemented only really has colour changes afaik.
I know we're imitating Facepunch but let's not imitate the part where universal user feedback is ignored because the guy in charge's personal biases.
by having an opinion i'm now garry?
Garry has opinions, you have opinions... I think the connection is pretty clear, don't you?
You're glossing over what they're actually complaining about here. The comparison is that Garry voices his opinion as if it's the end-all be-all of what's going to happen. They're warning you to try and avoid that happening with Knockout because it doesn't serve the community in the long run. And that's kinda how you were acting there.
https://forums.stylepunch.club:3000/image/139-bg.webp yeah that looks a lot better, ty

Sorry if this has been asked before, but can we expect any post wipes during further Knockout development? Or is the website we're posting on now safe from here on out? I just want to know before I put too much effort into any posts/generals.
I feel the same way, hence why I am running a custom CSS for it in my browser. It basically removes the margin/padding, makes them a non rounded box, adds hover highlighting as well. (Don't mind the red stuff this is me just navigation through the sites DOM and selecting elements without the random CSS classes) https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/134/158807a2-2231-47c4-a0e3-4416d1d695df/image.png
whoa hey that hover white border is really fucking neato i'd so be down for this to be default
That will break any time a change is made to the style by the way. You can thank Node.js for that.
Oh nonono, i have written it in a way it will only break if someone changes the HTML DOM structure.
Customization is not a replacement for good default design and I hope that knockout doesn't hide behind it like it is. And this is somehow uglier.
yep, we have a fix for that in place but it hasnt been pushed to production yet. also i recommend using .chat for the time being - .community has a bit of a temper and i dont know why only if it's something seriously critical (like security issues). hopefully not
Yeah the forum design needs to be more compact, I visited the qa site and it seems way better, but information still needs to be uniformly distributed horizontally on the thread listing page instead of being weighted so densely on each corner.
some people complained that videos and images are too wide (because they work the same way they do here on facepunch) should we change that for knockout? vote agree for limiting width to 75% of your browser window's width rate disagree if you want me to leave it as it is on facepunch
I think they seem wide because the avatar and background on the left take up a lot of screenspace. I'd rather see some way to thumb them.
That makes very little sense to me, they get resized to your post's width, which already fits on the screen to begin with. I think an option to make them fit to the browser window's height would make more sense - so that a picture or a video would always completely fit on your screen when you scroll down to it
Honestly I'd prefer if they were a bit smaller, because the knockout is full width and that makes them bigger and sometimes that becomes huge.
You can change that in your user settings, click on your username in the top right corner
but that means they take less space, no? or am i misunderstanding
well yes, but they look pretty wide because they go all the way out to the corner of the post, which on smaller screens takes up almost the entire screenspace on default width. facepunch has this wide margin between the left and right edges and the centered forum section, which most people are probably used to which is why it would look wider but what I think is the problem is if there is a thread with a lot of large images. you have to scroll a lot and you don't really get a good overview of the image maybe you could try out the 75 % limit on the QA branch and see how it looks in a thread with massive images and compare it to how it is now
click on your name top right, then look to the bottom left
hey everyone. this is your opportunity to suggest your dumb "absolutely MUST HAVE or i riot" ideas. i'm making the roadmap for notpunch. post like this: --- LINE ONE: [SUGGESTION] blah blah blah mlp subforum blah blah LINE TWO: more detailed info blah blah rainbow dash blah blah --- make sure to @Inacio on your post. please post in that format so it's easier for me to filter through them. before sending a suggestion, make sure it's not in the Hopeful Feature Requests column of   Trello if it is, just upvote/like/vote that card. i'll still be considering those cards for new features. important: critical features are to be prioritized. if you can live without it just fine (eg it was never in newpunch) you should probably post something else instead. if you make an ebin xddd meme suggestion, you'll get banned
@Inacio [Suggestion] Changeable username. Ability to change your display username. Possibly on a timer to prevent abuse. As far as I can tell it's not on trello or implemented but me / control F are blind so I probably missed it.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
