Unpopular Opinions V. FP should go down more often

Great moderating as usual craptasket, very cool!
OIFY is cool and good dont @ me
Tell that to the guy who seems bent on removing everything that made this forum great only to leave broken shit and cesspools so that people get the fuck out of there faster.
If this has to be FP's swan song I'd rather spend it with actual adults than with scatophiliac edgelords.
Sure, but I'll rant about it in OIFY because getting angry/sassy about Garry or other admins is bannable across most of the site
I do hope that's not his actual strategy though, that would just be saddening
OIFY has always been offsite FYAD-lite that has built a steady community over time, some posters may treat it as proving grounds for trolls but for me it's a place for meaningless, impulsive and satiric posts. Personally it's a great way to let off steam when I just
"got to post".
I don't condone trolling in general forums and the toxic heap of shit should be kept where it belongs. That "cesspool" got history, and that's why it still exists.
I would like it if OIFY posters stopped posting gore entirely. Its fucking lame as shit and really is kind of creepy to see anywhere on the forums.
Like I get that it is intended to shock and shit, but theres like 8000 volumes of deviantart pornography thats good for that. Dont post IRL gore, why the fuck would you even have that.
OIFY should be removed, but every single subforum should be subject to the same rules as OIFY. Gary wants the forums to go, right? May as well do it in a way that is both fun and productive.
Well sorry to inform you of this but your belief doesn't line up with that of psychologists. And considering they're the trained experts on the subject I'm gonna go with what they say cause chances are any arguments you have against the way gender dysphoria is dealt with are arguments that have already been considered and debunked by psychologists.
I've tried to Google about these debunkings but I can't find anything. I'm still pretty clueless as to why people go the route of reassignment instead of therapy.
Is there a lack of research in the matter? Has everything else literally been tried? Why didn't it work?
Right now, to me, gender dysphoria reads a lot like body integrity dysphoria.
Psychologists have tried other methods. It invariably ends in the suicide of the person they're treating because it doesn't address the actual issue. The issue at hand is that it's more like a birth defect than a mental illness. The physical structure of the part of the brain associated with gender identity is far more similar to that of the individual's identified gender than that of their birth sex. So as far as their brain is concerned they are that gender. The only realistic solution is to transition because we can't modify the brain's structure to rectify the issue.

This is actually a good case to read up on. The psychologist who did this was actually intending to prove that transgender people could be treated in the manner you suggest but ended up basically creating a sort of faux-transgender man out of David Reimer. (Faux-transgender since Reimer was physically male despite his destroyed genitalia.)
Oh God that guy. I remember watching a documentary about that person. What a fucked story.
Anyways I get what you're saying now. I always figured the right kind of pill popping would solve the problem.
Yeah gender dysphoria/transgenderism is way too complex to just make some kind of drug or give them some sort of therapy at the moment.
Letting them transition is the best kind of treatment we got at the moment even if there is still a lot of debate.
Hopefully in the future there is some kind of magic drug that removes the need to transition and gets rid of the persons dysphoria but who knows how long that would be.
The tl;dr of anything involving the brain is that it's super complicated and there's never a simple one-size-fits all answer.
tbh you can apply this rule to pretty much anything that wasn't designed - there's always some depth and complexity if something wasn't specifically made to not have weird depth - it's just that the brain is super special funky in that regard due to its complexity.
I doubt many would go for a drug that alters your mind to such a degree. Something like that is bound to cause changes to your personality as a whole. Which is a massive ethical dilemma on it's own.
I think a greater ability to alter the body safety and to a greater degree are a more acceptable future for trans people.
I’ve said this before, but sexual orientation is not genetic, and twin studies prove this. I hate that this has become something that you have to believe if you also believe it’s not a choice, even though the former hasn’t been proven.
These aren’t mutually exclusive ideas, as kinks are also neither strictly genetic or a choice; liking pizza isn’t genetic or a choice either.
This is what my beliefs come down to: sexual orientation isn’t much different from the rest of our desires; neither strictly genetic or a choice. We like stuff—I swing both ways in orientation as well as the color of my coffee, why do we need to overanalyze the difference?
People like to think that if it’s not genetic it must be a choice, and that’s the only reason research tries to prove orientation is genetic. But this only leaves room for people to shame sexual kinks as a choice, and that’s bullshit.
I've literally never had anyone tell me that sexuality not being a choice should imply that it's also genetic, or espouse that belief in any way.
Because nobody asks. Nobody challanges the idea that it’s genetic in the first place, save for a few results on Google here and there.
Facepunch needs to re-implement ban words.
Some examples? (I've only been on Facepunch for 3 years so I have no idea what those ban words).
Back when Facepunch was still new and dinosaurs walked the Earth there was a list of words and phrases which, if posted, would result in a temporary ban.
Examples include "Stick it in her" "Get to the bunker" and the word "Nigger". There were issues with the system.
For example if someone wrote the word "snigger" (a permutation of snicker, to laugh) the system would read the word and see "snigger", causing a ban.
Also if you posted something like "Tell her to stick it in her bag for later." The system would see "Tell her to stick it in her bag for later", also resulting in a ban.
Finally there was a 'smartness' system which awarded points for posts but deducted points for misspellings. If you lost too many points in one post you would be banned automatically, there were a small number of spelling mistakes in the system, such as "cleaver" being seen as wrong but "kleaver" being seen as correct.
