Did it by chance switch your controller to IDE mode instead of AHCI? In the past I've had that happen on an older board and Windows was pissy until I caught it and changed it back.

It happens! I mean I've been doing stuff with PC hardware since I was a kid, and even now I'll have those moments. Certain problems are such an easy fix, and it's like "wow how'd I miss that?"
