This announcement doesn't hit me personally, 'cause I've never bothered with the series, but, having a friend who is a huge fan, I can understand why many will hate this.
It's just like the whole Mass Effect: Andromeda debacle: the developers released a very contested sequel a while ago and you genuinely hope the next game in line will be what it takes to push the series you love on the chart once more.
Instead, you recive a piece of dog shit
The sad part, the game will still be so silly lucrative for Blizzard. It will outweigh the current outrage.
I don't understand the logic behind calling someone 'entitled' when you give they didn't ask for or want. I don't think it's difficult to understand that Blizzard's traditional markets aren't interested in mobile games, and were really looking forward to hearing some kind of news about their favorite franchises. To then make them pay quite a pricey amount (just to watch the stream!) just to attend their yearly conference and then use the last timeslot on the main stage (traditionally used for the largest announcements) to announce a game that wouldn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out no-one attending the convention probably wanted doesn't seem like a very smart idea.
I'm not very interested in Blizzard titles, honestly. I've never played WoW, or Diablo, and only played Overwatch for a couple of months. I even enjoy mobile games, I play gacha games on a daily basis, and those are the definition of predatory. But even I understand the rage here. You're essentially shitting on the core audience for whom your games were a key part of their formative years, who hold a deep respect for those titles. They wait patiently for news about their games and continue to support you, and you announce a game not marketed to them, which should be easy to know they would dislike, and then expect them to eat it up. It's just rude.
It would be like if Valve released a Hearthstone clone.
And of course there's that one guy who has to make this about toxic masculinity and a female audience being attacked when it's literally about
fans being outraged over a stupid mobile game that most people didn't even want. These people live in their own little bubble where they comment on each other's post about how right they are and how wrong
everyone else is. The fact that most of these are journalists and devs make this even more saddening. I seriously miss TB who actually stood for consumerism and called people out on their bullshit.
At least we have Path of Exile.
Literally all the Blizzard games that I'm interested these days are the free ones they offer on their website, like Blackthorne and Rock 'n Roll Racer.
