What are you, a N64 controller fan?
worse than any of them listed
I genuinely don't get the love for the gamecube controller.
every button on it feels like total ass, the d-pad is horrible, the build quality feels cheap and toy-like, I could go on and on hate that thing
Every button feeling like ass sounds great
DS4 is personally my favorite controller. I don't know how to explain it, but the quality of the material, button placement, and the shape & weight of the controller just feels right in my hands.
Something absolutely no one gives a shit about: WarmaHordes might be the saddest tabletop wargame I've ever seen, I haven't played it myself (and I don't really feel like doing so when I dislike the designs of 99% of all the models). But all the battlereports and sessions I've seen of it on youtube it's just one long line of minis across another long line of minis with 2 circles in the middle with absolutely no terrain. Then the 2 groups slowly move towards the 2 circles in the middle, and then bump into each other, resulting in endless dice rolls and no movement up until one groups caster dies or some shit idunno. What's the point of having miniatures or a board if there's absolutely no vertical movement? Might as well play chess at that point. So besides being "the best balanced wargame" what IS the appeal of WarmaHordes?
I think controllers suck 100%. I've tried gamecube, og xbox, xbox 360 and PS2 controllers and they all sucked. The fact that I even have some favorite games that were console exclusive says the quality of the game on its own considering how the controller would often make the game feel like Im controlling a wheelchair having a stroke and its a struggle to see past that
I know it's probably not unpopular here but why is it so hard to find environmentally minded folk who are pro nuclear? I went to a meeting of a environmental group in my city to listen to their thoughts, and I have a feeling that if I brought up nuclear power I would have been aggressively shouted down.
I dislike Warmahordes because of how little customization there is. All the units are expected to look a specific way and you are expected to run as many characters as possible.
you might just be bad
Controversial aside, A Dog's Purpose was a pretty bad chick flick from the trailers alone and I won't dare see the sequel unless some girl wanted to watch it with me. Which totally isn't happening, really.
Mushrooms are disgusting.
My controller hot take is that platformers are always better controlled by analogue stick, rather than by dpad
I hate arcade style fighting games and this includes SSB
My hypocritical hot take is that while the feel of a dpad matters a lot to me, the dpad should only be used for menu actions or "menu-like" actions, like switching weapons, quick chat, etc. Dpads take accidental inputs way more easily than analog sticks do. Also, it's definitely not an "analogue" stick. It's analog as opposed to digital.
personally I don't mind using controllers for non-shooters, games are usually better on controllers if they were designed with them in mind. that being said I honestly think most games that fit the above criteria still would be better as a whole if they just weren't designed with a controller in mind at all but rather with a KB+M from the ground up
I've already been ninjad but the Steam Controller is the only controller I've ever felt okay about playing a shooter with.
The big issue with an analog stick is simply the travel distance. With a d-pad you barely push a button and you're moving at full speed. With an analog stick you have a lot more travel to read the same speed though. When reaction times matter this is very significant and a lot of people struggle with accuracy due to it not being a strict up/down/left/right setup too.
The Famicom was my first game console, but I grew up with the dualshock since PS1 and no other gamepad matches it for me. I can adapt to any other controller like the Xbox, Gamecube and N64 ones, but I feel right at home with the dualshock, especially the DS4 currently. It has a very intuitive design, the analog sticks feel great, has a good amount of weight without being too light or heavy and the shape is comfortable and practical, especially when playing with a claw grip.
Nintendo should try to make a cellphone version of the Nintendo Switch. Shouldn't be too difficult since it is using an off-the-shelf Tegra chip, though i think how it could be done would probably end with a thicker profile but IMO, that's a small price to pay for a smaller screen, a reworking of the Joycon mount to ensure compatibility with already existing controllers and a SIM card slot.
my dad used to make fried morels and they tasted like and had the texture and mouth feel of a frenched fry so mushrooms are alright
honestly this is probably the case cause last time I used a controller I kept looking back at the controller like "wait which one is what" and I felt like a 90 year old. I still think a lot of controllers suck though especially cause a lot of them look or feel like cancerous scrotums so I can't even put my hands on the thing without feeling like I'm trying to wrestle a facehugger
I arcade style fighting games, which is why I love SSB
You already beat me down with this opinion, but then you had to go for the jugular by calling smash a fighting game
I think it's really ridiculous that the definition of 'fighting game' is so limited. How in the fuck is Super Smash Bros not one? I don't understand why it's so strict, only games that have that old, tired style of arcadey movement, locked camera, health bars usually accompanied by a "special" meter, best-of-3 matches, and similar approach to combos get the right to be called a fighting game. Save for being jumpier and having a different approach to damage, SSB is nowhere near different enough that it can't use the same definition. All this does is stifle experimentation in the genre and perpetuate the elitist image the fighting game community already has
Johnathan Franzen fucking sucks
It was mostly just a shitpost, but the biggest problem with calling smash a fighting game is that it's really the only game of its type out there. Every other fighting game more or less shares certain genre conventions that smash lacks. They're fundamentally different types of games - all that they share in common is that you fight someone in them. So as the odd one out, it can be left by the wayside when categorizing it as a fighting game. This fundamental difference really shows itself when you look at the communities for the two types of games. There is virtually zero serious overlap. Within the FGC, or Fighting Game Community, players often indulge in many different games within the genre, as they share the same fundamental concepts and mechanics. Smash is a totally different animal, and the enthusiasm + skill doesnt really transfer. So you don't see big FGC heads play much smash, and vice versa. Also, calling the games that people find timeless and beloved "old and tired" is a non-starter in these sorts of conversations.
Platform fighter is the word you're looking for.
In the case of Playstation controllers it's probably a matter of most people never even noticing that most of the buttons were pressure-sensitive to begin with since they have so little travel distance.
