Unpopular Opinions V. FP should go down more often

Context matters greatly. Eg I studied at my university’s business & law school for six years, where we learnt not only within the study areas, but also how to learn as well. But when it comes to repairing and maintaining my car, I will readily defer to a mechanic - even an apprentice. I will not pretend to know more than they do, because even a first year apprentice will have the relevant knowledge and inclinations that I myself do not have.
Of course, a stereotypical antivaxxer will not hold a candle towards a biologist. But that does not make biologists knowledgeable in all aspects of science, nor does it make the biologist infallible in their own area of study. Various sciences have been plagued by the Reproducibility Crisis in recent years - and not just psychology. All of this isn’t to devalue scientists, but rather that scientists shouldn’t be put on pedestals and worshipped, which many people on the Internet unfortunately do.
If a kid isn't vaccinated, not only should they be barred from attending public schools, the parents should be investigated by child protective services. "I don't want my kid to be protected from pneumonia because a mommyblog on Facebook said it'd make him an impotent retard" is a terrifying mindset for a primary caregiver to have. The same way you'd want to look into a parent who openly talks about beating their kids, you should look into parents who openly talk about denying them medicine; you could even make the argument that it's more harmful, since the number of children in harm's way is exponentially increased when you change dad's belt to the fucking flu virus. If they believe in anti-vax, there's no telling what other abusive, woo-based insanity those kids are being exposed to (urine cleanse, black salve, malnutrition disguised as veganism/clean eating, etc.)
And if you're a healthcare professional who refuses to administer vaccinations, you should have any and all licenses and certifications to practice medicine revoked.
There's absolutely no fucking excuse to not being vaccinated aside from a preexisting medical condition like a compromised immune system that would render vaccines useless or harmful for the individual receiving them. I've actually heard people say "*tsk*, well, uh, I just don't like all those chemicals they put in there". Fuck you, everything is chemicals. Clean drinking water contains hydrogen, the shit they used to fill the fucking Hindenburg. Spinach is chock-full of tasty delicious iron, as in the metal. Literally everything is made of these "chemicals" and just because something claims to be "organic" or "all-natural" doesn't mean it's good for you. Hell, that shit's not regulated by the FDA, so there's a better chance it might be bad for you. Being mauled by a bear is properly fucking organic, totally natural, but I think everyone at your local drum circle would end up agreeing with those shills at Big Pharma that bear maulings are generally bad for your health.
Raise your kids literally however you want, that's none of my business, but the people insisting that their unvaccinated kids be allowed to carry diseases into classrooms are dangerous lunatics. Anti-vax is child abuse, vaccines don't cause autism, and even if that was a legitimate risk, who fucking cares? Anyone who would prefer a dead kid over a reasonably healthy one who just happens to really like LEGO and Sonic the Hedgehog is an asshole who shouldn't even bother having kids in the first place.
imo all certificates and degrees do is proof of specialization and nothing else. I'll listen to arguments, not credibility.
just governments represent every single person inside a country
to such an extent, technically no existing government does, but that's the goal
Being gay is not a personality trait.
Being trans is not a personality trait.
If you keep talking about amazing you are because you are gay/trans/whatever and you think I'm homophobic/transphobic/whateverphobic because I think you're annoying,I'm not any of those things I just think you're fucking annoying.
I mean, you could also turn 360 degrees and walk away from those people if they annoy you so much. Unless of course you're one of those people who get mad at even the slightest mention of something you don't like, and in that case I'd suggest anger management or something
I'm not accusing you of anything, but I've found that a few people who say stuff like this tend to exaggerate how gays etc. think they're 'amazing'. I'm gay, and I think that I should be able to talk about partners & relationships as much as straight people do. At no point do I think I'm better than people that aren't gay, but I've still been told a few times something along the lines of "I get it, you're gay", as though me daring to treat homosexuality the same as heterosexuality in conversation is an attempt to constantly bring up my special snowflake sexuality.
Again, that's not an attack on you, I'm just hopping off your response.
this gnomed meme is already dead
It kinda bothers me how progressive culture seems to have done a 180 and now places loads of emphasis on how marginalized people aren't just like your average dick and jane. Like, it used to be "LGBT people aren't hyper-sexual perverts, they're just normal people who have different tastes", but now I keep seeing these rants from self-described """allies""" about how cool it is to fuck loads of people and be totally all about dildos and sex toys and hard drugs and how #BRAVE it is to eat ass.
There was one that got posted in response to Louis CK making fun of gender-neutral people that basically boiled down to "Heh, you thought you were a rebel with your vanilla little "make women watch me jerk off" kink? Queer kids these days are into WAY more fucked up stuff, they do so much hard drugs and fuck loads of strangers all the time, it's AWESOME. These kids WILL fuck and suck each other within an hour of the first date, GUARANTEED, THEY JUST LOVE ANONYMOUS SEX THAT MUCH, IT'S WHO THEY ARE".
