Great video but what the hell was that sketch with the gun? I seriously didn't catch what that was all about
I just want to mention a weird contrast here on how Ethan treats his friends and with Leafy and Keemstar having a recent interview roughly a few weeks ago, and both of them have been pretty mature and genuine as friends. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpdK79WVd_M Skip to 19 minutes in for just their sendoff to each other, but tl;dw Leafy is now focused on stocks, he's still a bit of a nasally asshole but have matured for sure, and Leafy congratulates Keem on surpassing his channel now, and Keem considers Leafy genuinely as a friend.
Maybe he's one of those comedians who offend, ridicule and shame thinking this is what humor is. If that's the case, Ethan just stopped putting effort and now there's nothing but his actual treatment of people
I mean, its showed that he wrote his part of the podcast interviews before hand so
Eh, I dunno. He's been re-calibrating for like two years now, they barely put out anymore content that isn't the podcast or Teddy fresh - I'm still watching this video but I gave up on Ethan getting on the wagon a long time ago
That's what makes people like Ethan scary. They can be really convincing. Jon was a really good friend, someone he bonded with before he was famous, yet he completely humiliated him for some views and enjoyed it. He's a pure narcissist with the charm to hide it.
I swear I've heard it before, but does anyone know the glockenspiel music just near the very end at 1 hr, 33 min and 52 secs in?
Jk
Ethan was only good during the times of Organ God for example.
The podcast is definitely terrible and I unsubscribed from it a while ago, as Ethan's content really fails when he attempts any sort of serious point, especially if it's political. I feel like he's constantly making value judgements on what his audience wants before he makes statements, as I don't see how somebody can be this duplicitous and hypocritical this frequently by accident. His main channel used to be quite funny indeed, but it's really not at all anymore. In fact, I don't even know the last time Ethan put out any videos on there. Hila is pretty boring too. She seems to just agree with Ethan 99% of the time and people around Ethan on the podcast just seem to be yes-men/women. Bleh.
Just watched the podcast episode with Tom and Christina, and it definitely seems like something is off about Ethan but it was definitely better than past ones. Tom and Christina's chemistry definitely outshined the general dreariness that Ethan brings, and it's nice to see that he's made friends with them. I've been a fan of YMH for a while so it's cool that they brought their sense of humor and made everything lighthearted. It'll definitely be interesting to see where things go when the baby is born.
People act differently depending on whether they're in an open social context or in a comfortable space where they feel like they're in control, that's normal. The problem is that for people like Ethan this normal aspect of social interaction is exacerbated and it ends up creating situations like these.
I wouldn't be surprised if so many negative aspects of the podcast are products of him being a massive ball of anxiety during them. This might be me playing devil's advocate here, but seeing the fact that he operates off of a fairly rigid script during the podcasts could go a long way in explaining the uncomfortable Jontron interview. I get more of an impression that he kept drilling away with these uncomfortable questions, not predominantly out of malice or a thirst for views, but because he had his pre-written list of questions, and didn't know how to dynamically deviate from them to salvage the conversation. I think a lot of the questionable shit that goes down in these podcasts screams "performance anxiety" and I don't think that excuses the problems, but it might help to narrow them down.
Ethan's problem with the podcast seems to mostly be that it contradicts his personality and temperament. Seeing as his podcast is basically one big google doc with everything written down and zero room for variation or improvisation, I feel like he needs to have some pretty heavy control over his own content. Live podcast isn't exactly a format where you're given a whole lot of room for fuckups seeing as you can't really edit or alter anything post-production and everything has to be good on the spot. This doesn't work for Ethan and it only helps to emphasize how big of a cunt he can be when presented with a platform like this one where he doesn't have an editing software to save him from looking like a dipshit.
I wouldn't mention it if I didn't see a bunch of other people had the exact same experience, but I didn't enjoy his first 3-4 videos posted on FP There was one that turned the tide, and in retrospect idk if it was any funnier, or if Ethan just picked a really good target and it made him relatable in comparison A real basic rule of comedy I'm sure everyone's heard is, you punch up, you don't punch down. Like every artistic "rule", it's more of a suggestion. But it tends to be funnier when the person who trips and falls on his ass is the rich, corrupt millionaire, than the poor old man. It gets real unfunny when you explain it. But basically, to punch up is to lower the status of someone who has power, especially if it's undeserved, which is why Content Cop works so well. Ethan's been punching down for years now
Well if there's a silver lining, JonTron seems to regret saying (and hopefully thinking) those things he said.
Imagine making a 1hr 30m video about somebody on YouTube
That somebody is a public figure and entertainer, he makes real money, his videos have real views. He has a cultural impact whether you like it or not. Some people feel that's worth talking about and making entertaining videos over. What's so wrong with that? Why even reply?
why reply
normally I'd be like yeah but this actually a 10/10 video no regrets
I don't know why you, of all people, are trying to paint something as pathetic.
I can't tell if this is trying to bait people into modsass or what
Nice bait there. Got something to contribute to the thread, or are you just passing by?

Go back to practicing your bowling, Hezzy
I watched approximately 20 minutes of it, but I find it hard to understand why somebody would put so much effort into making a video so long. Most content cop videos are about 40 minutes long, he seemed to be rambling on and on
I think calling it 10/10 is a little far. If it hadn't had the silly comedy bits littered all over the place and didn't sometimes make sweeping generalisations like saying people who smoke cannot have any moral authority, I'd probably say yes, but I couldn't watch more than 20 minutes of it, mainly due to the cringy comedy. Still, it's a fairly good video, sure.
This could've been a lot shorter but i still enjoyed it, i used to watch h3h3 but stopped for some reason and this video shows me why i stopped watching. I just wish Ethan would stop focusing on the podcast and try to make proper videos again.
I turned it off after the gun buying skit, I actually enjoyed the parts where he was breaking down videos etc but I'm not sure I could watch an hour and a half of it
The podcast is really baaaad. I remember a clip where Ethan said something totally ridiculous (I wish I could remember what it was), and even Hila seemed taken aback by it, but he basically pushed her and his co-host until they reluctantly agreed. I think Ethan said he makes fewer comedy videos on the main channel now because he's depressed, but I'd honestly prefer it if he just stopped making anything rather than put out half-arsed content.