I dunno, I'm not queer so maybe I don't have the best perspective on this kind of thing, but I've always felt like this shit would make me SUPER uncomfortable if I was queer, you know? Like it comes off as a really ignorant weirdo fetishizing a minority culture so they can feel like a revolutionary activist on Reddit.
I like crispy cookies better than moist cookies.
It s fucking disgusting anyone could be naked talking to you online you should have to wear clothes to be connected
Soft baked > haf cookies.
personally i always put on my finest three piece suit to shitpost on facepunch
Heterosexuality is normalized to a point we dont really even notice displays of it anymore. Homosexuality, not so much.
That's a whole lot of aggro there pal
I don't like the channel GVMERS.
Naruto is a good show
There's nothing wrong about talking about relationships or partners, that's normal no matter who you are. I'm talking about the types of people who will just spam posts about being "fabulously gay!!!" 24/7. If a straight dude did it talking about how they're great because they're hetero,I would find it annoying as well,it's just that people don't really call out on someone being annoying if they're a minority (at least that's what I noticed, maybe you haven't).
This is not what I meant....at all.....
good at being terrible
in what way?
it's basically the shonen stereotype of poorly planned writing and obnoxious filler and power escalation. It's got a few good arcs ofc but the show overall really isn't worth watching
I haven't followed the show much but the Naruto games are a guilty pleasure of mine. The series just has this fun and hype world where crazy magic ninja shit can happen with escalating powers that keeps on being ridiculous you can't help but look forward to them.
I used to be one of those teens who were against the whole Naruto craze but, honestly after some casual watching on it years later it is an entertaining shonen and I can see how kids who didn't grow up with Dragon Ball grew up with it and loved it. It's not a deep show and it's not something really you'd recommend for its quality, but as far as brainless shonen goes, it knows how to keep things fun. Excluding Dragon Ball and My Hero Academia, it's one of those shonen's that are fun to watch at random or even just focusing on the arcs with the hype battles next to One Piece. I think Naruto also has a lot more lasting appeal compared to its other counterparts at the time like Bleach.
This basically, I refused to watch it as a teen and didnt watch much anime in general but my girlfriend liked it back then and shes been rewatching it for nostalgia ever since we bought the games on sale so I'm viewing it for the first time and I'm digging it, shippuden is even better
The movies are great too
I'm also a dirty dragonball z fan too so that helps I suppose
Yeah the movies are awesome. I love how that's usually the time where you can see where they push all the budget they have as much as they can for an hour and a half of fun animated action for an hour and a half.
I think there are a few solid things going for Naruto. The villains are fairly interesting, its world is rich and compelling, it explores its themes on war in the context of said world in a surprisingly mature way, and the character designs are excellent. I really enjoy the Kishimoto's artstyle in the Manga, and in the anime, a lot of the fights scrape the top of animation quality and are the gold standard for choreography.
I maintain that some of its biggest fights are easily some of the greatest animation of any kind I've ever seen. It helps that they're paced and directed fantastically as well. The Ninja premise makes for some extremely diverse and creative dynamics in both fights and general character interaction, and when it's fully realized, with Ninja's creatively using their jutsu and unique abilities, it's a ton of fun to watch.
The filler is more or less egregious, but I've been meaning to watch the fan-created Dragon Ball Kai-esque "Naruto Kai", which cuts down the series to about 60 or 70 episodes and keeps it tight to the manga without the excess of flashbacks or filler. I want to see if it holds up.
Or in this case follow Tyler the Creator's anti cyberbullying advice
that really wasn't the overall point the reader was supposed to get out of that post
it would've been if the main character was rock lee
Ignore this quote, facepunch on mobile isn't that good
Ignore this one as well
When you put it that way I guess your right. I mean if people can be patriotic and that's seen as normal then why can't people do it with sexualities? I still haven't gotten used to it and I'm not going to pull that dumb "I have a gay friend" card because honestly I don't,I can't really relate to that.
Like, I get what the person who wrote it was going for, since the whole Louis bit was "haha kids these days are so lame haha", but it felt like it was going about things the wrong way, since their endgoal (presumably) was to say "hey, fuck you buddy, they're valid humans". I've heard queer people talk about how they resent allies who place so much emphasis on the superficial/sexual aspects of the movement and how they find it dehumanizing; which isn't to say everyone feels that way, but I can definitely see that point.
But like I said, I don't exactly have the clearest perspective, being a straight dude. What was I supposed to get out of it? (Legit asking, I know questions like that can come off as snide when it's just text).
I think the most pertinent point of that post is that if you're an openly queer person, simply existing is an act of bravery, and one you'll get constant shit for. That act of simply existing and being authentically yourself, however weird and bizarre that may be, is way edgier than any joke Louis CK has ever made. And much more of an act of individualism than most people are willing to give credit for.
The focus on sexuality and drugs is not the part of that rant that stuck out to me and made me feel the need to post it. It's the weak link in the argument.
